And with the Riveria Marina, I am not sure this bridge is even needed anymore.
I get the emergency response concern but IMO those that developed the houses on the island should of paid for a bridge :)
Agreed this should have been handled 20 years ago. Especially when the city is willing to collect property taxes while not proportionately upgrading the infrastructure.

agreed. but i do not see havasu support a 500 million bridge whatsoever.
Well hold on I thought we were getting a deal at 35 lol.

The entire city was planned using circles rather than a grid lol. Lake Havasu City planning always seems to be reactionary rather than thinking for the future. Rivera & Foothills being the exception.

But 1970s Havasu isn’t even close to todays havasu. I’m sure in its day the bridge was going to “last forever”. But the size of boats, vehicles and volume of people has increased exponentially.

Havasu can’t get infrastructure projects done?? Say it isn’t so!! 🤣

The bridge is not for weekenders using the Marina. The island is gonna be full of houses in the near future.. a 3 lane road in and out likely isn’t going to cut it.

They kicked the can down the road this far because it isn’t needed yet.

The bottleneck is not the bridge.
More arteries to the clog solves nothing.
Agreed. But it’s the only spot that could really jam up EMS if they needed to get across. Everywhere else they have center dividers, sidewalks, dirt lots etc.

The Foothill Estates area seems to be much in need of a second way to get in and out of there. Is there something already in the works?

Fire, EMS response time......
There is federal law in place regarding response times to expanding areas.
Alternative option, build another firehouse on the island. More jobs.
I think that would be the most beneficial to the island.

$35 Million for a bridge from Hwy 95 to the Island? Seriously - Thats a joke!!! I think they left a 1 out of the number. It's going to closer to $135 Million when finished. This only benefits homes & businesses on the Island so anything over $35 Million should be paid by them. J/S

I wonder if they’ll need to dam off both ends of the channel and drain it while they construct the footings and columns? If so, Havasu will be a cluster fuck for quite some time during construction

They would not have to do that...they can drill from a barge, or drive sheet pyles from a barge. The water would probably be really low during those times though.

Could someone hide behind these pyles and shoot passerby with water cannons?

Asking for a friend.

Did you already put a deposit on the new Speed water gun? The bridge will be done and built, so anchor up and fire away! 🤪

The answer is yes!

The part of the channel where this is proposed is narrow. They would probably be able to span the distance without any pilings.

Just do a typical box girder bridge, they probably would want to avoid a center pier. This bridge is 230ish feet with no center pier.

Why when the state approved the spend?

What happens when it goes on for a decades without being completed as everything in Havasu does?
I'm a little late getting back to the party, but the city had no idea the money was going to become available through the state when the idea of second bridge was first talked about.
When you set up a fee or assessment for a future project that money must be used for the intended purpose. Why the fee? that's what real cities do, they plan for getting the money themselves. If the state representative can also help you out, great.
I don't really know what the fee should have been, but probably only a thousand dollars or so when the first $ 200,000 houses were built, now that they're mostly 1-2 million quite a bit more. Developer fees are an everyday occurrence, if a future buyer feels that they don't want to pay them, they can choose to buy elsewhere.

They island is close to max on city water, sewage and power.
They need a bridge to get more of this. It will be in the design
Without it the island can't go BIG.

I don’t want the island to go big. I like it how it is.
I'm the same. Traffic on the bridge can be tough, but on select times of the year.
IF, if EMS was that big of a problem they could get creative with lane closure devices. Crossing bars, red lights. There's always a way to stop at least one lane

Or build a land and water FD station at site 6 and send all those folks to the other marinas

$35M won’t get the environmental impact study done, the feasibility study, the endangered grass study, or the assembly of 15 exploratory groups to talk about the project. $100M precon, and $150M to build it.
That's way too high. We (Victorville) just built a 600 foot long bridge across the BNSF RR tracks called The Green Tree Extension. New route from VV to Apple Valley that crosses the Mojave River. 47 million and took 2 years, including attaching 2 large intersections. That included EIR, Desert Tortoise and endangered Joshua Trees.

I’ve been going to havasu for literally all
My life….. 40 years. I can’t ever remember a time we had to sit in a traffic jam across the bridge. Am I just missing something? Maybe a couple minute wait? And yes we always launch at the marina, always used to stay at beachcomber since I was 7/8 yrs old. Stayed at nautical about 315 times. Lol. Never ever thought……, they really need another bridge. Now I get the “locals” consider 4 cars a traffic jam. But what a waste of revenue. As far as I know locals don’t even go over the bridge…..

But when you do… It’s always from somebody who already has a place on the island.;)
I am pretty sure that’s the mantra of any resort town that’s ever been conceived. I got mine, now shut it down and limit growth. 🤣

I’m surprised no one has brought up the lady who was selling bricks for the second bridge, I think that was in the early or mid 80s, eventually, she packed up and left town I believe, maybe somebody could look up the story.

no to the bridge.... I heard that this will then be followed by electrical upgrades and sewer additions... ALL to make room for more homes and another huge RV resort that would be located on the old golf course at Nautical....... no new bridge please

In the back drop, Indians are buying up land to build a casino on the Island.🤔

I liked it how it was with a very convenient airport. A short golf cart ride from your Lear 25 to the Islander or Site Six.
That was years and years ago :)

Over drinks last night, I think my wife and I decided our Havasu boating days are limited. If we did not have the kid, we might of called it after this year. Only reason we keep going, is for the kid!

What drives this?

From a guy who’s first trip was 2003 and have maintained some presence every year since, some more than others, I made the final move and will have no house, storage, boat, etc. in Havasu at the end of the month. It feels like I’m giving up my first born, but it’s just “time”. The town/lake don’t check the boxes like they once did. It’s bitter sweet, but I’m conflicted on the whole thing for sure.

The heat is the main reason.
April, May, then late Sept through October are the only months we still enjoy it.
