We use them in theater projects.Holy crap that's a monster. Bad ass, congrats!
Too funny because today I was wondering why my system sounded so flat. It was because my 12" Mirage sub quit working. No prob, I grabbed its twin from the garage and that one isn't working, either.
I
you might want to check this place out. I took my old stereo to them and got it repaired for a very reasonable price. You will have to make 2 trips to vegas for it but it was worth it for me. It was an old Miida that I bought as the first thing with my first job in high school, still running in the garage. And some of the stuff on the shelves is amazing.I'm also waiting to take delivery of another Yamaha amp - an M-65 and a C80 preamp. The M-65 is in protection mode...so not much hope for it. Fingers crossed for the C80...my C85 has loose/cracked solder joint on the pre output.
All I have is some 25yo Technique 15's in the shop. Not much, but with 500 Watts they do okay for a hillbillyI’ll see your 12 and raise you

Thanks, I looked at them… I see they have kits for most speakers, but didnt see any Boston Acoustics. I pretty sure it fairly universal.
Thinking it over.
The best news…
4 Pigeons on a rooftop about 75-90 yards away… Its sniping time.. LOL.
Awesome, that seems like a fun gig, designing kickass systems with other peeps cash!We use them in theater projects.![]()
Wow, hey thanks for the reference. I never heard of them before and they have a nice selection of used gear, too. I will give them a call.you might want to check this place out. There was a guy I used in garden grove or near there that re-foamed a JL Audio 12” w6 for me a couple of years ago…he was reasonable.MFKR…
My old school like 25 year old Boston Acoustics 10” Powered Subwoofer. The rubber around the woofer is so deterioted, and just cant get it to glue correctly. This is my garage set up, not my main set up…
So I went into Best Buy a bit ago. I was going to get a stand alone subwoofer and just replace it inside the old cabinet…
As I was walking into the store.. They had a ton of red tag clearance items out of the high end portion of the home audio section. So I get to browsing… and find a Martin Logan Dynamo 400 8” over 50% off.. $174.00… 75w RMS and 150 peak…
Bought it, got it connected about 20 minutes ago… Fuck me… just not enough power/bass… I have it cranked fully up and its just not what I am used to.
I am in pickle here… return it, and go back to plan A…
Step up and go buy that nice 12” 400w Martin Logan they have at 50% off, still over $400 for my garage…
MFKR… Am I going to regret not returning this… or just live with… ugggg…
The good news is the cigar is awesome, on a nice fall day in Reno area, with a high 64 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. BTW… the pigeons start roosting on my neighbors roof in about an hour, might be able to snipe a few with pellet gun…
I had almost the same system for almost 30 years, loves me some Yamaha, great system! My $30 Yammy stack. I was after the preamp, but like the majority of oldschool Yamaha preamps...it has issues. So the seller refunded the majority of my cash and he let me keep the equipment. A small M-35 that sounds really nice. Not pictured is a working cassette deck.

Why is that beautiful Marantz on the bottom getting no love! Looks to be a 2325? I'm a sucker for old school audio!I don’t know about for the money. But I’ve been waiting to set these up and give em a rip.

I'd love to hear what they sound like. New vs the vintage ones.I think the JBL L100s in this ad got more attention that the tapes
Go to Best buy and have them play the rock song of your choice on the Martin Logan motions. That ribbon tweeter that they use puts you on the stage as Clapton wails on LaylaI'd love to hear what they sound like. New vs the vintage ones.
One reason why is: I listen to many types of music, but I've never been able to reproduce that rock concert feeling...
Rap music = easy (we've all been in someone's car or boat with $10k in subs and mid range and tweeters and when turned up to 11 it's badass and sounds like you're in the club). Same thing for dance music, easy for it to sound good, loud and clear and enjoyable.
But rock music? So hard! I donno it just never sounds as impactful and cool at home or in any fancy car sound system I've ever heard, it's always this muddled mess that gives me a headache when I turn it up loud the way I like it. Low volumes it's ok, but turn it up like you're at a concert and everything falls on its face. And I got a pretty good audio setup. Maybe I never had good *good* speakers before! Or maybe my room acoustics always suck. But then again I listen to jazz, vocals and other "difficult" music and it's fine and very realistic and precise on my speakers. It's just the damn rock music I can't enjoy like I want to!

Thanks, that's along the lines I was thinking as well! It's easy to make a lot of bass with relatively low power on a well-designed and well-placed sub, but it might be muddy. And also the woofers need some authority behind them, no way around it!JBL sound is generally synonymous with Rock n Roll...but there's so much that goes into audio it's hard to say what the issue is that you're experiencing.
From a nerd perspective, a good start is an amp with deep reserves...if output doubles each time impedance is halved, then it's got power.
Also, an amp with a high damping factor indicates it can better control speaker movement...but this can be a hard spec to find.
Then you want efficient speakers that can reproduce as much of the 20-20khz frequency response without losing output.
A speaker rated at 20 - 20khz, but it's at -10db on the low end, won't output deep bass.
I paired the latest L100s with a Mark Levinson amp similar to what I posted earlier in this thread...I think you would have liked the result despite the space, which was large with terrible acoustics. It was pretty cool actually exercising this equipment to its full rated specification

Still have a large facility in Northridge, same JBL facility but now under the Harman labelJames Bullough Lansing
JBL had quite the facility in California back in the day. Testing, research, development, fabrication, design and manufacturing.
The guy I bought my Yamaha C85 preamp demod it for me using a huge Bryston amp and Forte, and then Chorus models...and it was like whoa. Huge sound and a single pair filled his garage.Klipsch

But I need a bookshelf style and the Heresy may fit that bill.
