Before I get into the next long post.. How many forums were you on that survived the advent of social media? Every single one of them I was on is no longer a forum. RDP is the only one that not only survived, but grew about 8 times since FB hit the scene. Our numbers are stronger than ever, and continue to grow each day.

I have built four or five forums (all successful) and have about 20 years experience doing it. Something I'd say is a key to that is actively being involved in the community. Almost everyone on here has my cell #, if they don't it is on the contact us page. I try to resolve any problems I can with people with regard to the site.

But Jesus.. You ever been in a bar where a dude and his chick are just fighting non stop? Kinda ruins the night for everyone, if ya know what I mean.. and that's what's happening here.

But just a FYI, you say you can't read PM's., that is not entirely true, you are one check box away from reading PM's. You are also one check box away from your MOD's being able to read PM's. Just because it's not checked at this moment doesn't mean you are not able to read PM's. If you don't know where that check box is your website admin can show you were it is.

I am a huge proponent of "free speech" as you have said. That said If you are over at my house and you and a couple of other guys are just non stop going at it, to the point where everybody else in the house is looking at that scene saying "wtf?" You don't get to hide behind the free speech card.

This isn't something that it would even be applicable too. This isn't arguing about civil rights, liberties, philosophy, history, current events.. LOL.

This is arguing about overpriced under delivered off road cars.

The end of the day RDP is a community, and I'm always going to do what's right for the community, even if it is detrimental to my own needs. (which on occasion that has been the case).

Literally the only thing I have ever asked of anyone to be a part of the community is "DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE."

Your other forums you referenced "positive posts", those forums are for the most part also "on topic" forums.. Meaning you stray to far outside the topic they start whacking shit left and right. RDP has never been an "on topic" forum outside of the tech forums.. The common thread is we all like cool / custom shit / boating / off-roading etc.

I have said it literally a 100 times. This is a place to escape work for a few minutes a day. To learn new stuff about boats / the river / boating locations / Offroad / family adventures / drinking beer / having fun.. Good time sports.

If your sole purpose is to come on here and cause problems, then ya aren't gonna be here for very long. It isn't a free speech issue, it is a civility issue.

The only reason I brought up positivity recently is because some of these guys will literally pick anything apart.. Some poor bastard spends every last nickel on his pride and joy and some guys are "yeah it's a shit box". Call me crazy but I don't think that's ok..

This isn't Facebook, nor is it IG.. some shit talking / friendly jokes whatever I'm good with.. but when it passes that and is literally just personal attack after personal attack? Dragging everyone down because their fucking lives are miserable.. Fuck that. They can take that black hole of suck down the road.

I mean most the bullshit between these four or five isn't even funny? How many times do we gotta listen to the same stupid fucking jokes.. One is always saying right on cue, or living rent free. The others are constantly saying Psaski.. It's fucking dumb, and I already got several jobs. I don't need another one pretending this shit is funny. If it was even slightly funny? It isn't though. These idiots have taken the delivery of a golf cart, whom most of them have zero actual interest in, and have turned this into something that is almost indescribable. Who actually gives a fuck?

Anyhow I hope that sheds some of my feelings on it. Here again is the rules of the site that were written in 2007.. Pay attention to the ones right in the middle. They have served us well for a long time.

Common Sense rules are in effect.

Multiple Screen Names, Threatening Someone, Involving Peoples Wives and G/F's, etc.. etc.. That'll all get ya Warning, or two (depending on what it is) and then your out the door. I realize that there's alot of "Grey" areas with regards to that, as people have different ideas of what ok and what's not.

To clear that "grey" area up, it really doesn't matter what anyone other then Myself, or the people that are moderating the forum think. If your pushing it just to push it, then odds are your stay will be short.

As much as I'd like to have a completely "drama" free site, I realize people don't get along, and it's a matter of time before something happens. Keep it to friendly ribbing and you'll get no problems from me. When it crosses that line from "funny" to "angry" is the only time I'll ever get involved.

This is a PG site, so lets leave the Porn to porn sites, and the boats to the boatsites. If you'd get an indecent exposure ticket for it, then it doesn't belong here.

Rules relevant to bashing businesses

If you have a problem with a mfg / dealer / biz from either business dealings in the past, present etc. Then handle it in Private! Via a PM, E-Mail, Phone Call, Lawsuit etc.. Whatever the problem maybe, it is between YOU and THEM, not the rest of the world.

I have never been a fan of people using the internet to "leverage" what they want out of a business, nor have I ever been a fan of someone trying to hurt anothers livelihood through the use of an online message board. "Flaming/Bashing" the businesses that choose to participate in this site is not an option either.

The participation of manufacturers & dealers on my website is far more important to me then some guys need to publicly lambast them.
Please show them the respect they deserve.

I can give you a reason why I had to do it in the past. Someone accused someone else of sending child porn through PM's. As you are probably aware of even if you didn't "post" the child porn if it's found on your server you can be liable for it. Especially if you were informed of it and didn't do anything. I had to look through PM's and found nothing.

And the only one that costs money is the first link, the rest are free. Reading a database, or telling your web admin (if you are not tech savy) to read the database is also free. Logging in as another user is also free. So money isn't a concern if you want to look at PM's. There are valid reason's to look through PM's. So telling people that you can't look through them is completely false. I am surprised you haven't had a situration where you needed to do that yet.

That's a good point, what if I accused LOF of sending me child porn through PM's. Are you just going to let that slide with the notion "I can't read PM's". I think you would go into both accounts and see if it's really happening.

For the record LOF didn't send me anything, it was just an example.

First I have heard of it, but why would I want to buy it? Lol. I get that most tech guys have some idea that there would be no expectation of privacy.. I think people should be able to pm each other stuff. Why do I give a shit what they say in their private conversations. I’m not god I don’t want to read that shit. Honestly it annoys me that I get the emails back sometimes.

You should know I am the furthest thing from a tech guy as well. I handle exactly zero back end stuff on this website.. to the point I don’t even upload the ads.

In laymen terms, If you asked your web admin to email you every PM from user X:

If he says he can't do it: Fire him on the spot
If he says it will take an hour or more: Fire him on the spot
If he says is PDF ok? Say yes.

This is the equivalent to a mechanic changing oil. If he says he can't do it, fire him. If he struggles with getting the oil filter off for an hour fire him.

You think dave is going to make you show your "collection"? Nope.. he did say that at one time but that's when GRADS and a few other libs(non gun people) wanted in! It was just a way to stop them from getting in.. you have enough "big game" pics on here it shouldn't even be a question(and yes I'm a little jealous)
