Looking at getting into a big V to take to the Delta, Shasta, Tahoe, Havasu, and eventually a trip or two to Powell. Have my eyes on a 28 Eliminator Eagle, possibly looking at it this weekend but just saw a 27 Formula SR1 pop up that is a really good deal. Both are in the same area and trying to schedule to look at both the same day.

Budget is $40-50K. But also looking for deals.

After dragging the Eliminator Ski Comp to Havasu and the rough water, the big boat bug bit me and I want something that I can take everywhere.

They repowered it with 400's?
What's the top speed with 400s I think it was low to mid 90s with the 300s.
Do you know what numbers it put up with the 400's ?

Yes it was repowered and now is now Merc DTS. Some like that, some don’t.

With the 400R’s it’s still mid-high 90’s
Never broke the 100 mark. Keeping the boat setup as a solid all around use boat was the main goal, 100+ was a goal but didn’t get to it. I think it’s possible but will require more setup testing and the right conditions.

Extra 400ish pounds hanging off the back there changes things a bit I'm sure over the 300's

How big may also depend on the truck that you have too. I'd imagine a fully loaded 300T with fuel and general crap that ends up in the boat will be pushing 10k lbs.

There's a few Lavey 26s for sale in that budget ish too currently, they are a big 26.

I have an F-350 diesel, my tow and hunting rig. I use the F-150 for my daily and to tow the Eliminator comp ski to the lake.

I just saw a 47’ triple engine fountain for 150k.

That would do the trick. Wallet my not appreciate that maintenance bill.

29' fountain you should be able to find in your budget. Also some nice baja's out there.

I was gonna say a 29 Baja would be well in the price range and a 33 Baja outlaw would be just a bit over for a decent one. A LOT of bang for the buck with Baja. Lots of room, great cabin, handles rough water well, predictable. Not much to not like except they were production boats so get a survey. Check stringers and transom for moisture.

I’d Rock a 33 outlaw all day.

There are two 29 Warlocks on FB Market place. Both were built as raceboats and one has been beautifully redone for $50k. You will not hurt either because of how the race boats were built and they do everything great, go straight without chine walking and turn like they’re on rails. They are great big water boats as are the 27 and 29 Laveycraft but they require a little more skill to get the most out of them. The Lavey build quality is also a step above.

I have a 03 Laveycraft 29 Nu Era with a newer Teague 825 that I plan to put up for sale soon. It's probably double your budget but is super clean, well taken care and moves really well in big water.

Keep going back and forth between closed and open bow, leaning towards closed bow for the moment.

There is a 27' advantage victory in Vegas that I've been in contact with the owner, it is on the short list, has a whippled 496.

Eliminator on the short list has a stock 496HO, 27' Formula has an aftermarket low hour big block motor but the price just dropped quite a bit.

What ever boat you decide on buying, find one with true 24 degree deadrise. My boat [ Mirage 257 with fiberglass inner liner ] has 24 degree, solid [ not foam or balsa ] core layup, did a lot of poker runs in the Ocean and lakes with. You dont need much bigger than a 26 footer, unless planning running in the big blue. My buddy;s 29 Outlaw, running along with me during poker run, ripped stringers out, landing in 3-4 footers. He ended up with a 35 Fountan 600 SC. The Fountain also developed some stress cracks at the cabin doorway area. Size matters for running in the rough, but close inspection needed when shopping around.;) regardless of its age.

1990 24 foot with 25.7 OA length with bullt in swimgrid. 34 yr old, rock solid hull.

Not every 2750 will do it but yes it is possible.
I know from first hand experience; 75mph in a mid cabin 2750 496 HO Merc bravo1 lab 28, in the ocean.
Those numbers are crazy. I spent all last weekend on my buddies 2750 w/ 496 ho bravo 1 24p. Best we saw with 4 people on board was 61-62mph. Somewhere 51-5200 rpms. He has owned the boat for almost 10 years now and says it has always been a low 60’s boat.
@lavey jr In your opinion is that about right for a open bow in the middle of summer on havasu or should he be looking for a problem.
