That’s what I thought would happen when I did it, it didn’t all evaporate. I had about a gallon left after a couple of months.

She said they had pre mixed, I’m curious how the oil would affect the evaporation process.

Haha that reminds me of something my dad would do if it was too hot. I’m not sure what the wires are called, it’s whatever wires connect the indoor unit of the AC to the outdoor unit. It failed, my dad didn’t want to crawl through the attic to run another line in the summer So, he used cat 5 wire or something similar and ran it all around the backyard to the garage. It was like that for years until Robert realized what he did and finally re ran the wires through the attic. My dad was like, “it worked.”

I found this thread and sent it to Robert. I’m sure he will have fun reading it on his lunch break. It’s also his birthday today, maybe I’ll buy him something that says it’s only a “2 hour install time.” I’m not allowed to buy gifts for toys anymore. The last one was an auxiliary gas tank because I was paranoid about the small red tanks leaking on the RZR. I’m pretty sure he was going to divorce me that weekend during the install. he loves it now though!

Maybe I should just stick with ordering eliminator towels…

It is escalating quickly. The carpet has moved up to the “must have” list. He’s been working a lot this week, so he hasn’t been home to do anything yet. As soon as it cools down a bit, he should be home more to work on it a few nights a week.

Haha, I’ll remind him of that. I’m going to blame that on my dad. He really didn’t know what to do with a daughter. He would just yell out a tool and I prayed I got the right tool to him or else I was going to dodge a wrench!

Haha I do have a comfy shop chair. He was all over the place last night with projects and randomly decided he was going to rip out the carpet when he got frustrated with another project. I wish I was sitting last night. I was on the wire wheel. We need to go to Home Depot to find some adhesive remover and more wire wheels.

The new mistress is getting more expensive than me haha. I’m starting to think that when I got to pick which was the “his and her boat” that I messed up picking the Howard.

I would never own a boat with carpet in the bilge. Its tough to clean and holds moisture which in returns accelerates rot. The balsa floor is a visually nice and worth shining up and showing off.

If you want balsa floors stop immediately w/ the wire wheels.

Clean all the glue off and then see what you’re working with. Then decide what direction you want to go.

Sand paper. The finer the better, the courser it takes to get rid of the glue, the longer it will take to polish. You are basically polishing the floor.

Sorry, I don't have a good answer for glue removal. You could try mineral spirits or similar to soften then a rigid plastic scraper?
I've only used wire wheels on non balsa w/ carpet going back down.
Sorry no pix either.
We have progressed beyond my usefulness here haha so I will quietly sit aside and observe.
I just wanted to caution you on the wire wheel, especially if using a knotted wheel. It will go thru layers of glass quickly. The wire, crimp type or knotted will be very abrasive on the resin very quickly and create deep scratches that have to be sanded out to not show creating that much more, expense etc. The glass is thin over the balsa, easily burned through.

It's going to take a lot of work being careful not to damage the glass and resin on top of the balsa. The glass in those areas isn't thick. The last thing you want to do is damage the glass above the balsa. The only fix for that type of mistake is a truckload of dollar bills. Slow, painstaking scraping and lots of patience. But the end result could be beautiful if done correctly.

I have done that exact job on a DCB 21. Gasoline will melt the glue, a little fumey but got the job done. then 3m finess-it on a foam wheel. Mine came out puss.

How i did mine, gel coated the bilge and sides of the tunnels, will be carpet on the outer gunnels in front of the tanks

Oh How I miss my Daytona. Definitely don’t carpet the bilge area. I gel coated the whole area white. It was some maintenance to keep it white! Balsa looks bad ass but didn’t go with mine. I opted to carpet the rest from the backseat forward. This is the only bilge area pic I have.

It’s required when you’re buddies with Kevin at CSU Carbs. I preferred the KISS method also. I had a MSD 7531 on it along with an O2 sensor that logged data. It was a pain in the ass to put the laptop on it, so I rarely did. Fuel injection and tuning would have required more work initially that I did t want to hassle with. It was a family boat after all

I would love to have either of mine back. 95 with a 2.5 offshore(sprayed by gelcoater) and the 94 with a 300x(DCB rigged, this was the one I pulled the carpet out of)

After looking at the floors more- the right side seems like someone may have already tried this in the past? The corner edging seems much different the left side. Rougher, not as smooth. I know there’s still adhesive on, but it really looks different to me then just the carpet backing and glue. Or, my eyes are tired. It doesn’t appear to have any shine/gloss like the left side does.

Edit- never mind. My arms and mind are tired. Robert lightly sanded the area and it looks the same now.
