I’ve been boating on Havasu since I was 16yo (I will soon be 62). Went to coyote cove with the wife and 2 small grandkids today and posted on a sand beach so the kids could play. We were separated from the adjacent beach by rocks and vegetation. Another couple (40-50’s) ask if we were going to stay, we said yes and they said ”well we were here first and we want quiet and don’t want to be bothered with listening to kids playing“, and ask us to leave. I said we were on a seperate beach in a public cove, you don’t own the cove, Im not moving.

I got blasted with every word in the book and said I wasn’t moving, in fact my son was coming in a few minutes to spend the day with us. They weren’t even on the beach, they anchored 15’ from the shore! They left and moved to the other side of the cove flipping us off and yelling obscenities, I said “ nice talk in front of a 4 & 6 yo“ He told me to come over and stop him.

What the hell is going on with our society! I just ignored him because I know may people are ”packing“ on the lake. Is this what’s it come too? He could have easily said we have a large group coming and I would have left.

I have no words….

Todays US population is about 335 million people.
When you were 16 (1978) the US population was 220 million.
That’s roughly a 50% increase in population.
Most of which, it sometimes seems, are in Havasu on the weekends. Lol
Besides just the added humans (which increases the odds of every kind of person being around) the generations have, overall, exponentially lost the traits of respect and courtesy.
I hate crowds in general. I’m not a fan of crowded lakes and giant boat crowds all tied together.
To me, any gathering over 4 people starts feeling cult like!😂😂
I’ve done the channel thing and I have enjoyed watching the spectacle while not actually being a spectacle!
I’ve also had a great time at hooky day on the delta both with my boat and in Napanut’s cheetah.

My perfect boating day looks a lot like this:

So many assholes. We owned one of the docks across from steamboat cove. Many times we would go out to use it and find non-owners on it. Many had pitched tents on it and were spending the weekend! Once a houseboat was tied up to it! All I asked for was a place to tie my boat up to. If they were nice we would invite them to stay and made many friends. If they were assholes we’d come close to blows! :mad:Eventulally they would leave. Many times I carried on the lake and many times thought about filling their boats full of holes…never thought about actually shooting them. Never actually brandished it. Not worth it! Many times we just moved on and did not let it ruin our day. The day we got rid of the dock was the beginning of enjoying the lake again.

I think people are just plain fuk'ing stupid nowadays. We think the are playing stupid, but I have come to believe they are really just that ignorant.

Always love it when the younger crowd pulls up next to us on the sandbar and start playing rap that is nothing but profanity ladened crap in front of my young girls and others on the beach and act like I'm some out of touch old fuk'r when I approach them nicely and ask them to change their damn music.

Apparently, some people didn't get enough of the belt when growing up...

How loud are these kids?? It’s not like you pulled up to the beach and started blasting crude rap music at full volume.

It’s a public lake, which means dealing with the public (however they may present themselves) as part and parcel of being there.

Me personally I’ll try to find a small beach that precludes additional boats pulling up that aren’t a part of our group. Or if I don’t care about the beach I’ll toss an anchor and just float just offshore of less desirable areas (so I’m not blocking or dealing with traffic out of a cove or off a beach).

Some people apparently think it’s a private lake and they get to set the rules. I’ve got that experience on Arrowhead and it grates to a degree but Havasu I expect anything goes.

People suck don’t read into it. Anyone who yells obscenities in front of young kids is an idiot.

We were on the river 4-5 years ago on our own beach with 2 dogs. A couple in a pontoon pulled up next us and were beside themselves that the dogs wouldn’t leave them alone. They were gutting fish on the beach 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

I was behind a guy on the ramp at perris Saturday. His truck moves forward into the area where you start to back down the ramp. He’s in his boat with wife to launch when is partner backs him down. They yell at me to drive around into the slot next to them then he proceeded to tell me to launch my boat as they wanted a little more room on the other side. I said thanks and have a safe day on the water.

Every boat on the water seemed to be aware of their surroundings and friendly. every time we went buy another boat with my 11yr old in tow on her wakeboard we could hear and see other boats clapping and cheering her on.

Not the best story but there’s still hope.

If you are on a boat and pull up someplace sandy and don't want to be around kids then you should probably just start hanging out in the cemetery.

My kids were getting loud and rowdy one time and I apologized to my Grandpa for them being unruly. He looked at me with the biggest grin and said "the laughter of children is the fountain of youth." I can't express how much I miss that man...

