Is there any reason they don't run the DS shootout other then they just don't want to ?

I'm not trying to open up some huge can of worms. Just curious as the boat is literally made for shootouts and seems strange to only do one a year.

I've heard they don't like to travel & have nothing more to prove.
Watching & listening to them run the last 2 days here at LOTO was truly amazing

Owner stated he runs to entertain the local crowd and the shop is local.
When you look at the setup, transporting that to another site would take an army of volunteers

Pretty sure the swoops in dial 911 whooped that ass quite a few years?
A lot of us remember the glory years of Greg Olsen winning DS when it was too rough for everyone else, and 192 at LOTO and would have probably run 200+ with different props, so the boat deserves some respect. Can't control who owns it now.

I agree with you I should have been better about my words. I feel the current owner is a cheat and just wanted a trophy. But that boat has put respectful numbers out there.

When Greg owned it, the boat had different power. I respect Greg for the way he boated. Very humble and would not talk any shit. Would just put up insane numbers on each run.

The current owner of the boat, not so much. While his DS run looked good from the shore, lost all respect for the way he handled the situation. Only driver not to accept the QD’d run when DS figured out one of the guns was not working correctly. Ended up ruining the event and caused more stress then needed for the organizers. A true competitor would of said OK, disregard that run and I will prove to you I was right. The boat has Not come close to that number since that miracle run.

Long way of saying, respect the driver / operator not the boat.

Same as Bob Teague explains “he has nothing more to prove”.

I don’t know, he could shoot for the all time record. Try to get that bitch to 250 on piston power. I’d like to see that.

I couldn't agree more. I was just getting the impression that with this thread and a few others, that it was starting to turn a little negative towards the boat manufacturer.

244 for Quatar.
Don never discussed next year's possible new power.
She would have went 220 yesterday in a mile with different props.
He has always winds those engines high.

Eliminator is pumping some incredible boats out of that facility. Jake has done a great job with it. I was actually a little surprised there wasn’t a big eliminator presence at loto with all the new models.

Spirit of Qatar ran twin T55-L7C turbine engines putting out 2900hp each, but it’s still a Cosker/Mystic hull/boat same as American Ethanol.
American Ethanol is a combined 9000hp.

I'm surprised someone doesn't build a boat to try and beat them at the shootout. I know it's a ton of money and you get nothing in return, but I'm pretty sure some of the guys there could easily afford it.
It's awesome to watch him run but winning top gun 8 years in a row is kind of getting old.

On that note, why hasn’t anyone ran an Unlimited Hydro. Even if it was just as an exhibition ? I would love to see what it would do.

Yea, I have a feeling she could reach that number in the 3/4 mile. Would be cool to see. And it meets the length requirements.

I was incredible listening to the builders interview yesterday saying that the boat feels more solid at over 200MPH.......

On the Bud, notice the Port skid fin is "neutered some" for straight line races for less drag.

Those motors have been gone through and don’t make near the power they used too.

the Dirty Duck bought Peditor 2 and put the engines in the old Mycon race boat to run but ran into supply issues to get it finished.

What an amazing piece of machinery American Ethanol is. Amazing what any of these boats can do in such a short span.

The Tencara got destroyed in a race, and not that much after Mystic was born. I always thought the Tencara and Mystic were related, but I could be wrong. Kind of like the 40 MTI and the 36 Skater....couldn't be one without the other. =)

At this point, American Ethanol is just a gigantic drag boat. It gets towed to and from the starting like. Pretty sure they’re running it on alcohol. And the motors get rebuilt every couple of miles. Not to say it’s not impressive, watching that boat take a set and click off 200mph runs is awesome.

I was shaking my head at his last run. That boat was walking all over the place and he stayed in it the whole way.

John cosker is a naval architect and designer. The big mystic cats are the only manufactured offshore boats specifically designed to run over 200mph. Impressive.

I’m always trying to get John to make mystic shirts that say on the back “THE DAY STARTS AT 244 MPH…” in quotes and on the front “THE DAY IS YOUNG” with the M mystic logo. A nod to the record and the fact then can beat it and a slight to any challengers. But alas, John isn’t one to brag, even on the sly.

I was watching the live feed and you could hear Bob’s voice change. I think bob thought that run was going to end badly. IMO, he should of backed out and not push it.
Is there a way to see this run? I've read comments about it a few times but didn't see it live.

Not happening on a 3/4 mile course
244 was unthinkable too. Piston power pulls harder from slow than turbine. That’s why the offshore race classes were actually doable between the turbines and piston powered boats. In the turns, takes longer for turbine to get back up to speed. For the shootout, Gotta cross the gate at a certain speed and then slam the hammer down. Seems to me a piston boat could get there faster.

Does anyone know why the Good Boy 50 Mystic didn’t run? That’s seemingly the only boat capable of running 200+ on a 3/4 course.

As fast as Gary’s 388 is, it ran identical numbers to the DS shootout, right? I feel like it’s just getting going & he has to cut back the throttles….

John Roth’s 388 ran 197mph, but I can’t remember if that was in 2014, the same year as Qatar? And Romer ran 191mph in 2011.

What would Gary’s boat have run on the 1-mile course? At 184mph, would it have gotten up to 197mph & best JT’s number in Roth’s 388?

PR388, I Don’t know anything about the boats you mentioned. But at 200 it’s just as much about aerodynamics as it is hydrodynamics. So being a full canopy race boat is important. I wish someone would get in the battle for the 200 plus crown.

Shootouts have reduced the course from 1mile to 3/4 because of all the blow overs that were happening. Tops speeds are down from the mile course. They didnt do 250 mph with a mile run. Thats asking a lot to do it in 3/4 of a mile
