If on 9/11/2001 someone told you: I predict we will spend 2 trillion dollars fighting the terrorist in Afghanistan. After 20 years of battle, Afghanistan will fall to the Taliban as the USA exits in a bloody disgraceful retreat. you would have said….
Bullshit

Nope

The negotiated agreement with the Taliban during the prior administration called for a complete withdrawal by US forces other than the standard quantities for the US embassy by April of 2021.

"The provisions of the deal include the withdrawal of all American and NATO troops from Afghanistan, a Taliban pledge to prevent al-Qaeda from operating in areas under Taliban control, and talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government. The United States agreed to an initial reduction of its force level from 13,000 to 8,600 by July 2020, followed by a full withdrawal within 14 months if the Taliban keeps its commitments. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg pledged to bring down NATO’s numbers to about 12,000 from roughly 16,000 troops. The United States also committed to closing five military bases within 135 days, and expressed its intent to end economic sanctions on the Taliban by August 27, 2020"

Quite frankly, once the US negotiated a deal with the Taliban that excluded the Afghan government and the Afghan Security Forces in the agreement but only required further talks, the fate of Afghanistan was sealed.

Biden and his administration could have certainly torn up this agreement (after all they extended the date to September from April), upped US troop levels and financial committment to support a continuing war in Afghanistan holding back the Taliban while propping up the Afghan government for a few more years. But sooner or later, there would have been a withdrawal, the Taliban would have taken over, and this would have happened.

Absent committing to stay indefinitely, there was no easy exit.

Absolutely nowhere in the given troop withdrawl agreement was it stated:
"We will give you all the tools needed to fight a modern war and kill our people"

Maybe it's just in the fine print and I missed it...

No, “this would have happened” regardless is utter bullshit.

No one is arguing that we should get out.
No one is saying the Taliban or some other force would overrun the country eventually.

It’s HOW these clowns did it that’s shameful.

makes you wonder why they (Taliban) didn't make their move earlier... say January, when we only had about 2500 troops there?

also, old man Joe couldn't have figured this shit out between 2008-2016 when he was VP? Instead waits 4 more years, then blames Trump.

Im watching. God he is lost and embarrassing.

Once this administration leaves its comfort zone of climate change and diversity they are out of dry powder.

They need to just stick to what they do best by helping African Americans overcome slavery and stopping cows from farting

Ok, so lets say this is true, or at least some version of it is true (which I mean, it's pretty common knowledge Trump wanted to pull out of Afganastan, so did every pres since W). Trump was VERY vocal about pulling out of Afganastan. He saw it as a HUGE drain of resources. He was also told by his military advisors to pump his brakes, which he did.

But I digress....Lets say the above you printed is exact truth. Simple fact is, Teliban has in fact violated this agreement. The moment they started over throwing the local Afgan Govt. and evidence of ISIS coming back it's GAME FUCKING OVER.

If I were president, I would've used that moment to turn this into a PR win. Biden could've sent troops in to CRUSH the taliban as we've been doing for 20 years, stated the agreement is null and void because they have violated the terms of said agreement and then done whatever the fuck he pleases - i.e. stay there as we have or (better plan) publicize we're pulling out in a few months and then just man a base and keep people in the area. Easy peasy and you look a hero for "fixing Trumps fuck up", crushing the taliban AND essentially withdrawing from Afghanistan (that's how it'd be spun from the lefts PR machine (aka CNN MSNBC)

Frankly, I find blaming Trump for this laughable (again even if everything you copied was true). and the canned answer "this was inevitable" is so fuckin pathetic. Super weak excuse for seriously FUCKIN THE POOCH! Your boy Biden has put the nail in his coffin on this one.

inflation, economy, oil, domestic policy, foreign policy, handling of covid, flood of illegal aliens, blowing out the budget and this? Your boy has fucked up everything he's touched.

I'll quote the great Kayleigh McEnany who recently stated, "How many crisis' occurred under Trump?"

My question is why was there so much fire power, weapons and ammo when they were not even allowed to carry a gun over there?? Oblamo had Bengazi, JOe and the Hoe have reallyfuckedupistan. What a disaster. They should be hung from the Lincoln memorial. They couldn't even load up the 4 c-130's they left with gear and flown them out. Absolute embarrassment to the men and women who have served.

He's not my boy as I didn't vote for him and don't give to D candidates. I'm a Reagan Republican, aka RINO.

But to your point above. Yep, this whole thing was a cluster fuck from day one. Nation building never works. And pulling out gets people killed, just like our Kurdish allies were killed when we pulled our support for them in Syria.

Yep, Biden could have put 130,000 troops back in and worked to take back all the territory the Taliban had acquired since the pull down of troops under Obama. Would have cost thousands of lives and billions of dollars but certainly a path.

