Did you know Lexus and Toyota are both built here in the US today? BMW and MB both are building a few models here too.

Yes. At least they are providing jobs. But the profits still go out of this country.

I've owned several "vintage" BMW's... They cost me no more or less than any other used car to own.

I spun my own wrenches but even then it wasn't any more than I've done on any domestic car.

OEM parts are expensive, but so are OEM Honda parts... LOL...

Lexus cars I find boring to drive, to much Toyota in them. Same with Honda's. They are appliances, no more or less.

If I were to own another sports sedan it'd be a Bavarian model. My $.02...

I'd be taking a good long look at a Kia Stinger GT. 10yr 100k mile warranty, pretty quick drivetrain setup and a really attractive looking car IMO

Where do you think the money goes? Yep back to Toyota in Japan. And bmw in the motherland. They are not American companies. Period.

Dan'l

The stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange, I own a lot of Toyota stock as do millions of Americans. The profits on American made Toyota’s are paid to the stock holders, me! And I’m an American!

Truth is, we have basically taken Toyota away from the Japanese.

No way the 3 7’s combined with one being a B7 is cheaper than an 80k truck.

I paid 55K, 25K, and 12K for all three. A new F 350 or F450 Platinum is more so I still have my old truck as a pull tug, a new Tacoma for my son and a Lexus SUV that my wife runs daily.

If you don't care about having "as much luxury and or performance" then you will not beat a Honda Accord or Toyota Camery. They have been the best selling cars in America for 30 years for a reason. Go to any city and see what the uber guys are running with 300K "toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai).

I’ve been looking for something similar for my wife. I was really leaning towards a Mercedes or BMW but after talking to several friends that have owned both recently I’m not going to own anything German for the time being. Lots of problems, one friend was on the highway in stop and go traffic and her Benz automatically shifted into reverse and backed into the car behind her.

My wife will be getting a new Lexus ES. Being that it snows here I’m leaning towards the ES250 since the ES350 is FWD only now. If we lived in California I’d opt for the 350 but I think the AWD is a must have for us. I’m going to do a lease, right now they’re offering a deal $399 a month for 36 months which seems like a steal for a $45K car.

Have not been in the market for a sedan in quite sometime. The Nissan Maxima was a nice car in its category back in the day

We have gone the Camry route. Just purchased a 2020 in March and it is my wife's third Camry. Yes, she likes them that much. We opted for the 4 cylinder this time as we drive from so.cal to Havasu pretty much every weekend and at 38 MPG, that's a lot of extra gas for the toys. I miss the V6 of our last Camry and as stated it's kinda boring, but you can't beat it for reliability and economy.

Bunch of friends trying to get me to go Lexus. I honestly think from the exterior, the Camry looks just as nice. I'm sure the fit and finish inside is where the difference will shine. But then I start comparing the Lexus to the Cadi... I walked through the Volvo dealer and honestly just wasn't that impressed with the center console. Way to rectangular and I think it kind of takes away from the rest of the interior. We'll see.

Test drive both and I can almost guarantee you’ll go with the Lexus. I don’t like the interior in the Camry, even with the top of the line package I think there is something about them that feels cheap. The Lexus handles a little better and is quieter inside as well.

Camry TRD model with the 300hp V6 is a pretty sweet looking car, and its fun to drive.

Yes. At least they are providing jobs. But the profits still go out of this country.

Countries generally aren’t investors.
Profits don’t “go to Japan” any more than Ford profits “go to America”.

These are publicly traded companies, profits go to shareholders.
Buy some stocks, they can go to you, too.

Some automakers have large families that own large chunks - Ford, Agnelli (FCA), Quandt (BMW).

VW actually has some government ownership (German state of Lower Saxony), plus some a lot of ownership by the Porsche and Piech families.

Thought experiment:
What’s more American...a Chevy designed and built in South Korea, a Ram designed in America and built in Mexico, or a Toyota designed and built in America?

This x1000

BMW is a lease only vehicle.

Anything by GM is crap, and the service will be even worse.

Dodge? Really? Even bigger crap than GM! Lol

Lexus has Always been the best bang for the buck. And probably always will be.

