I decided to quit cigarettes about a month ago by switching to vaping. I don't like how it looks doing it. But gotta say I do enjoy the different flavors you can get.

I'm going to quit altogether. Watching my mom with COPD is motivational. Right now I'm on 20 mg of nicotine, but have a bottle of 12 mg to switch to soon. Plan is to gradually reduce nicotine and quit.

Good for you!

Cigarettes are filthy and stinky. Prove me wrong. 😜

When I was in Vegas last week, I was sitting on a bench next to an outdoor seating area for a restaurant. I was talking to my daughter on the phone and all of a sudden, I'm smelling cigarette smoke. Really strong. I turn to my left, and there is a couple standing two feet away from me smoking. Like I'm sitting on the park bench, and they are both standing in front of the bench next to me. Seriously? I moved to the edge of the bench, but couldn't get away. I may have said something like "WTF?" to my daughter, gave the smokers a dirty look to match their dirty habit, and got up and walked 20 feet away. The woman noticed and went back into the patio dining area. The dude waited another minute or so and then went back to the patio. I went back to sit on the bench, and there were two cigarette butts on the ground. Pigs.

I have no willpower, so I'm thankful I never tried smoking (I can't even quit chocolate), so I do feel compassion for those of you hopelessly addicted and allowing the tobacco companies to control when you wake, take a break, and go outside (even in crappy weather). My mother-in-law has to go outside and stand in the freezing cold, all by herself, every 30 minutes or so. Just her and her cigarette. The tobacco companies command her to do that, and she complies. It must suck, and I'm glad I don't smoke.

That being said, I cannot believe anyone still smokes with all of the help out there, and I REALLY can't believe young people smoke, including vaping. They know how it ends.

But vaping is still better than tobacco. More addictive, I hear, but less stinky. No butts to dispose of.

Vapes are easily smoked indoors so watch your amount of usage as it’s more convenient.

A typical cig is about 10 puffs. Having to go outside and all that is more of a chore.

But with vapes you can rip 10 puffs while sitting at a desk or couch no prob.

I applaud you for trying to quit, but be careful, I know several people that are more hooked on vaping than they ever were on cigarettes. I used Nicorette lozenges about 12 years ago and they seemed to help. After smoking for over 40 years, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

The vape is the easiest method to quit. But I do take more hits from it then cigarettes. With cigarettes I was just smoking enough to get my nicotine levels up. Vape is less messy. No ashtray to deal with. I like the flavors.

My moms oxygen needs are higher then those battery pack concentrators can deliver. So its bottles of oxygen and she can't really go anywhere with them. Basically stuck at home on oxygen 24/7. I don't want to end up like that.

I smoked when I met my wife over 30 years ago and continued for probably a year after we were together. I never really felt addicted even though I probably started when I was 12, I just thought I was cool and I did enjoy the taste. I remember walking through the grocery store smoking and even working in a restaurant doing it. We didnt go outside.
I still apologize to my wife for it as I had no idea how it smelled until after I quit. We have a couple relatives that we see that are smokers and that post cigarette breath is horrible.
Chewing is even more disgusting to me.

Yes vaping helps quitting smoking, but it's not just the nicotine. I've found it harder with the hand motions and keeping hands busy, rubber band around your wrist snap it before next puff just a delay. Good luck! To add I haven't been sick for 6 years.

The worst part of a polite smoker(goes outdoors) amoungst you is the stench wafting off them for hours when they do come back inside.🤮

This is a real thing.
The wife has seen many people with it in the hospital, all under 30, all vape.
Both pre and post Covid for those who might wonder.

I haven’t had a smoke since Sunday, or a drink. I’ll probably drink tonight or tomorrow, and I’ll smoke. I’m totally fine without them, I don’t carry them with me, I don’t smoke outside of my garage, I don’t smoke on vacation or in my cars. I will smoke and drink 2/3 times a week, and then not crave either one for a week again. People think it’s weird, idk, I don’t think I have that addictive personality. 🤷🏼‍♂️ vaping makes me cough like a mother fucker.

Good luck in quitting that nasty habit.

Never thought I'd see the day my parents quit. Pops quit a few times over the years, but would always go back. Mom never attempted, even with all of us kids/grandkids trying to get her to stop. Finally after mom getting COPD and pops Dr saying their health was just going to get worse as they get older, they both gave it up.

