Which would you go with? In comparable trims.

The 5 Link seems pretty sweet in the Ram, but in the real world not sure if it is better than a leaf spring rear.

Cummins 370/800 Vs Dmax 445/900.

I have been looking into new trucks recently. Honestly, they are all pretty well sorted out these days. I was looking at GM and ram, not even considering Ford. Then I figured I should at least drive one before dropping a ton of cash. I ended up liking the Ford the most and was shocked. The 2017 redesign is pretty amazing. Hard to beat the Cummins for track record though. Make sure you drive them all.

The Ford was my favorite. Actually felt like you were in a modern truck. Lots of cool features and drive really well. Super expensive though. I asked the Ford dealer if he could get close to the Ram prices and he laughed and said that if they sold the Ford for the same price as the Ram, Ram wouldn't sell any trucks.

2nd was the Ram. Definitely felt like a solid truck. Cummins, solid front axle, steel body panels, etc. I like it for the value.

3rd was the GM. Just felt sorta meh. Like you were driving a 15 year old truck. And expensive for what it is. Not a bad truck though. As said they are all really good these days.

All 3 are revamping for 2020. Do you need a new truck this year?

I have a 2018 2500 4x4 Laramie Diesel Ram. It's awesome. It rides much nicer than the previous leaf spring model. Mine is a crew cab long bed. I bought it in February and I have been wondering the last 6 months why I didn't do it sooner.

This site just did a review of the 3500 trucks. Worth a read. I like the rams and would wait to see here in a few months what the new redesign will be.

I just got this as a new company work truck. 2018 ram 2500 cummins Laramie 4x4. Great truck. My personal truck is a 2016 with the 6.4l gas hemi and I love it.

My hemi tows more then a duramax 2500 and has more payload then any diesel on the market even ram. 3300 lbs.

Your Hemi 6.4 out pulls a Duramax? What test determines this lol

I bought a 2017 Duramax dually and pulled the 5th with it. While in the shop for service I borrowed a friends Ram to pull my trailer over to the coast. Went down the next day and ordered a 3500 Ram dually. It pulled, cornered and braked far better then the Duramax. If you are going to haul a load go with the Ram. If I drove a truck like a car, I'd drive a Ford.

The fact that a Chevy 2500 duramax is rated at 13k bumper and 13.5k gooseneck for a 2018. I already researched this a few weeks ago when the company almost got forced to get them in place of rams

The test is the SAE test protocol but who wants to deal with facts. The 6.4 hemi is the highest towing gas Hd truck on the market. That’s why I bought it for myself in 2016 as I was tired of broken power strokes.

Gas 2500HD rated to tow 14,500 with a payload of 3363 lbs. Not sure on 2500 Duramax but my 3500 rated at 30K GCWR so depending on the load in truck 19.5k towing has 13k GVWR

Look at any commercial transport outfit... In fact anyone that actually tows a shit ton over many miles (like snowbirds with 5th wheels) all Ram.

Just dragged this thing from FL and set the cruise at 75 and went.

Broken power strokes are the worst! Lol

The thing with the gassers is that 400+HP is moving the 13k load up the grade at 4500, vs the diesel at 2k. The pulling power of the modern diesel goes way beyond what they rate them at on paper

I have a 16 Duramax denali. Tows my 18k pound fifth wheel better than my old Ford F650 with 300hp CAT motor could ever dream of.

So what it needs rpm. I towed a 5k forklift which weighs 12,250 lbs on a 40 ft bumper tow car hauler that is 4k which put me slightly over gross rating from Bakersfield area back to Tucson with no issues.

Just because a diesel can pull a load at 2000 rpm up a grade doesn’t mean you should. I learned that quick with my ford 6.4 by watching egts hit 1500 plus deg and oil temps touch 270.

Does the diesel have better power, sure. But it’s 9k more, gets worse Econ unloaded, cost more to fix by labor hour, needs fuel filters more often and the fuel is more expensive. For s 3/4 ton truck it’s not worth it and I have both in my driveway. Get a 3500 drw to really take advantage of 31k lb towing capability. But the gasser damn near matches the Cummins in a 2500 and beats a duramax

Not sure about Dodge and Chevy but you can not get the Ford hot really with the water to air intercooler etc. Unless your a complete moron.

Yes the 6.7 has a better egr system. But it still fails. I personally saw a 6.7 chunk parts next to me leaving the national rodeo in Vegas as he was dumb and though that doing 75 in overdrive up a big grade that last 10 mins was no issue pulling a big horse trailer. I towed by gauges not speed on that truck. If temps climb. Boost gets pulled back followed by speed and then increased downshifting to increase rpm to reduce load. I went 189k on that truck with a 250 hp tune no less then it broke.

Also the 6.7 ford has the worst loaded towing mpg.

Those only show one configuration with a Duramax. The other 2 are both gassers.

I’m trying to compare 4x4 only. I could care less what a 4x2 does.

Ya any of them will fail if people drive like idiots. I drove my last 6.7 with dual fuel and a non vgt charger on it for 150K.

Sold my ram ecodiesel after a year of issues, total pile of crap. Went with a new 2500 Cummins a few months ago and love it. Level lift with 35’s and bilsteins and it rides like butta. Very happy with it, feels like it will last forever.

Those things have some major flaws. My buddies came across a few building turbo kits and other hard parts for them. The eco that is

I did similar 3" level springs from thuren with king 2.5 shocks on all 4 corners. track bar, sway bar links, and king steering stabilizer on 35's with method 18's. Great trucks

I am speechless, I just fell out of my chair.:D
Sad but true! Amazing trucks...
My friend got a loaded F350 DRW, we were running dirt fire roads in it at 60mph heading into town for supplies while out camping....damn truck felt like a Cadillac, not one squeak or rattle, all the while the A/C seats were cooling my ass and the massage chairs were putting in work.

What kind of issues? I heard about the timing chain sprocket bolt issue and some smog related stuff.

Needed a new def system, month in the shop, then a new fuel system, month in the shop, 2016 truck, out of warranty as well, nothing fell under the 100,000 powertrain warranty.

The best option for a srw on the ram is to get a 3500 with the Aisin HD trans which bumps the power to 385/910 if I recall correctly. Still don’t understand why they don’t offer that on the 2500, on a side note the new Apple sync on the 18s is awesome. My gps on the phone now displays like an iPhone on the 8.4” screen and Siri uses my Aussie accent as my phone as well.

My cousin bought a 2017 Ram 2500 Cummins and immediately put a Carli long arm kit on it with 35's. Thing is like a fucking cloud! They are some damn nice trucks.

Take the Ford for a test drive. You may really like the truck and if you do I can put you in contact with the VP of Ken Grody.

I would not buy a Fiat truck

I really want to like the Ram Ecodiesel.

But putting a European Diesel engine into an American truck...what could possibly go wrong?

Rumor is they will get rid of the EGR on the Cummins.
