$35.5 Million for Freedom Bridge Approved (2nd Havasu Island Bridge)

We are in the Windsor beach condos and they just sent us this paperwork about the second bridge a couple weeks ago

$35M won’t get the environmental impact study done, the feasibility study, the endangered grass study, or the assembly of 15 exploratory groups to talk about the project. $100M precon, and $150M to build it.

The biggest positive that I can hope for is that the new bridge isn’t tall enough for the casino boat and havasu landing will have to find a new place to park and pick up the gamblers

I don't have a crystal ball, but I did watch a video presentation that had about 7 bridge configurations and 5 or 6 road options and it seemed quite legit. It was a middle priced bridge with a roundabout at Mccolloch and after crossing the channel went North across state park land to Palo Verde. It seemed to be what the State Park, A-DOT and the city all were all wanting and was within the budget.

Over drinks last night, I think my wife and I decided our Havasu boating days are limited. If we did not have the kid, we might of called it after this year. Only reason we keep going, is for the kid!

What drives this?

From a guy who’s first trip was 2003 and have maintained some presence every year since, some more than others, I made the final move and will have no house, storage, boat, etc. in Havasu at the end of the month. It feels like I’m giving up my first born, but it’s just “time”. The town/lake don’t check the boxes like they once did. It’s bitter sweet, but I’m conflicted on the whole thing for sure.

The heat is the main reason.
April, May, then late Sept through October are the only months we still enjoy it.

You can always come back, and you might. I'm thankful we broke our cycle of doing the same recreational activities every holiday when our kids were teens. Stopped doing the same offroading events every holiday, sold the trailer at Kathrine Landing, shifted gears for many years, now as emptynesters we are building back our program. LHC in the winter is really enjoyable. We never knew that when we were younger.

In so far as the bridge, we are all smart enough to know it is more about development, than current transportation issues. I think the money from the state would be much better served on maintenance of aging infrastructure, than building a bridge so developers can profit. You can bet you're ass if you follow the money, much of it is likely wealth transfer via crony capitalism.

Main reason we transitioned from the ToyHauler to an RV, is to allow us to explore the country and not be locked down.
Could we do that with the ToyHauler yes, but after 7 years it was time for a change. Desert trips were getting very limited and summer trips away from the Islander were not occurring. It took to much to move the trailer on and off the spot in the summer. In the desert, it took 90 minutes to two hours to setup the ToyHauler and/or pack and my wife was getting frustrated with that program.

Summers with our daughter are limited (HS class of 2030), so we are going to limit boating next year and get on the road and see the country for a few weeks each summer. Plus I want to take my daughter to see the cabin my great grandfather built in Wi in 1913.

I believe they just built the new bullhead bridge for 17 mil. So it can be done

I started to get a little burned out when the twins were born in 2016. It was a lot of work. Wife and I ended up renting the house out to snowbirds to help offset the mortgage cost. Then in the summer we would only go once because it was so hot. We ended up selling the house and boat back in 2019/20 to help fund the purchase of our long term (not going to say "forever") home. After a 5-year break, we find ourselves really missing Havasu and boating. The twins are going to be 8 and we are really looking forward to purchasing another boat to start having family trips again. for you, I think we all get into a routine, and it takes the excitement away. It almost becomes a chore. maybe you need to change it up a bit. Trim the herd and go back to the basics.

If all goes as planned soon, we will have a new to us family boat. This time around we want to travel to other lakes too. Powel and Mohave for sure. I would even like to get up to Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana lakes. We are not in a hurry to buy any real estate this time around. Every time we take the boat out it will be a VACATION! well hopefully......

Are they going to keep with the old school London bridge design or something different? I feel for the Kingsview condo people. Gonna suck to have that view wrecked. It’s gotta be a pretty tall bridge to let the Casino boat through.

The recommended bridge was # 4, it has 3 arches in its length with 2 flared supports, and looks fairly nice, but not rustic like the original bridge. I'm kind of computer illiterate and don't know how to link, but you can watch the entire public proposal on YOUTUBE, just type in Lake Havasu new bridge proposal.

The way I’m looking at that cluster fuck is that everyone is going to have to go through the traffic circle through realignment I don’t think there’s going to be a direct route to either bridge without going through the roundabout on the island. Fucking brain, dead traffic engineers.

I would imagine they’re designed large enough for semi trucks. The island still needs to be serviced by large vehicles whether it’s to deliver building/construction supplies or just to service the resorts.

Hopefully, it’s a very large roundabout like wheeler park up on McCulloch. I think that drawing is just a generic deal. Or at least I hope.

Then again, if they use the same engineering firm that designed the ones on 93 around Wickenburg, we are fucked!

I have used a round-about with my 43' Moho and 24' stacker with no issues. It just needs to be a larger round-about. Semi's need to deliver goods on the island so it won't be an issue.

I'm onboard for this idea. Some people just have nothing better to do than complain.
