Put the old fuel in 5 gallon buckets about 1/2 full and sit them in the sun…should take a day or 2 to evaporate all of it
That’s what I thought would happen when I did it, it didn’t all evaporate. I had about a gallon left after a couple of months.

She said they had pre mixed, I’m curious how the oil would affect the evaporation process.

It’s ok, our two living room fans are also wired with an extension cord run through the attic. People do the weirdest bootleg shit 🤷‍♂️
I’m thinking it was a quick fix to save the weekend and they just forgot about it or said f it, it works lol.

Haha that reminds me of something my dad would do if it was too hot. I’m not sure what the wires are called, it’s whatever wires connect the indoor unit of the AC to the outdoor unit. It failed, my dad didn’t want to crawl through the attic to run another line in the summer So, he used cat 5 wire or something similar and ran it all around the backyard to the garage. It was like that for years until Robert realized what he did and finally re ran the wires through the attic. My dad was like, “it worked.”

I never wanted a windshield on my 21’ but he said he could make me one if I wanted.

Thank you guys. Now I’m thinking that’s going to fall to the bottom of the list after he made his list.

I’m a little paranoid and we border Pomona so I want the gas gone lol. I put it up on offer up and it looks like a Gardner might take it. If not, the 24th is our next hazard collection day

I found this thread and sent it to Robert. I’m sure he will have fun reading it on his lunch break. It’s also his birthday today, maybe I’ll buy him something that says it’s only a “2 hour install time.” I’m not allowed to buy gifts for toys anymore. The last one was an auxiliary gas tank because I was paranoid about the small red tanks leaking on the RZR. I’m pretty sure he was going to divorce me that weekend during the install. 😂 he loves it now though!

Maybe I should just stick with ordering eliminator towels…

Oh boy, this is escalating quickly!! 😂

I am addicted to fixing shit up perfect and selling it. I am insane and I think I have finally realized it. I pass the torch on to others now. No more projects!

Youre gonna love your new hot rod. I wish my wife was even 1% interested as much as you are in our hobby. She just DOES not care and Robert is a lucky dude!

It is escalating quickly. The carpet has moved up to the “must have” list. He’s been working a lot this week, so he hasn’t been home to do anything yet. As soon as it cools down a bit, he should be home more to work on it a few nights a week.

Haha, I’ll remind him of that. I’m going to blame that on my dad. He really didn’t know what to do with a daughter. He would just yell out a tool and I prayed I got the right tool to him or else I was going to dodge a wrench!

This thread might have to be moved to the restoration section.

The guys figured out why it wasn’t firing- a relay was corroded. They just pulled one off a truck and it fired right away. So now the fun begins…

Where is the best place to order wire from?

Try wirecare.com, Mike Finnegan is always promoting them on his YouTube channel Finnegan’ Garage.

WireCare rocks! Mike turned me onto them when I bought the boat from him. They have everything you need for wiring.

After them, my go-to is McMaster!

Are you going to lake test the boat before doing all that work?

I’m not sure he will. He doesn’t like the wiring, so he doesn’t trust it.
I think he was on the boat the last time his friend had it out years ago.

Looking thru some old pics I just found this 21 Daytona with 2.5 OB. Anyone know who owned this in 1993?
That's out in front of Copper Canyon

Funny you posted this. I grabbed a pic on Saturday at Fisher's Landing while flying my drone of what appears to be the same exact boat.

Oh, it's only just begun. The first of many many late nights....do u have a comfortable chair out there while you keep him company? Lol
So how do you like your new mistress? Haha
Haha I do have a comfy shop chair. He was all over the place last night with projects and randomly decided he was going to rip out the carpet when he got frustrated with another project. I wish I was sitting last night. I was on the wire wheel. We need to go to Home Depot to find some adhesive remover and more wire wheels.

The new mistress is getting more expensive than me haha. I’m starting to think that when I got to pick which was the “his and her boat” that I messed up picking the Howard.

