So here I am, got way too many irons in the fire again...try's my ass off to get all this done before it got too hot... but it didn't work out... the plan was to put new 10'' wide fenders on both the trailers...

so just to be 2FF...everything has to be the hard way on the fugly duck... first off, the axels aren't wide enough.... done this to a bunch of trailers so far... never this issue..and there are no lugs... WTF!!! real men of genius must of thought it to be a good idea to bolts instead of lugs and nuts... bean counter must have saved $0.78 per trailer doing it....they are a bitch on the side of the road to get the first bolt started with custom wheels... so my fix is to add 1'' jeep wheel spacers... that way I'll have wider axels and lugs to mount the wheels... but have to wait for the order to get here

so here's the tire sizes...it came with

205-75-14..26.11 tall
the 225-50-17's....25.86 tall and 8.86 wide..
i'm gonna put'
235-50-17's...26.25 tall...9.25 wide..

the fenders are 10'' wide...I could have went with 9'' wide with the 225's
the 235's will fill the fenders better and be the same as the stock tires for height

I like what your doing. I went with a 10 inch painted fender when I re-did the trailer but kept the 14s. Those 17s look good with that stainless. Keep posting, I'm watching.

I have a trailer that uses bolts instead of studs, such a pita. I did the same thing you’re doing, some 5x4.5 1” spacers and new “bolts”, red loctite on the bolts and voila...studs.

Wow! I'm so glad you posted this. I just bought 11 inch wide fenders from Fenders N More. I guess I'm looking at 17x9 wheels and probably 245's on the tires. I did this to my Daytona, but Extreme did everything for me. I'm on my own this time.

They didn't have any 10's in stock so I took the 11's. Fenders N More is great to deal with. I took some pictures and was planning on starting a thread in case someone wanted a review, but got lazy and in over my head on my lower river project.

OK, what an experience ...that's what you get when you don't get what you want.... I knew I should have just bought new trailers.... got the tires, got the fenders mounted.that was about $3400.00soooo.... while the tires where off... decided to service the trailers....WTF....son's trailer was fucked...metal to metal drums shot... bearings shot...i'm gonna guess that the drums have never been off... ever...so now... another grand out of pocket... my trailer I went ahead and put all new brakes and drums also... I put the drums with the wheel studs so no more lug bolts

I just bought a boat that had been sitting for about 10 years. It's really clean, but I definitely wanted to do the trailer bearings. Did everything and put brake fluid in the hitch as it was dry. Took a quick test drive around the neighborhood just before we were to leave for the river last week...one drum locked up! I removed the brakes for the trip and will be ordering a disc setup. I too was thinking about just welding up a new trailer, but business is busy and I have enough projects.

You should’ve replaced with disc and oil bath or vault hubs , you will be doing those brakes / hubs in a year again .
I don't like the disc brakes, or the oil bath... the set screw comes loose and no more oil...simple worked for me for 40 plus years...doesn't take a whole lotta brakes to stop a 210 trailer...I hate the reverse light wire having to hook up to the surge brakes to back it up...both these boats just had the brakes serviced when we got the boats... guess they do it different in cali....

With a big truck, a smaller boat and good driving technique...brakes are overkill anyway!

So.. what did you both expect when you both bought used boats? New trailers and timely maintenance ( 2FF style) ???????????????????

So I always grew up being told early 90s drum brakes were self adjusting. Is that true? I remember every once in a while the trailer brakes would lock up and they needed to be backed up to adjust.

Current trailer brakes are for looks only lol. 3500 Ram can stop the whole load just fine.

They SHOULD self adjust, but won't if the adjuster gets rusted up.

I think disc and old school grease hubs are the bomb. Had them on my last boat and served me without fail for almost 10 years, without one issue

Yea I don’t know what the deal is. Couple pumps of fresh grease every other trip, and pull them apart every few years to inspect and clean them up.

not at all,.. I wanted to buy two new trailers and not go through all this...trailer manafacture's are working on about a 50 profit margin.so over 20k for two new triple axel trailers..people take their boats in for service, they only take the trailers in when they are broke..I started out just gonna get new tires...lol..I don't even care if the brakes work... just don't want the wheels to fall off
