My father is 84. He still calls Chevron gas stations Standard stations and 91 gas “high test”. Just an environment they grew up with I guess.

I can’t think of anything I’ve grown up with that I do that with though.

My Dad always asked for Ethyl. But yeah I still call them Standard stations too

This is what I was taught. "Pump" gas sits about .750 to .770 (ish, don't know about the "E" bs) Both Av and race gas sit in the .710 to .720 range. Once again though, this is going in the way back machine to the early 2000's...when I had fun stuff. The issue was trying to get it to be the right A/F with carbs. Seems stupid, until you start figuring in the volume of air in relation to how much fuel actually comes through the jets...and that float height changes because the fuel makes the float more buoyant.

Bottom line, I personally never found a dead nuts answer. Maybe if I would have had a dyno and some more brain cells?
I think this is the real benefit of adding a little light oil to av gas. The specific gravity difference means that the two fuels have different vapor points. If your engine is EFI it’s probably not going to make a lot of difference but a carbed engine would benefit from a rejet when switching to av gas. By adding a little light oil to the av gas you bring the specific gravity of the gas closer to pump gas.

I just bought a Ford Thunderbolt with a 427 side oiler, it has 13.5:1 Compression.
I don't have the car yet, it is being shipped from across the country so should have it next week.
I have successfully used AV gas 100LL in several other cars and boats.
What do you guys think, will this work ok on this engine. I don't plan on running it hard and
was thinking I would dial the ignition timing back a bit.

You bought a Thunderbolt and don’t plan on running it hard?? I’m not sure if you should turn in your man card or simply fall to your knees and pray for forgiveness. 🤔😁

Maybe a bad choice of words, not that I won't run it hard, maybe more like I won't abuse it, FOR SURE I will use it to it's full potential!!!!

Ok now you’re talking. Just remember that the gods of automotive performance are always listening and a slip like that could cause The Great Differential Pumpkin to pass you by. 😂

On a side note. Congratulations on tracking down and purchasing one of the most iconic performance cars ever. Pics look awesome. 👍

There’s definitely down sides to these big blower motors. The polishing l, running avgas or race gas etc and like Chris said above, DAYUM they thirsty. I go out for a day around here offshore it’s 100 gallons easily. Run up to pirates and back and a little messing around maybe down to steamboat or something…100 gallons. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

But then again
