My wife wants one, probably a pre built Backdraft with a Coyote 5.0 and 5 speed. Anyone have one and can offer some suggestions?

I have had my Superformance since 2006. Great car and an authorized Shelby product.

If you are near the OC (Irvine) you can check out Hillbank's showroom. They sell both Superformance and Shelby's.

Here are some pics of their old showroom. The new one is bigger and has more cars.

I had a nice conversation with these guys at Barrett Jackson this year. If I was in the market I would at least talk to these guys.

Could you check with him? She wants the Blacked Out Package, Yes we are prepared for the $$$$$. Wife is turning 62 next month and wants to spend her SS check on a car lol.

Yea she’s a keeper. Her Dad turned a wrench for a stock car team that raced at Saugus Speedway years ago, so she’s a gear head too.

Definitely check out Hillbank in Irvine. Ask to speak with Tom Bogner, he's a great guy!

I've worked on both the Factory 5 and the Superformance.

I'm gonna say it greatly depends on who rigged it?

I think the fit and finish on the Superformance was better. I put a FAST EFI and redid the cooling system completely on a friend of mines car.

They both had stroker 427ci engines and Tremic's in them. There was Definitely no lack of power.

I've never heard of a Backdraft before. Do you have a link to the car you want?

Do a Google search of Backdraftracing.com.

Heres a pic of something similar to what she’s looking at.

I found it poking around.

For me, I'd have to see one up on a rack to get a feel for how it is built.

Seems like they have been around awhile. That's good. Just be sure to have it Thoroughly independently inspected by someone that knows what they are looking at/for.

I have a scar on my left ankle and my wife has one on her right ankle. If you buy one with side pipes, make sure it has covers on the pipes.
We called them "snake bites". I wear boots and jeans usually. Left ankle got it...boots wouldn't fit in the pedal box. Fun cars, make a u-turn in a heartbeat, even when you didn't plan on it

Look at the Vanguard website. They’ve got a ton of videos of the cars up on a lift and videos of the cars being driven. They look very well built, and factory built. Not someone putting it together in their garage.

This is with the 427 motor. Vanguard is overpriced.

Not a Cobra but an MG. The red one has a 355 with a turbo 350 and the green one has a 454 BBC with. 5 speed manual. Crazy fun cars to drive.

We initially was looking at one with the 427, but the Coyote is putting out 480 hp so we’re going with that.
The boy has a 427 in his and it is a wild ride, his previous two had mild 302s and was a better daily play mobile that would still eat 90% of anything else on the road

And forget the coyote

Such a cool car and I would love drive / own one!

This thread brings back memories of my dads brother, Uncle Russ who used to own an original 427 AC Cobra ( he is total left wing nut know) and my best friend's neighbor in HS who had a Cobra kit in 1986 that yanked the BBC427 out of his tunnel hull jet boat and put it in the car, that thing sounded so nasty!. I still recall him saying people looked down on him for the Chevy power plant but it looked and sounded so amazing with the side pipes!

Norm Teague has a very nice Cobra, he bought it new minus engine and built his own. It’s a way over built 427 side oiler, he knows the replica cobra world well and will answer any questions.

I built a Factory Five track car many years ago, super fun project. Would run in the front of a vintage class but also be fun and comfortable to cruise on the road. I built a 408 351W stroker with 5 speed and IRS suspension setup. View attachment 1381621

Truth be told...

I liked the look/layout of the factory 5 up on the rack, better than the Superformance.

But the body fit and finish on the Superformance was a bit cleaner.

Both are very nice cars.

You know when you see something then you can never unsee it? To my eye when you put most of the replica's next to a real 427 Cobra the rear bodywork always seems higher above the rear wheel arch, the Factory Five even more so.

Factory 5 with a 302W with twin 66mm turbos on a 6 speed would be a complete blast.

2400 lbs and 1200 hp

What ever you do, have someone in the know check it out first. There are some real pyles of shit out there that were slapped together by the toothless brothers back in the hills of West Virginia
I’ve always said you should take someone with you when you buy something that knows their shit and DOESN’T want you to buy it.

One of the few times I thought I was going to die on the street was in a legit side oiler powered Cobra replica.
Driver wasn’t the owner and we came in to a left turn way hot and at about the apex he went to the brakes😳. I still see the telephone pole in my mind.
She better know her shit if she wants a car like that.

short wheelbase sitting on the rear axle with fluffy tires.....They are a little spooky and part of the reason they were hard to insure. (Not sure if its gotten better)

60 year old technology.

Buy a Porsche GT4 or GT3

Well if you're talking about a Real Cobra, then yes.

These kit cars are Mostly all modern tech.

The insurance issue Could be a concern. But if you can afford a 100k toy that will mostly just sit in the garage, you can probably afford the insurance. 😎

They can be fast depending on the flavor/$$$ of the build. (Throw on 10k of brakes, 5k in suspension and a 800hp whippled coyote )

Personally have a hard time thinking they will run with a new mustang or camaro at double the price and these things don't exactly appreciate. Its basically a slow but scary car compared to modern muscle/sports cars.