I took up cigs around 15 years ago at 50. Today as then I smoke on occasional weekends when around friends smoking as we drink. My doctor still shakes his head each year at physical... he tells me its very rare that the nicotine doesn't grab us physiologically. Like you said... maybe we're just not the addictive type. Who knows

As for vaping... I use a weed pen sometimes. I gotta be gentle though cause it makes me cough bad if hit it too hard. Weeds illegal in Baja if you can believe that shit ha.

Having recently quit smoking ( April 7th 2022 ) after 30 years, let me tell you, it gets easier as time goes on. I tried the nicotine gum route and almost puked because of the giant nicotine rush the first time I tried it. Decided to quit cold turkey, and I haven't looked back. Believe me if I can do it, anyone can do it. Do what works for you and don't quit quitting. I have not felt this good in decades. I cant believe that I didn't try harder at quitting years ago.

Yep. Or when they are in the car with you on a road trip and need to stop for a smoke. As soon as they get in your car the whole interior reeks of cigarettes.

Kids came to school smelling like cigarettes because their parents smoked. 😕 I guess in that respect, chewing tobacco is better.

Maybe get a bedazzled flesh tone vape with some pink fur?

gaaay-ha-gay.gif

But for real, it's pretty easy to get addicted to vaping because it's allowed inside and it's easier to hide.

This hits close to home.

I lost my mom and her parents to smoking.

More recently a good friend has had one lung removed and now his wife is stuck in bed on oxygen, all smoking related illnesses.

That said I have turned into a bit of a Stoner after my chemo treatments because of stomach upset, one hit on the electronic marvel and it's sleepy time for me.

Nobody gets out of this alive.

Water vapor laced with flavoring... I don't see how that could be a bad thing 🤪

On a serious note, whatever you need to do to get off the cancer sticks is good for you and everyone around you. You are honestly just trading one vice for another, but hopefully your plan to progress and give it all up in total works out.

Horrible habit to have from any perspective.

I'd smoked since I was a teenager. Smoked around diesel exhaust, burning oil/fuel fumes, asbestos, etc. Lucky to have no lasting lung damage/cancer. Switched to E-Cigs ("Vape" has such a negative "faxxy"connotation) for a little over a year, until I had a major heart attack at age 60. Mostly due to clogged coronary artery, but quite sure smoking, both tobacco & E-Cigs, had some input on that also. Quit cold turkey at that time, a week in the hospital helped, and haven't looked back. That was over 8 years ago. No patches, no gum, no crutches, just said I'm done.

Please research the damage that vape chemicals do to the lungs. They're just now finding out that it's a whole lot worse than tobacco smoking, as far as long term, long lasting, irreversible injury to the lung tissue.

How about a hypnotist?
As long as she's got her papers in order and doesn't steal my wrist clock while I'm under her spell. ;)

The vape is the easiest method to quit.
Wrong, your just substituting one bad habit for another...
I smoke Marlboro reds for 34 years and stopped on June 7, 2011. You have to want to stop or it ain't gonna happen. Vaping is just swapping one fucked habit for another and it will kill you just as those stick would.
When I was ready I did the Chantix for 30 days and never had an urge from day one. Even after 12 years there are times I smell someone smoking and it triggers the urge to want one but that thought is gone within 5-10 seconds.
You can do it, it just takes your own willpower...good luck.

Quitting smoking is not ez. Until you quit fucking around and make up your mind to quit.

What brought me over the finishline was my younger brother telling me he was tougher than me ,becuase "I let a fucking cig lead me around like a bitch"

That was it. Done! Pills, patches and about a month later I am one of those EX Smokers.
I also proved I am stronger and tougher as I haven't gone back. Not even one puff.

Once you realize smoking is a two part deal. (The nicotine addiction AND the habit of smoking) its cake to quit. Put away the douch flute is ain't helping you quit. Get serious.. and you will be on the other side before you know it

Good luck

Good luck with quitting. They are nasty. I smoked for 20 years and stopped cold turkey. I was fed up with having something control me.

My mom has emphysema (stage 1) and my step dad has COPD. Both smoked 2 packs a day for 60 years. I fear they will not live long.

Five or six years ago I was almost done with both. But my mom almost died from a COPD attack and like an idiot I bummed smokes off my cousin at the hospital. Started cigarettes again. I've been smoking since 11 and I'm 51 now and need the extra help of dialing back the nicotine.

Hope you kick the habit. Never did it myself but grew up with parents that did. To each their own…but like mentioned earlier the smell is offensive to us non-smokers. My biggest gripe is smokers throwing the butts on the ground…shit you pulled the full length turd from a box,put that spent turd back into that box and take it with you..own that shit.
