I haven't followed it much since Dale died. Ironically the racing I enjoy watching the most is the NPK drag racing. It's more entertaining as it's made to be on TV.

As for the popularity of NASCAR. A good friend of mine is in charge of marketing and sponsorships for T Mobile for the Central US, he's based in Nashville. When he started 10 ish years ago he called NASCAR and was told this is the price and they have an over a year waiting period to get in. Now he gets calls several times a year and they are willing to negotiate with him. I asked him why he still advertises there and he said it's dirt cheap.

There are a lot more road races now than there were even five years ago and nobody wants to watch fwd cars race.

There was six road courses last season and the street race....I think this season they took out one road course though...

To answer the question, my son and I are both Nascar fans...we watch on TV and go in person to most of what we consider local races....I have followed it since my younger years, and I will say as much as people above think they know everything and the sport is dying, its not...

TV viewership is down, 5% in 2023 and 10% since 2018.

Dale Sr dying was the start of the decline for me. Then, the points format changed to what is now evolved into and called Chase for the Cup. I was about done at that point. I think it's ridiculous.

- Toyota be let in
- cars have almost no resemblance to an actual production car, multi-car team dominance
- now really only 4 engine builders.
- the driver's personalities are cold and most probably couldn't turn a wrench.
- i feel the spirit of what NASCAR was is gone. I'm sure the in-field experience is still great, watching otherwise is a bore.

Exactly - that may force the domestic automakers to build some real rear-drive sedans. I really don't know why Cadillac doesn't jump into NASCAR, the CT5 is the right size. I do know that they are involved with IMSA and LMP, but they don't use cars that consumers can identify with. Entering NASCAR would be an excellent reason to produce more of the CT5-V Blackwings and hopefully that would bring the prices down so normal people could afford them.

I still watch but not as much as I use to. Recording it is an absolute must because all of the network coverage sucks ass and the amount commercials are insane plus almost every time they go to commercial a wreck happens which then turns into more commercials FFWD is the only way to watch. Don't need to see the BS ie their cutaway car and all the other non racing crap they put on. DTV use to have a NASCAR channel which was great but it's long gone. I will say that FOX is better than NBC, The lead NBC commentator is annoying as fuck. I also agree that they have really done a disservice to the sport with the car design basically turning it into IROC.

Wife and I have been following for close to 30 years and have been to many tracks from Richmond to Fontana.
We’ve donated to Victory Junction, Best Friends, and the Betty Jane France foundation, among others.
For the past 5 years we’ve been guests of Alex Bowman at Phoenix. With seats in the ALLY Suite including catered food and free beer and drinks. We’ve also been given VIP passes and have met or at least seen most of the drivers, owners and teams. My wife is still giddy over Jeff Gordon. The teams and drivers are are very approachable and willing to talk when they have a chance. Everyone involved is Patriotic. Some races and tracks are better than others, and the rule changes might not seem good at times, but I doubt NASCAR ever made a change to intentionally make a race less entertaining, it just turns out that way sometimes.

We used to go to the Dumont Dunes with a few drivers between the Fontana and Vegas races. Then we got a few to go to Glamis between Vegas and Phoenix. Were some good times with them. They always brought a few team members or coach drivers with them. We got to go to some races and got some pretty good VIP treatment. Sadly I haven't watched more than a handful of races the last couple of years. I think the chase is kind of stupid. If one team can dominate more power to them, the other teams just have to figure it out.

The opposite of that was California/Fontucky. They’d get so strung out after green you couldnt tell there was a leader and a guy all the way in the back. It would be a complete circle of cars, droning like bees. I’d fall right to sleep in the stands.

I thought it was a great race specially from 60 to go to the red flag. There were more lead changes in those laps then there were last years entire F1 season with more possible winners than there had been in the last ten years of F1. Ask yourself honestly, how many drivers really have a chance to win an F1 race when the green flag drops?

I was a casual Nascar fan but now I really enjoy F1. We watched most of the Daytona 500 and I was kind of sirprised that I knew so few of the drivers.

I did watch the last 45 or so laps @Kelly's Tavern drinking IPA's, the golden children were taken out with the usual crashes at the end of just about every Daytona 500 finish.

Just got back from my 1st Daytona 500, it was on the bucket list. I used to be a huge Nascar fan, it's faded a bit over the last 10 years but we had an opportunity to go this year and it might just get me back into it LOL. Spent all of speed week there, Duels were awesome and the truck race had a ton of action with some big wrecks. Rain on Sat and Sun were a bummer but glad I was able to push my flight 1 day and see the 500, lots of great 3 wide racing! Stayed a the Max Hotel right on the water, Kaulig and RCR teams were both there as well.

Highly recommend to try it at least once!

Super cool you're on here. I'm gonna guess Gilliland, Herbst would have a Hallett... I'm at the Landing, and was Chino Hills. Saw all three Gilliland generations race together at Irwindale.

We watch every weekend. Play some Fantasy. Still love it, but very pizzed about AutoClub Closing. Best infield in NASCAR, and we would be there this weekend!
