All has been sold!

After talking to my engine builder, I have some parts for sale. If you are looking to work on your 496, this is a good opportunity to get some good parts. Here is what I have:

8.1l block - 4.25 bore in good shape
raylar forged pistons for this bore - made by autotek
205 camshaft - very boat friendly with only about 1-2' of overlap. .630 lift
hydraulic lifters
ported stock 8.1l intake. Good for about 15-25 hp over a non-ported one at rpm. The baffle inside has been removed. THrottle body opening has been opened up as well and some welding to add material around the neck of the intake so that you can use much larger throttle bodies with an adapter or a 85mm as is. Stock is 78mm. THis intake was not ported by raylar but is similar to what they do as far as cutting out the baffle and opening up the throttle body. Not going to win any beauty contests but it works.

I bought the raylar 511" short block after being torn down and inspected and I already had the intake sitting in my garage. I'm carrying over the crank and rods to my new setup. The rest is listed in this ad. No heads included. IF you wanted to complete this you could ehter use your stock crank and appropriate length rod, or you could buy a 4.5" dart stroker crank for $600 and the corresponding rods. People have a lot of issues with the pistons of the 496 if they throw more power at them so this will help with that.

You're welcome to come check this stuff out. I'm located in Mission Viejo, CA (south oc). $1800. If you really insist on getting the 4.50" crank and corresponding rods as well (scat/raylar) then I'll sell everything for $3000. You'd just need heads and valvetrain to complete.

Hi, I know it’s been 2 years. Is any of this still available? If so, are pistons and bores okay or does block need any other work before reassembly? I may be interested, but would need to ship.

No worries, I was reaching out on a wing and a prayer. I’ve got a motor to tear down that’s okay but your parts and block would have made things easy. On intake, I have a stock one that I’d like to improve much in the same way you did yours. Is this a straight forward modification that a machine shop can handle? Thanks

I’m sure many shops could do it. If you go on the 8.1l Facebook group, there is a guy out of ca that modifies them and them sells them. I want to say they run about $550. I can hunt him down and pass along the contact info if you’d like to grab one.

Hi, Sorry to bother you again. I know you don't have parts for sale, but just wanted to get your opinion. I've decided to go down the rabbit hole on my 496ho rebuild and will be adding Raylar's aluminum heads and one of their cams. I see that you've had the raylar 205 cam and heads on the motor you sold. Do you know whether the stock ho fuel system can support the 205 cam, raylar intake and aluminum heads and run on 87 or 89 octane (I think compression ratio is higher, possibly 10:1, on the raylar heads)? I plan to install O2 sensors to monitor and tweak the A/F ratio. At some point, I will have the pcm tuned. I'll stick to the 203 cam if the 205 is pushing the limits. Just wanted to see if you might know. Motor will have forged pistons with adequate clearance should I go that route. Thanks

No I never got my setup running- just collected parts. I still have the shortblock and will likely put that to use someday but I’m months away. I think we’re already talking on the fb 496 forum