Note: I worked for BMW for 9 years and Lexus for 5 years.
You calling the LS / RWD platform vehicles crap never ceases to amaze me lol

No hybrid...Just the 4cyl...I get 38 mpg with no traffic and 36-37mpg with some traffic on the 15. Cruise set at 82 most of the way.

Why limit your vehicle choice to 4 Door Sedans for a commuter car? For example, you can pick up a 2021 Camaro SS/LT1 for under 35K. A lot more fund to drive than a Camry Hybrid, lol.

The thousands of employees that work there, might see it a bit differently than you.
You have to realize cars are not built anymore. They are Assembled.

Did you know Dodge uses a ZF transmission these days? And where do you think the electronics come from? America? Think again! Lol

You do know where the big bad Duramax, opps, I mean Izusu comes from don't you?

Any car assembled anywhere these days has components from all over the world.

There probably hasn't been an american built car since the 60's my man.

They are all assembled here. Yet, some suck ass, and some don't? Go figure. 😉

I’d wager the super duty’s are the closest to being almost all US products , but Ford went BLM and they can kiss my ass now too. Lol

Spot on.

Vintage BMW's were some of the best cars ever. The E39 330 might be the best car ever built period!

I drive an E46 330ci. I absolutely love that car. 👍

Everyone has gone BLM, and we both know why! Lol

Ford is almost all US built. And the ONLY truck that uses its own engine and trans. The other 2 couldn't figure it out.

Surprised to notice a couple RDPers, known for relatively conservative leanings ;) recommending or considering Volvos given it's owned by Geely Automobile / Holdings of China for the past 10 years.

It's a russian bride......Put your deposit down and enjoy for 3 years
Get rid of it before it takes your house and bank account!

Agree!

But that's only due to the horrid electronics that BMW uses. As far as power trains go?

The ol pushrod engine can't even come close. And let not even talk about the suspension. Good gawd what a joke the GM platform is.

Did GM step up to a ZF trans, like Dodge did these days? At least Dodge did Something right! :p

Call me when the DOHC Beemer mill becomes a record breaker or a world wide swap phenomenon.....i'll wait
Better yet - buy one out of warranty and let me know how it goes?

Are you really bragging about Dodge running an 8 speed? Lol

GM and Ford use the exact same 10 speed trans in their trucks. 😉

I’ve yet to see another full size SUV that gets the same real world fuel mileage as a pushrod powered Tahoe.

The truck trans are not ZF. Both are nearly identical, they just run their own shift calibrations.

Oh wait, nevermind...

An all-new Ford-designed and Ford-built 10-speed heavy-duty TorqShift® automatic transmission is paired with the 7.3-liter V8 and third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke® diesel V8.

So GM trucks are using an Izusu engine and a Ford transmission??

Bwahahahahahaha!!!

You just made my day!!! 😁

that's the HD version. The half ton version in the f150, navigator, silverado and tahoe/burb were co-designed between the two companies. For the HD trucks, ford grew everything by about 30% but same basic architecture, GM did something similar but with Allison involvement so they could keep the name

Safety, comfort and workhorse that actually has resale value- don't overlook a Subaru Outback. There's not much I haven't driven and this one rates right up there with the best of the best in overall quality and comfort. Add that this is our farm delivery vehicle that lives down a 6 mile dirt road- it's insane the amount of abuse this thing takes and still has zero squeaks and rattles. Overall mileage is respectable at 30 but acceleration falls off a bit when we have two whole steers stuffed in it for mid winter deliveries😁.
CPO with 11000 miles, we were less than 27k out the door.

They both co-developed the 10speed.
And Ford had such a stellar record with the 6.0 and 6.4 they needed the help :)

Great year...Same vintage as his 7.3 :D
We are just scratching the surface here, I think we are on to something....
This same 80's GM remembrance may be the root of his perspective , a litmus test of performance if you will. Take the statement "my 7.3 pulls like a beast" - Compared to said 1983 Malibu, this is a true statement.

Let's not forget GM's original mid engine hot rod before the new Corvette......:oops:

Half ton? Who in the hell would drive one of those?? Men are talking about real trucks here. Not toys.

The rest of you boneheads are funny. Anyone besides me worked at a dealership lately?

No? Just a bunch of Hotrod Magazine reading keyboard warriors? That don't have a clue what a callus is?

Oh I know...

You guys all have an Awesome set of tools though, right?

Don't hurt yourselves typing ya all!
