Those numbers are crazy. I spent all last weekend on my buddies 2750 w/ 496 ho bravo 1 24p. Best we saw with 4 people on board was 61-62mph. Somewhere 51-5200 rpms. He has owned the boat for almost 10 years now and says it has always been a low 60’s boat.
@lavey jr In your opinion is that about right for an open bow in the middle of summer on havasu or should he be looking for a problem.
Don’t forget the salt factor. Ocean floats a hull better than fresh water. And ocean is certainly much cooler than havasu usually, though humidity can rob some power.

For a 496HO with a 24P prop, that sounds about right. I believe the rev limiter is 5150 on those. If he's hitting that rev limiter pretty easy, he could try a 26P prop or maaaaybe a 28P and he will pick up a few MPH. Won't be as quick out of the hole though.

I think it's 5200 or so. Doubt it would spin a 26 to the limit. I tried a new 26 on my 496HO and couldn't hit rev limit. I can spin a labbed 26 with low fuel and 1 passenger and after a foot ball field length hit 73 mph. But I usually run a 24 and low 60s with passengers and fuel sounds right. That's on a twin step 26' Cobra.

Do you know why they said avoid this Hallet?
Did you scroll through the pics? I have looked at this boat many times as it sat out on the docks, as well as when it sat out at one of our local marine shops for months. It is in rough shape.

Powered by twin 468 big block Chevs, one of which was recently rebuilt by my engine builder. Made over 550hp on the dyno. Have videos of both engines running -Electric hydraulic ram to lift engine hatch -Mercruiser Bravo One XR drives -Multiple Mercury Racing stainless props can be included -Nice clean interior -McCloud Bolster seats -Galley and head. The center on the cuddy had over 6 feet of head room which is unheard of in this style of boat. AC Heat hot cold water TV two stereos -Black gel coat looks stunning up close. Must be seen to appreciate At 38 feet long with a 9'3" beam means this boat has ample room to host you and your friends. It is also quite a weighty boat so it handles rougher seas with ease when the smaller boats get tossed around. Boat is solid and turns heads where ever it goes. Currently sitting on an included aluminum triple axel trailer in South Burnaby

Looks like the same one I posted above from the Seattle area, great price on a wave crusher if the structure and engine / drives are sound.

Formula 336 SR1 with twin 502’s. As of Friday we were waiting for his response for more pics and to possibly go look at it and lake test.
Those are great rough water boats. One thing you must really pay attention is, checking the transom. 1990's Formulas can have water intrusion around the gimbal housing if not checked periodically. The cutouts are sometimes just painted instead of fiberglassed. Moisture meter should detect defect in the area.
My favourite old Formula was the 302 back in the 80's. This one wouldn't break the bank. https://ca.boats.com/power-boats/1984-formula-302-sr1-7050242/
