Check out Samaratin’s Purse (sp?) They do amazing volunteer work sifting through the debris. Im sure there are others but this group always was around the fires that I worked.

They’ll be set up wherever the claims areas will be set up. Get your name on the list.

I’ve been very surprised about what they’ve recovered. Mom’s favorite coffee cup. A missing ring or necklace.

It’s emotional for sure.

my guys on the Eaton Cyn fire and the house they are protecting View attachment 1467868 View attachment 1467870
Good on your guys. I’ve got a kid that’s LA city fire. He was Calfirr and Dalton hotshot, Sawyer. He became a paramedic because city calls are boring. He got called in and they put them on an ambulance. He was pissed because in his heart he’s a Sawyer and wanted to be in the mix.
Hope your team is safe.

Looters are scum. These people have been through enough.

I just got back from there. I couldn't event get to my sister's to put up some wood over that wall. Ironically to help keep looters out. But the looter suppression up there is un real. You can't get passed Woodley. East of Lincoln is tough to even breathe. West of Lincoln is much better. But there are a TON of law enforcement everywhere up there. Believe me i tried every way to get there. I'll go tomorrow. Couldn't. Get there until later today. I think it's just at dark.

Devastating to see all these photos. Equally to see in person. Prayers to all of your families and friends affected by this.

I'm sorry if anyone has lost a house and has to go through the claims process. I hate to sound like an ambulance chaser, but....

My suggestion is to get your claim filed now and your original replacement estimate in ASAP. (Before the backlog). There are coverages and limits for ( DWL) i.e. The house itself. Other Structures (fence, pool, sidewalks, driveway, detached garage etc), Personal Property ( cloths , furniture, basically, anything you take when you move). There is also Loss of Use (paying for a rental while repairs take place). You may not get the full limit of the DWL originally, but you can go back for a supplement due to inflation, missed line items etc later. Get the Lion's Share now!

The most important part of this post******. Know what your limits are for each coverage and any overages that are available ( This is super important: There is likely extra money available for debris removal, code upgrade and the house limit itself ( 25-50%) are on most policies. The form with all the limit amounts is called "The Declaration Sheet" This is critical. Get your Dec Sheet!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Know the limits before the estimate happens.. The Carrier will send it by mail when you file a claim. Don't throw away this "junk mail".. This is the primary bit of information that a public adjuster is trying to obtain.

Gather photos to document what was in the house for who ever is writing the estimate. Cell phones are great for this: x mas picture with a kitchen in the background etc. Make a rudimentary sketch for house layout with windows, doors, etc.

Don't worry about the rebuild cost at this point. Just gotta get everything that the policy has. This is what you've paid insurance for your whole life. This is no "fender-bender".

Once you have all the money, then you and he decide to rebuild or scape the lot and sell the land or sell the land as is.

Public Adjusters are convenient but they can take 15-40% of your settlement. Not necessary if you are willing to work a bit. If you want "hands off", then a PA is not a horrible deal. They will clean the policy limit but they take their cut.. NOTE: Personal Property is the most tedious part of the claim ( inventory lists suck!!)-- Carriers bank on the fact the most people just give up after the T.V, fridge, bed are claimed..). If you can find a PA that handles just the contents, that might be a good deal to avoid mind numbing pain..

I've been in the industry my whole career one way or another. I'm happy to offer advice or coaching if anyone would like. PM me.
Great post! I'm on this industry as well. All great points. I will say if you can do the work without a PA then do it. From the contractor side I have no desire to work with PAs. Everything is about then making money and it drags the process out and it's takes the contractor forever to get paid.

We do total loss inventory, including asbestos total loss inventory. They are a pain but essential.

Wait till they get ahold of RDP claims services rolling onto the scene. 😂

We’d be the group with cold beer in the cooler for the victims.

Anybody got a Schiada on a triple axle trailer to complete the look for static display(obviously, everybody knows that rhe Schiada isnt gonna get wet).

😂

Ah Lake…

I had family in san marino. We used to get off the 210 at Lake. Then south. My favorite burger place with beer battered onion rings was on Lake.

Is Wolf Burger still a thing?

(hope this isn’t too insensitive— but damm— Wolf Burger…)
Yes still there

Samaritins Purse.

And consider hiring a drone pilot to fly the property and photo everything from the house, sidewalks, driveway, pools, ponds, landscape and fence line. All of this is insured.

When the state comes theough and Bull dozes, its all gone.
