Sad deal....

Canyon Country resident Brittany Stark died Sunday in a nighttime boating accident on the Colorado River.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff?s Department, deputies responded to the part of the river near Parker Strip, south of Emerald Cove Resort at 10:26 p.m. where the boat and victims were found.

KHTS News Brought To You By:

Gregory Kettelkamp was operating a Ski Centurion boat southbound on the river, traveling at approximately 25-35 miles per hour. In addition to Kettlekamp, there were eight other passengers onboard the vessel, including the 21-year old Stark.

For an unknown reason, Kettelkamp struck the shoreline, causing the vessel to stop abruptly and ejecting several passengers from the boat. Stark received serious injuries during the collision and she was transported to La Paz Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Two other passengers receive major injuries and were flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. The remaining passengers were treated and released at La Paz Regional Medical Center.

Investigating officer Sgt. Tim Smith told Today?s News-Herald (havasunews.com) that the group was not taking precautionary measures.

?I don?t think any of the people on board last night were wearing life jackets. They were operating in the dark, with no moon.?

The accident is under investigation by deputies from the Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision. Anyone in the area who witnessed the crash and have information is asked to call Deputy Dave Smith at the Needles Police Department at (760) 326-9200.

The reason Parker is great is it sorts out the boneheads pretty quick. They show up on the big weekends once and mess up there boats, get there ass kicked at the bar, get banged a $600 for an aluminum prop at the local highway robbers joint, $250 for a battery (city slicker price) chances are good there chick will runoff with a local tailhunter and on and on. They dont come back:D

Like. :thumbsup :D

What sucks about this accident though is a young girl lost her life. My heart goes out to the family. Cant even imagine getting that call. :(

Note the three roll eyes faces after the comment.

No, I don't want street lights. It was a facetious comment.

OC, i know, but if worse comes to worse ther just going to stop boating at night period if people keep crashing seriously getting injured or dying.

Her funeral is this Saturday.

I actually think she spells it Brittney.

On the night of June 26 my family and I were at Roadrunner for dinner. At about 10:00 P.M. we got in the boat and pushed away from the dock. With our designated driver at the controls we were about to accelerate when a wakeboard boat flew past our bow at high speed, spraying my kids and grandkids riding in the open bow of our boat. Our passengers were hit by the spray from the passing boat. The pilot in my boat had his hand on the throttle and at the last second jerked it into reverse. We came within a couple of seconds of having our family destroyed by a careless and possibly drunk boater. I say we need enforcement at night to prevent more tragedies caused by reckless behavior like we saw on the 26th. I'll bet it was the same boat, seems to fit the description.

thats a crazy first post...

It is always tragic to read and hear about accidents in our boating community. And even more so when we have friends and family that are involved.

I am thankful that you and your family were unharmed and dont have to grieve the loss of what the Stark family is dealing with right now.

I can not agree with you that this was indeed an act of recklessness. Nor do I think this thread or even this site would be the proper place to point blame or make accusations based on "seems to fit the discription".

An accident that has left friends and families mourning the loss of Brittany. My hopes are she will be remembered, loved and never forgotten.

Thoughts and prayers...

actually visited the cross and memorial sight from the boat yesterday - also there were two LEO boats and a Helo on the shore at the sight yesterday at about 5:30 pm -- don't know the reason
