Yea the enclosed trailer makes my life so much easier, hated having to load the flat bed trailer day of because I couldn't leave it loaded out front of my house overnight.
Thats where I’m at. Don’t want to load up the trailer till the night before. I need an upgrade

Happy Campers, purchased at Spanky’s RV in Parker, always worked well for us. Keep water in the bowl. Seals dry out quick in this dry desert climate. Big holding tank dump is better than a number of small ones. In on our discharge line I included a clear plastic section, which enabled you to see when the holding tank was clean and discharging clear water. The jets on the holding tank are a big help.

Go around looking for Christmas trees and take as many as you can out, the kids will love to watch them burn!
That is what I am doing next weekend. Drag the small flatbed around and picked up trees on curb. I have an old metal stand we use to fire them off and keep them from falling.

Friendly reminder to move any camping chairs or canopies free standing or on Rv that are down wind before lighting Christmas trees. Well unless you want mini skylights in your canopies 😁

I used to use Happy Camper. Worked great, but CA blocked shipments. Went to a product called Unique in the new RV and it seems to be working well.
If CA blocked Happy Camper that stuff MUST be even better than I thought it was!

We mounted a TV in one of our large storage compartments which had an exterior door. Spent many nights, sitting outside, enjoying that. Summer and winter. Our 40’ 5th wheel ended up with 3 TVs. We used all of them.

Bought some tire irons and more tubes, loading the spare tires. I hope I don’t need any of it but I’m thinking for a longer trip in the desert better safe than sorry?

You’re doing great. Hitting all the right bases. Truthfully, I’m envious. Wish I could turn back the clock and do it all over again. Enjoy! Heated camp chairs may be a bit much. NO, they ARE a bit much. Just don’t let your wife and kids get used to them. That’s what a nice camp fire is for. Photos of your first trip, please. Randsburg is not exactly a Garden Spot and it can get crowded. Red Mountain, not far from Randsburg, is my wife’s least favorite place in the world. And we’d only just pass through there on our way to the Sierras. Good news, in an RV she could go back to bed and not worry about it.

We are leaving Sunday at noon. Tomorrow is my last day to run around and get any last minute things taken care of. In excited and a little nervous but I feel like I’ve done everything I can to prepare so hoping for a little luck

Luck doesn’t hurt. But, proper preparation, execution and expectation works really well. Relax and enjoy. Might something screwup? Probably. And you’ll take care of it. It’s all a part of RV life. Stay positive. Particularly for the kids.

End of the day, sitting around your camp fire, relaxing with your family and friends, after any possible drama and trauma of the day, are special times you’ll remember for many years.

Looks like you’re on the right track @BHC Vic enjoy your trip! At times it’s a shit ton of work and you want to throw in the towel but then you get out in the motorhome and have moments like this. Can’t complain one bit.

Sorry I missed this I've always used the below. I think they stopped selling the formaldehyde stuff at spakys a few years back, they weren't allowed to anymore if I recall correctly. X2 on the clear elbow for dumping at the trailer side, get the one with the spray attachment just incase you have get a clog you can shoot water backwards (depending on how your black water is discharged)
This stuff is awesome but getting harder to find in California and the campgrounds don’t like the formaldehyde. That’s when you know it’s the good shit lol

My heater runs all night in the upper deserts. At Glamis, it hardly ever comes on.

Concerns: If you're running off the batteries only, and they are 12's, they will be depleted in the morning. 6v batteries will be fine.

Trailer bearings and tires?

Job one. Don't even go anywhere without repacking those bearings! Find a shop to do it if you don't have the time. CHEAP insurance. Get er done. Tires should be less than 5 years old.

Black tank?

Use the enzyme stuff. Unless you enjoy the smell of an outhouse, then use the blue stuff. (Fuck that)

Firewood? Oak. Pine will be gone in 5min!!!! Put the coals Under your chair/butt. You're welcome.

if you encounter any idiots who feel throwing gasoline on old Xmas trees at a campfire is a good way to go . . . .Get the hell away from them, especially your kids. Keep an eye on your RV awning around any campfire. Blowing embers aren’t too good for them or your MH.

Red Mountain last year. Yeah, it sucks here. But it is pretty dang cold on New Years.

Expect, your first night camping and sleeping in your new MH, to not get a bunch of sleep. So, sleep well tonight. Good news, night 2 in your MH, you’ll get an amazing full night‘s sleep. Maybe, even wake up to the smell of frying bacon? I did say maybe. Enjoy.

Vic your doing well for prep on your first outing in the new to you rig. Things will most likel go wrong but hope nothing that you can't deal with. Remind everyone there are no such things as long showers, leaving the water running in the sink, fridge door left open, ect.
I always dump my tanks ASAP and put about a cup of borax powder and fresh water in each holding tank for the drive home. That sloshing around in the tanks with the borax in there on the drive home really cleans things up.
Have fun and post pics for us less fortunate ones.

Ok so far we are having a blast. We took off around 9:45 this morning after a little hiccup with filling the water tank. Hopefully I didn’t mess up too bad but I suppose time will tell. The drive out couldn’t have been any better. No fights, no arguments, and even with some winds the drive was super smooth. I should have got better pics but I didn’t really think about it when we left and when we got here I was unloaded quick. Setting up the rv was a nice. Leveled it, pooped the slides and I was done in like 5 minutes. I’ll do better with the pics tomorrow but it’s late and I’m tired. Got a little riding in today, and the boys rode a ton. I ate it messing around so a little banged up but I’ll be ready for tomorrow. Small world there’s another rdp member in our group so that’s pretty cool.

Good morning!! Licking my wounds and getting ready to start breakfast. I normally wear knee/shin guards when I’m in the desert but we got here, and I started getting all the bikes going, kids geared up, and got excited and jumped on my bike. Rode it around and one of my buddies kids wanted to ride my wife’s 80. I decided to give it a quick lap around the little track out here and washed the front in the corner. 😂😂 lesson learned, Gear the rest of the week.

Thanks for the report and photos. Enjoy. What kind of dog is the large black dog sitting near the campfire? Looks bigger than a pit.

Our 5th wheel was a Bighorn by Heartland. Much of your interior looks very similar.

Most the boys are out riding but a couple are hanging in our coach playing monopoly. I love it View attachment 1464747
We’ve got more games in the overhead cupboard like the one behind the kids than anything! 3/4 full!

Perfect for when the weather isn’t the best!

We book rainy days at the beach and just play games until there’s a break in the rain and then go walk or ride bikes around until the rain starts again. Some of our best beach trips are last minute bookings due to People canceling because of weather.
