For an unknown reason, Kettelkamp struck the shoreline, causing the vessel to stop abruptly and ejecting several passengers from the boat. Stark received serious injuries during the collision and she was transported to La Paz Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Two other passengers receive major injuries and were flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. The remaining passengers were treated and released at La Paz Regional Medical Center.
Investigating officer Sgt. Tim Smith told Today?s News-Herald (havasunews.com) that the group was not taking precautionary measures.
?I don?t think any of the people on board last night were wearing life jackets. They were operating in the dark, with no moon.?
The accident is under investigation by deputies from the Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision. Anyone in the area who witnessed the crash and have information is asked to call Deputy Dave Smith at the Needles Police Department at (760) 326-9200.