I've had some interesting experiences at the river the last few years....I'm dead set on trying again this year, but if it goes the same way it has, I'm done. Like the sign said at Fox's .... Be Nice or Leave.

Too many people out there who think their shit don't stink. I don't impose on anyone, I'm not loud (boat doesn't even have a stereo)....I keep my dog on a leash or keep him on an isolated beach where he can't get to others. If you pull up and find a problem with me, you can fucking leave.

It comes from a society where people think they can run their mouths and have 0 repercussions. Back in the day you'd get clocked in the mouth for being an asshole. Now people just say anything and are fearless.

Yep, Some people haven't ever woken up on the floor, wondering WTF happened. It's in those brief moments respect is learned at a young age.

The best punch I never saw was when a kid knocked me out in Chilcoot Charlie’s many years ago.
I was explaining to him how I was going to mop the floor with him and his buddy and next thing I knew I was waking up in the sawdust!
They already had him handcuffed so I’d been out for a quick minute.
For the record, I still had my beer in hand and did not spill a drop!

I pulled the plug on my river program over 10 years ago, specifically due to the element that was showing up. I remember one specific weekend when I realized it was no longer a place I wanted to spend time and money to be apart of. Worked all week, sat in traffic to get out of town on a Friday night, pulled the boat out of storage late night, launched at the crack of dawn and ran up to needles then came back down to the lake for breakfast and to spend the day on the water. We pulled into a beach and team shitbag tweakers pull up and proceed to be dirtbags. We bailed to another spot, team neck tattoo felon shitball pulls up and proceeds to be shitballs, we bailed and hit a third spot, lather, rinse, repeat.

Drove home that weekend knowing I was done, gonna sell my junk and find some new cool spots to focus on. It was no longer just cool heads everywhere looking to enjoy the lifestyle that had been in place for decades, the vibe was off. I’ve rolled through Parker in April midweek here and there, it’s still pretty sweet. I choose my battles these days and am pretty good at staying away from the masses.

Thanks for all the replies. It really is a sad state of affairs these day. It’s kind of the same thing at Glamis. I’ve been going there a long time and now I can’t even enjoy that place either. Guess I need to start going Monday to Thursday.

Early spring and fall are still good I think. The problem is the water is still a bit chilly for little ones. I'm pretty anti-social. Crowds are not my favorite places. Some people love the channel or Pirate's...I love the water or the sound of motors and laughter.

The credit card cowboys, and those that refi'd to buy toys, will thin out. They always do. More often than not, the bad actors aren't the long term people. Occasionally there are the drunks, 10ft tall and bulletproof, but they tend to gravitate towards areas easily avoided.

Don't give up hope yet. People are stupid and rude, but not all of them.

Won’t catch me at the river after Mother’s Day or before Labor Day anymore. Last decent trip was years ago, in on Wednesday, out first thing Saturday.
That is truly a shame. Boating should to be an escape from the "real" world where we are surrounded by like minded families and people who are all there for the same reason...to have fun and build memories!

That’d make a good hallmark card!
Todays reality is much different.

It’s really quite simple.
There’s too many people, all with different ideas of fun, that are never going to co-recreate without conflict.
It’s just too crowded.
Tatted flat biller roid ragers in a 24’ wake buster have a very different approach to their day than Ozzy and Harriet and their 2.3 kids and family pet.
On the river you’ve got the entire range of boaters. From baller cats to pontoons to bayliners and all points in between.

For me to “escape” I prefer to be surrounded by no one else.
You can’t go to arguably the busiest 12 miles (or whatever) of narrow river in the country and then complain about it.

