Don’t add DEF randomly, only put it in when it gets to about 25%. I had a 2011 6.6 Duramax and it was noted that if you keep topping it off the DEF goes bad and it’ll throw trouble codes. If you top it up when it gets low it’ll keep it “fresh” and keep the trouble codes away.

The Ford guys swear by the 10 speed. Lots of great reviews amongst the groups. Only complaint I have seen is that it shifts a lot.

Hope it doesn't become a POS because my Armada was the best truck I have ever owned. 135k miles and that thing never had an issue. I wanted a new Armada but the same Ole gas hogging V8, didn't make sense.
The only vehicle I have heard of any issues with it before this thread was in the Explorer, but I think it's repackaged to fit in there.

That 10 speed has been put into every Ford and GM car and truck for about the last 5 years it seems. These are the first systemic issues I'm hearing about.

My dad has the Alison branded version (essentially the same Trans) in his truck and has had zero complaints.

Got a buddy with a 1500, lifted 35" tires, 3.0 diesel, looks nice. My 1500 is very similar but I have the 6.2. Tell you what, I get the bad gas mileage, but I leave that truck in the dust every time.
No comparison compared to the gasser. I drove a gasser after driving the diesel it had the 6.2 and it hauled ass.

Pretty much what Bowtie said. Get it on the freeway when possible and run it for regen's. Stay on top of oil changes and fuel filters. I usually replace mine sooner then recommended.

I had the 6.2 in an escalade and it was just a nightmare and there ton's of threads of engine failures. Fuel milage was horrible since mine didn't have the cylinder deactivation option on it. Talked to LBZRCKS and he has a 3.0 Escalade also and he sold me on it. I purchased one in november and love it! Can't tell it's a diesel imo, great fuel milage and don't really notice power difference between the 6.2 and the 3.0. If I were to buy a 1500 pickup tomorrow I would get it with the 3.0 without a doubt.

Just keep the DEF topped off and drive it. It averages about ~1 gallon per 1k miles. My wife does plenty of short commutes taking and typical socal traffic and knock on wood it's been a great vehicle.

Like @Doc said if I were to give up my 2500HD I'd buy a half ton with the 3.0 as well.

Looked at Connell Chevrolet, they have one, $64500 with 2k dealer mark up, so much for the too much inventory from all the guys on Social media preach.

my initial order from sept 2022 has been finished since late december / early Jan w/ a VIN... and still sitting in a lot in Indiana today.

got tired of waiting and luckily caught one in the same color I ordered a few weeks ago

Just got the call. It is arriving today. Got our financing lined up and they are sending a driver to deliver it to us either later today or tomorrow. White glove service from Jay at Costa Mesa GMC.

Nice! Jay is the man... he is who I ended up getting mine through (not my initial order). Crazy how some orders ship out, and some sit at the manufacturers lots

Minimal searching will turn up a gang of information. Search 10R80 issues, problems, class action lawsuit

He does the same for me also. He brings my stuff to SD every time. I never even step foot in the dealership.

Funny thing is, I did just search for "GM 10R80 transmission issues" and the only results that came up are in Ford vehicles and a class action about it against Ford.

I agree, but I hate the chrome. I'd probably do an RST since they don't have the 3.0 in the Z71. I hope they drop the Denali infotainment in the other trims
Agree on the chrome

I like the chrome. Old school cool 😎

Black emblems, front clip and 1/4 hood PPF, driver / passenger tint with sun strip and that's it.

Wife's b day is Monday. She doesn't know it's here. Going to be a nice surprise when they deliver.

So isn’t it true that diesel MPG gets better from mile 1 when you buy it and start driving it? So for asking for MPG numbers maybe wait until like the first 4-6K miles and then give us MPG?

As I moved away from the Duramax and went to the dark side (2022 Ram Ecodiesel) knowing I wasn't going to delete anything on this diesel. I did some research on DEF. Probably the biggest take away is this stuff does not have much of a shelf life especially in hot weather. Being in Phoenix during the summer months I only keep it full enough for 4-6 weeks of driving and then I add enough to go another 4-6 weeks. So far no issues.

from Upland to Willow Valley, wife followed me while I was pulling trailer, running 70-75 and sat in traffic until about the 138
2021 2 wheel drive, I'll post when she gets home later in week with round trip including around town

Ask him what it cost and you’ll sober right up 🤣

That mileage gain to cost ratio is almost to the point of making sense. Pretty cool.
I expense my miles so it will offset a big chunk of getting a better commuter car, plus keeps miles off the truck.

Stop talking to me about this fucking truck engine you aren’t helping 😊

So does mine and I drive a lot for work…. However, I’ve done the math over and over again hoping it would make sense but I’m still saving a lot of money driving my old 5.3 lol.

averaged 29MPG in the AT4 (33" tires) on the way to soccer practice last night! best I've seen so far. Usually get about 22 on the way back home. Just rolled 800 miles on it... haven't taken it on a longer drive yet so we'll see how that goes soon.

I hope GMC starts putting better audio systems in their trucks, especially Denali trims.

The difference between Denali/Bose, compared to an Escalade with either AKG system, is substantial IMHO.

My wife's 2018 Denali XL. Recently Murdered out after the bumper got a lil too hot at the river .

Love how it looks but hate how un comfortable the interior is. My 2021 Ram is much more usable and comfortable.

Your probably not gonna see 30+ on river trips, unless you have a 2wd truck, all stock, and your driving 65ish
It may be possible, but its not practical or normal unless your pulling out all the stops to get 30mpg, if you know what I mean.
Not true. I have a 2021 elevation 4x4 with stock wheels. I commute 120 miles per day for work on the 10/210 and I average 29-31 mpg doing 75-80. That’s Beaumont to LaVerne so several down hills but mostly up hill going home. Best I’ve seen is right around 700 miles on one tank. My lifetime is averaging 25.7

I agree. The interior is definitely not awesome considering the price tag. Whatever you do, don't sit in an Escalade because you will want one. I am hoping that the uncomfortable interior keeps me awake....lol

My 2015 GMC Yukon is not that bad. Want to upgrade the front buckets to the Escalade seats :). Cheaper then a new one.

Just remember......$70,000 buys ALOT of fuel, and that diesel MPG comes with a multi-faceted price tag.
If you think your doing it for "economic" reasons - keep your current shitbox! :D

  • higher price per gallon, sometimes limited fuel availability
  • DEF
  • more expensive / more frequent air and fuel filter changes
  • much higher potential for breakdowns and failures.
It is what it is. I love diesels as much as the next guy. All the new diesels are bad ass, and great under full warranty.
Id treat them like a BMW - I don't think it'd roll the dice and run one out of warranty.

The performance comes with a price tag, and the potential hidden costs due to issues / service and waaaaaayyyy crazier than a basic gasser.

In the last few years, milage has been more important to me than looks or features on a vehicle. I had bought a 2021 silverado 1500 duramax at the end of 2020 and like anyone would, I sold it because I got $5k more than I paid for it after a year. I bought my bucket list truck (Gen 2 Raptor). I drove it for about 10 months. While it is a fun truck, it was totally impractical for me and got very crappy gas milage (13-15mpg) I wound up going back to the chevy/duramax platform becuase of cost and milage. I looked at the GMC platform and would have loved to go that way, but my local dealers wanted $10k plus more for the same truck in a chevy.