But I just don't agree that we could have just "crushed" the Taliban "as we've been doing for 20 years" because if we had "crushed" them, they wouldn't have taken back the rest of the country in a month. We never crushed them, just as Russia never crushed any one there.

This is Biden's saigon for sure. And like most things the government does it was a cluster fuck. But maybe you are right and he should have just kept sacrificing American blood and treasure to look better? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

He didn't need to take back the territory. He could have just had enough troops there to ensure a safe withdraw. That is it.

It is very simple.. We know where all the arms are we are leaving you. If you cross us, we will blow the shit up, and you get nothing. If you want to make a war out of it, we will make it a war.

On this we agree - Nation building in the middle east is like helping a drunk that does not want your help. Just stay away and let them destroy themselves.

I think we could've stopped the advancements they've made since announcing the pull out and gone in pretty decisively and stopped the progress and pushed them back with out sending hundreds of thousands of troops and with out losing many lives. Then set up and manned a nice base to keep those goat fuckers in check as we have for the past 20 years.

But then again, maybe you're right. I mean, the leadership from the top down including the leadership of our military (at least the ones that are shown and speak publicly) is a fuckin embarrassment and I don't think those dumb sumbitches could close an umbrella (to quote Sheriff Justice).🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I will say this....Mark my words. We will have a HUGE uptick in terrorist attacks in America and across the globe because we will no longer be there.

Well per 530’s usual conservative thought process -

The foreign terrorists are free to create terror across the globe. As a small government Reagan conservative I call on other true conservatives to do nothing to deprive them of their freedoms to inflict harm and terror. If more Americans die because of global terrorism, well it is just social Darwinism. 🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏾

Only a socialist Trumpkin would want a government to protect its people from terrorism abroad.

The withdrawal was also conditional. And I'd bet the tallyban didn't fulfill the conditions

You are absolutely correct.

The "Peace" agreement was signed on Feb 29, 2020 and by March 4th, 2020 the Taliban were attacking US forces in violation of the agreement and we were responding with airstrikes.

On May 19, 2020 the IG for the DOD stated the U.S. cut troop levels in Afghanistan by more than 4,000, even though “the Taliban escalated violence further after signing the agreement.”

On August 18, 2020 the IG for the DOD stated "The Taliban did not appear to uphold its commitment to distance itself from terrorist organizations in Afghanistan. UN and U.S. officials reported that the Taliban continued to support al-Qaeda, and conducted joint attacks with al-Qaeda members against Afghan National Defense and Security Forces."

The agreement was violated within 4 days in early 2020, yet the US with full knowledge of these repeated violations closed all 5 forward air bases, drew down our troops from over 13,000 to 2,500, and released over 5,000 Taliban and Isis-k prisoners all by January 15, 2021. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Biden had a choice, ramp the troop levels back up in order to support the Afghan Security Forces or finish the pull out. The 2,500 clearly could not get it done.

And he chose to GTFO as opposed to ramping it back up.

Let’s make-up how we think Trump would have handled this, so we can blame him…LMAO

We don’t need to make it up.

We have facts.

While the Taliban violated his negotiated agreement in under a week, he closed forward operating and air bases, reduced troops by almost 7 fold, allowed the Taliban to grain ground as they wished and released from prison over 5,000 terrorists.

Interesting, I didn't realize Trump was still commander in chief of our military.

The facts are Biden has been president for 7 months. If he didn't like what was going on he could have brought in more troops months ago, he could have changed terms, punted or ripped up the deal entirely. They punted the date and continued the draw down, and ignored the requests of people on the ground for MONTHS. This was completely predictable, and completely avoidable.

The facts are Biden, his sec dev, his secretary of state, and his spokeshole all assured us this would not happen just 5 weeks ago.

but the media loved Trump so much, they never reported on the bad deal / chaos and collapse of Afghanistan the entire time.

Facts are he was for four years while delivering billions of arms that ended up in the hands of terrorists and cutting a deal with terrorists while abandoning our allies.

And then Biden fucked it up too.

I’ll admit they both are completely incompetent.

If that is your definition of incompetence, every president from the last 60 years is incompetent.

The problem with your theory is that when Trump left, none of the arms were in the hands of terrorists. That is a 100% Biden blunder. He’s had 6 months to correct the problem if there was one, and did nothing. Perhaps he should of taken care of this on day one instead of signing all those prepared EOs he had no idea about.

We were told “America’s Back”. What he meant was we were back to being walked on by terrorists and oppressive regimes.

No, I’m quite sure they will end up pretty even by the end of their single terms.

Fortunately and hopefully they will both only be one term Presidents.