For me, my happy place is alone in the boat. Sure, I'd like to get the wife/kid and my Dad out there. Before my Mom passed a few years ago, my folks would be there every other week, midweek, skiing and doing whatever they did (dad probably getting yelled at when they weren't skiing) but seemed to enjoy it. I started my business about the time my mom got sick and didn't have a lot of time...we did 2 trips last year but they both turned into a shitshow for various reasons. I have a hard time hanging it up because I don't want my Dad to throw in the towel now that mom's gone. I think what's been sorta turning me off the last 5 years or so is that when I go out there (my folks and I (wife/kid) shared a place)....is that I had too many people to keep happy. I couldn't really do what I wanted to do. Wanna keep both folks happy, wanna keep the wife happy, kid entertained, dog entertained, and I wind up miserable. Last year, we headed up river to a beach which was kinda crowded but we knew a bunch of guys, so it was cool....my Dad showed up about 20 minutes later on the jet ski with my son and had to beach about 200 feet down. I went down there and grabbed the ski to beach it next to us, idled around in circles for a few minutes making my intentions very clear to everyone....nobody gave a shit, nobody tried to help, people kept getting in my way. I saw an opportunity to thread the needle and did it....about 12" on each side of the ski between about 3 different boats in a 5mph current, no problem. Beached it and hopped off, only to get ripped a new asshole buy someone who's boat I "almost" hit. I missed it by a foot, on purpose. Not my first fucking rodeo. He could have helped a bit, as he looked right at me 10 times, but no. Others could have helped too, but they didn't. Instead I got to listen to then talk shit amongst themselves for the next 30 minutes before I said fuck it and backed outta there with the prop halfway outta the water....they moved outta the way just fine then.

Seems like lots of this kinda shit lately. I've been going there since I was about 7 years old. Had a blast as a kid. Took a break for about 10 years after high school but then got back into it in 2008 or so and it was just as much fun as I'd remembered it. Something changed in the last 10 years....its not the same anymore. I'd call it but I don't want to let down my Dad and the wife/kid.

the only time I have fun out there really is when I sneak off before dinner and do a rocket run from BR down to lost lake and back...all by myself, right before sunset. I suppose if I can get a couple of those in this year, that'll make buying the new trailer worth it.

Shocked you feel/felt that way. It’s a big river with plenty of space to go find your own beach.

If I want to get away from people on a holiday weekend it takes 30 mins.

You guys haven't even mentioned dealing with the launch ramp shenanigans.

Park Service here at Mead and their stupid ass design. 2 lanes to launch, with a dock in the center. 1 boat ties up and blocks the lane. Meanwhile the line is 20 plus deep. Super fun.

The dock in the center between two narrowish ramp lanes is quite the deal. One of the lakes up here has that setup at the State Park. People tie their boat up, then drive back to town to buy a battery cuz their boat won't start (Gee, it was fine five years ago), and that ramp is out of commission. Must be a govt. designed and approved thing!

The answer is YES.
Way too many ‘ME’ people out and about, that never learned common courtesy.

I spent my summers growing up (age 5 to 16) living with my grandparents. Was taught many things during those summers. All my kids (step-sons and daughter), spend the summers working my FIL’s ranch. Something about spending time with your elders teaches respect, common courtesy, etc.

Ya people are rude as all hell now. We had an experience this past weekend. Group of 15 on a rental toon was coming through the channel on the wrong side we were trying to stop it from hitting boats they had no clue what they were doing a few exchanged words with people on the other side of us. Long story short as they were driving away the rental were screaming next time we will hit you on purpose. I don’t get it.

A little off subject. I saw a guy in Target in Paso Robles with a shirt that said Fuck You You Fucking Fuck. It is just hard to believe somebody would wear a T-shirt like that in public. I can't believe somebody would actually buy something like that.

I like being places where I feel the freedom that is offered in this country, when too many people show up at places too often that goes away. There is a laundry list of reasons why havasu is no longer on my list of places to visit, all of it based on population density. I’m not sure I should be saying this in an open forum, but did you know there are inland body’s of water where you don’t have to pay to launch a boat and will be hard pressed to see other people all day?

I never grasped the prejudice towards kids until late in life I had my daughter. I just never was on the receiving end of it as I always enjoyed my friends kids and would never exclude them based solely on the fact that they are "kids". The more the merrier.

We live in a highrise, and my daughter is 1.5 years old. She is the cutest thing in the world, and I swear that's not just because she is mine LOL...
So in the elevator, she likes waving "Hi" to people that come in while we are in as well. The cutest wave, a little Hi out of her mouth. Would you guys believe that more than 50% of people dont answer her back or even smile? I shit you not, and she almost gets sad. And I confirm they make eye contact. They just ignore and look away.

What kind of miserable piece of human waste do you have to be to not wave back to a little baby smiling and waving at you? There is some evil evil stuff taking over the world guys. Nothing is sacred anymore. Kids, Animals, Seniors, Freedoms, its all being challenged.

To ask someone to leave a public beach because they dont want to "hear the kids". You can go fuck yourself. Sorry Pat you had to deal with that crap.

Makes no sense.

Its almost like they are overcompensating for something.
