ā€œTheyā€ is not what you see.
The actual group and/ individuals doing it are blanketing the internetā€¦while they sleep. In the old days we bought mailing lists targeting certain demographics to solicit things, nowadays itā€™s all digital.
If just one idiot clicks the links itā€™s a win, then if they actually volunteer PII, itā€™s a bonus win!
They make lists and sell the PII at the minimum (to legit information companies) and fraudulently exploit the financial info at worst.
How many times have we seen members bewildered by the fact that when they talk about things or look at products online they start seeing specific ads?
Itā€™s not magic, itā€™s not supernatural, and itā€™s not a conspiracy. Thatā€™s marketing in todays world.
Every single persons email attached to this site is on the dark web, for instance. (Thatā€™s not really a big deal though, I myself have various alias emails attached and multiple TOR logins across the web)
Members are always saying ā€œthis doesnā€™t happen on other sitesā€ā€¦ever wonder why that really is?
But hey, what do I know?
Iā€™m just paranoidā€¦and ranked 5th in my companies online security ratings in a workforce of over 200 people.

Only 9 posts on the front page of the lounge when you hit ignore. I think the allotment is 50.

Maybe Dave wants it that way?

There doesn't seem to be any meaningful or effeciltive response for the number of times the issue has been raised.
Maybe Dave could set up Their own section so it does not spill into the rest of the website like the P&Gā€¦. šŸ¤£ šŸ¤£ šŸ¤£ šŸ¤£

Couldn't this be fixed if you had to make an introductory post in the newbie forum and have it approved before you posted anywhere else? I've seen this done on several platforms. Race-dezert is one example. The gun forum I'm on is another.

There are several ways to "fix" this, they all either inconvenience the current members, the moderators, or the new members.

It seems like we need a semi-retired moderator who lives on the east coast and gets up early....

I manage numerous Xenforo forums, and every new member is set to a manual approval queue for the first few posts, until we are allowed to vet them. With this practice, we have eliminated 99.9% of the spammers and bots.

Do they ad to the total user count? Which is good for advertising rates.

Does this forum software come with a "you can't start a thread unless you have x amount of posts"?
