Do you guys run heater at night while sleeping? Seems to be split on this. Poisoning from the propane leaking. I've heard that's older units. Not really a concern on newer ones.

My buddies run it before bed then shut it off. My wife refuses with the kids. Wants it running. But it's definitely on my mind.

Not to thread jack, but I'm sure vic could use this info as well.
I run both heaters any time its cold LOL. All night they are kicking on and off to keep the coach warm.
If you are really worried they make propane alarms as well as integrated with the carbon monoxide alarm.

RV Awnings - Work best when they are kept stretched tight. We found a few of these ‘de-flappers’ attached to each side of the fabric really helped. Then, View attachment 1462840 ratchet straps ran from the front of the awning frame and attached to stakes driven into the ground helped even more.
And I like the Velcro or strap the awning together when it’s retracted and against the motorhome. You don’t want that thing falling out while going 70.

This is my solution. Just going to grab a few and put them throughout the trailer.

Either the heater or a space heater with the generator running

If you have hookups, use some electric heaters instead so your not burning gas. Just make sure they are placed away from combistibles.

Does your trailler not have a built in LP sensor alarm? I thought that was standard equipment on all Rv’s/trailers.

Propane.

We run the heater for a little bit before we go to bed then turn it off and go to sleep . When we wake up run a little bit to take the chill off and get out of bed and get the day going . Not worried about anything happening when we're sleeping , just like to sleep breathing cool air .

It should have auto shut off for the heater if it doesn’t light just like the fridge. All the gas lines on my coach are under not inside the coach.

We’ve got pretty big gaps under our slides it seems pretty unlikely but I guess you never know. But we do have propane carbon and fire alarms so we’d at least get an alert.

This is a cool thread but as someone who is/was contemplating buying a first time motorhome or trailer, it scares the hell out of me. Seems like a lot of planning for shit that will go wrong. Maybe I'll stick to hotels.🤷‍♂️

Put the “make up room” tag on the door and be done with it.

I’ll usually set the heater to around 60 when out in the desert just in case but when the propane heater turns on it heats up the room fast and it’s too hot. We will be plugged in next week so probably run the roof heaters for the most part.

We run the heat sparingly. I can't stand the dry air. We use sleeping bags if it's going to get real cold. In the morning pop some cinnamon rolls or biscuits it the oven. Then back to bed for 20 minutes. Smells good, taste good and warms the place up. When the kids are small we would make cookies just before bed. Great way to warm the toy hauler a bit.

I’m with you and don’t run the heater at all. Cold? Add another blanket. Heater is used in the morning sometimes to get rid of the chill if it’s really cold.

Don’t run the heat……. FUCK THAT……. This is supposed to be relaxing and on vacation, not a scene out of the wagon heading down the Oregon Trail! Heat, AC, water, power…… all in the camp spot you chose. We are AMERICA, not a 3rd world fkn country!!!

My GF had 3 weeks of training for new job, I guess the dogs and I were to loud, so she moved her office into the RV, heater was blowing all day, I was surprised how little propane it used.

CO alarm for the win. Mine even woke me up one night when one of the coach batteries was getting hot. I run my lp heater on about 65 or so if dry camping and if plugged in I run one of the a/c heat pump units. Not all rvs have heat pump a/c though. Both of mine are but have never had to use both to heat. Did end up buying 2 new house batteries next day. The one was really cooking.

In my house I have the heater set to come on at 62.....AC at 80....Pretty much the same deal when I was living in my 5th wheel for the last 3-4 years. Put some clothes on or take some clothes off.....lol Its a mindset for the most part. I only recently started sleeping under the sheets and have had to add a blanket but I throw it off most of the time.

The propane heater in the 5th wheel would suck it dry in no time and I have 2 30G tanks.

I would just use a little localized elec heater when needed. Same here at the house although I am all electric here now.

However.....when the pups were traveling with me they always had their own AC or heater running. Just the way I am with the pups.

Call me cheap....DILLIGAF

A little more progress on the trailer today. Replaced all the plywood on the sides and ramp. Going to throw 2 2x4 against the sides and screw another sheet of plywood across to make a 6x3 box for all the wood. I’ll tarp that and strap it down and then bikes can go up tight to that. I think it’s going to work out. Im probably over killing for this trip but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

Oh and fixed this up as best as I could for now. I’ll ratchet strap it and weld it perfect tomorrow. I’m happy with it for now though. New Jack should be here tonight I’ll bolt it on or weld it on tomorrow

Ok last thing the trailer needed was a new jack. I installed it upside down because it’s counter clockwise to raise but I don’t care right now. Tomorrow I’m going to gas up the rv and fill it with water. Then hook it to the trailer so I can start to load up the trailer. I can’t believe people are already coming I want to keep working 😫

That is what occurs in my house as well.
I end up food shopping, drink shopping, packing, prepping, etc.
Wife packs the her and the kid clothing.

She cooks all meals while camping, does all the dishes and then unpacks everything once home

We load the trailer and put wood under all the bikes and SxS . More room for toys without a firewood box .
I’ll probably throw more under I’m just a little worried about it flying out. I have a bunch of logs from a tree I cut down that should be fine.

Heated chair! What a boss!

Pride is a good term. You should be proud. You worked hard for that. I don't mind doing it all Solo.(nice to know I'm not alone there.) What drives me crazy is all the last minute stuff that get piled on. Otherwise, I like to organize it so i know where everything is and i Iike how I clean it. Same with the boat and cars. I'm particular how I do it.

But vic, you're making me feel lazy. I need to get back to work on this truck and wrap it up so I can start camping again im.having FOMO and you haven't even left yet.

If you didn’t get around to inspecting/Repacking the wheel bearings, at least jack up one side, and spin the wheel for noises, and check it side to side for play.

This time a year, bearings don’t overheat, unless there’s friction or play.

Also reminder to max out the tire air pressure with the heavy load.

I always ran at night with it on. Made sure I had some quality carbon monoxide alarms installed inside. I think its the carbon monoxide risk if the vent gets blocked etc.

Usually my girl will do the grocery shopping but she is a nurse and works tonight and will be sleeping most the day tomorrow, so we may go together tomorrow night. I could usually get my son to help pack his clothes and stuff but he is with his Mom this week since he will be with me all next week. I really don't mind because now that I got the RV fixed I just have to square away the trailer tonight and get my Christmas tree down and in the trailer and ill be good.

It was way more work with the ToyHauler.
Unload SXS, pack everything, load SXS. It was a PIA and took hours. Fitting 2 RXR’s in a 18’ area required Tetris, including a ramp setup since one was at a 45 degree upward angle. Lasted 1 trip, until I was over it :)

Now with the RV and Trailer, the work has dropped. Pack RV and go. SXS’s stay in trailer unless repairs are needed when home.

Yea the enclosed trailer makes my life so much easier, hated having to load the flat bed trailer day of because I couldn't leave it loaded out front of my house overnight.