That’s how my first Daytona was. Spent so many nights to expose the Balsa floors. Then had to Flo-Coat it. It’s was months before I was working on anything above the water line.
So, the original plan was to replace it with grey carpet. Robert wanted the floor and sides completely cleaned up the glue even though we read some just lay carpet on top. Upon seeing this comment and googling, it appears some keep the Balsa floors. It looks very nice. Should we be moving in that direction? What’s the cons to the flooring?

I would never own a boat with carpet in the bilge. Its tough to clean and holds moisture which in returns accelerates rot. The balsa floor is a visually nice and worth shining up and showing off.

If you want balsa floors stop immediately w/ the wire wheels.
Cons are they are very slippery when wet and you have to keep everything you set on them free of sand etc. Think of them basically like gel coat on the deck. If you don't want scratches that's how careful you'll want to be. You could do a mix of seadek and balsa for a nice compromise.

Balsa is boss. Nothing nicer. Just takes a minute of sanding/cleaning to get it right.

Clean all the glue off and then see what you’re working with. Then decide what direction you want to go.

I like a Flo-coated floor and Balsa but, it’s not for everyone, it’s hot AF.

Thank you. What’s the best way to remove the old glue without the wire wheel?

Any chance you have picture of the seadek with balsa floors?

Sand paper. The finer the better, the courser it takes to get rid of the glue, the longer it will take to polish. You are basically polishing the floor.

Thanks! Well good thing we only had one wire wheel last night. I only did that back section really before I gave up.

TORCH! HAha
Sorry, I don't have a good answer for glue removal. You could try mineral spirits or similar to soften then a rigid plastic scraper?
I've only used wire wheels on non balsa w/ carpet going back down.
Sorry no pix either.
We have progressed beyond my usefulness here haha so I will quietly sit aside and observe.😄😄😂
I just wanted to caution you on the wire wheel, especially if using a knotted wheel. It will go thru layers of glass quickly. The wire, crimp type or knotted will be very abrasive on the resin very quickly and create deep scratches that have to be sanded out to not show creating that much more, expense etc. The glass is thin over the balsa, easily burned through.

It's going to take a lot of work being careful not to damage the glass and resin on top of the balsa. The glass in those areas isn't thick. The last thing you want to do is damage the glass above the balsa. The only fix for that type of mistake is a truckload of dollar bills. Slow, painstaking scraping and lots of patience. But the end result could be beautiful if done correctly.

I have done that exact job on a DCB 21. Gasoline will melt the glue, a little fumey but got the job done. then 3m finess-it on a foam wheel. Mine came out puss.
What Grumby said👍

Stop using a wire wheel. Too abrasive.
You might be able to lightly sand and polish it up nice.
Or sand a coarser grit and a new layer of flow coat.
I’ve seen some do flow coat in the bilge and up the center pod, carpet to the outside of the stringers.
I agree with someone who said no carpet in the bilge, turns nasty quick.

Oh How I miss my Daytona. Definitely don’t carpet the bilge area. I gel coated the whole area white. It was some maintenance to keep it white! Balsa looks bad ass but didn’t go with mine. I opted to carpet the rest from the backseat forward. This is the only bilge area pic I have.

You definitely don’t see very many blow throw carbed motors anymore. That’s a cool setup.

It’s required when you’re buddies with Kevin at CSU Carbs. I preferred the KISS method also. I had a MSD 7531 on it along with an O2 sensor that logged data. It was a pain in the ass to put the laptop on it, so I rarely did. Fuel injection and tuning would have required more work initially that I did t want to hassle with. It was a family boat after all 😀

I would love to have either of mine back. 95 with a 2.5 offshore(sprayed by gelcoater) and the 94 with a 300x(DCB rigged, this was the one I pulled the carpet out of)

After looking at the floors more- the right side seems like someone may have already tried this in the past? The corner edging seems much different the left side. Rougher, not as smooth. I know there’s still adhesive on, but it really looks different to me then just the carpet backing and glue. Or, my eyes are tired. It doesn’t appear to have any shine/gloss like the left side does.

Edit- never mind. My arms and mind are tired. Robert lightly sanded the area and it looks the same now.
