I have been a spectator on this site awhile now and with all due respect thought I would seek some advice since everyone knows it all in one fashion or another.

I have a 74 Schiada V hull V- Drive (pictures to come SOON) that was initially built with a blown alcohol motor in the boats prime. My buddy and I dragged this boat out of a shed in northern California with the name still on the boat "still cummin" and this boat really seems to have ED and could use some prescriptions to get it as hard as it once was. lol

The motor that came with the boat is a big block 502 with HP GM heads, bored cylinders, High Rise intake drinking from dual 600 Carbs and some lousy basset headers. the motor was guessed to push somewhere in the 500 Horse range. This motor is coming out though so I will be getting rid of most or all of these parts to this power plant.

Here is the deal, I have a list of items I am thinking I need to get this thing re-rigged and romping the Parker strip this summer. I just pick up a sweet 400 SBC blueprinted to push about 600 HP. What I can think that I need are the following:

V-Drive oil pan - Not sure
High Rise, Baffleless Valve Covers - Definitely
Water Pump
Alternator
750-850 Carb
Prop
Air Cleaner
MSD Ignition, Coil
Motor Mounts
Stringer Runner Braces
Steering Wheel
V-Drive Cupler
SBC Headers

My goal is to get any parts siting in anyone's garage just collecting dust as those F'n takeoff Harley parts are doing in my garage. Not to barter, but hopefully get some cash into your pockets. So please let me know!

Also, if I am missing anything in this post please let me know. I could really use some pointers. This will be my first boat build and first V-Drive. My other boat is a 25' Eliminator so these are 2 different worlds, but I remain very excited about the vision at hand.

Since I Ski Patrol with Terry Jesse at Bear Mountain I think he will do the gel coat, but willing to take suggestions for a more cost effective referral. I will need to get a couple bucket seats as well. Now that Kustom Trailer in Rancho Cucamonga sold their building and are closing their doors for good I will need some suggestions on some trailer work.

Thanks in advance.

Any idea on the price?

BTW, I know of another 19 Schiada sitting on a brand new trailer, with a bunch of spare parts for 4K if anyones looking. Needs a couple K in gel / filling holes etc..

Does it have a transmission in it? If not you might want to look at one for it.

I hear where you are coming from with the trans. However with a 600 hp small block I would think you might want to avoid loosing all the power a trans eats up. I think that boat would run great with a SBC and no trans. Flatbottom style. I agree with the previous post you want to see what gears it has and check all that other stuff too. I have always liked the 19' I loved driving my dad's.

Does a velvet drive eat up less power than a t-400?

Thanks for the support. Since this is my first V-Drive and basically just a kid (under the hill), most of this is new to me. The boat is a 1974 Schiada 19 footer V Drive V-Hull. I had it on a trailer at the v-drive regatta at Irvine lake for sale with the old motor behind my red dodge if any of you were there.

The boat is currently rigged with a casale v-drive and I think there would be limited room to run a transmission since the boat is only a 19 footer. Ultimately this boat came ready to run, just in need of a tune-up. too bad not all dreams come true.

I do have a Don Zig Magneto which I have debated using in this build. I am going with the SBC because I had a Bombardier 650 DS with all the trimmings including a small shot of nitrous on it. I got the motor from a guy who built the motor right and basically I got a premium for the quad in a trade. The motor is completely fresh.

The compression is 10:1 and so therefore probably not going to a blower or turbo. However, I am pretty sure that even though bigger might be better, great things come in little packages when you put a nice 100 shot of nitrous into the mix. I figure most races are won and loss in less than a mile especially on the parker strip. As my dad always told me, its not always how fast you go, more so how fast you get there. Wish he were here to build this thing with me. Any how, I think I will be able to keep up with just about everything out there.

You need to just freshen up that 502 and buy a nice set of cmi headers and be done with it. A small block will not push that boat like a BB. No substitute for cubic inches. Also there is plenty of room for a velvet or a powerglide. Just my .02. I have the same boat with a Blown 470 CuIn BBC. and a velvet. They are a lot heavier than an average Sanger Flat and because it is a V Bottom It takes a lot of HP to push it to the front of the pack. Don't see it happening even with a BIG small block.

Also, you need to cut those fiberglass tanks out and change them to Aluminum or Stainless, the Ethonol in the Gas reacks Havoc on them, they fall apart inside.

So I have dug into the head of the big block. I started off by pulling the girdle from the head. Then loosened the stud bolts to remove the rockers...

so the moral of the story is:

DON'T LET OTHERS WORK ON YOUR STUFF>>>

You will get surprises you did not bargain for. Basically, if you know you didn't do, then who do you blame?

Nah... Mike turned me onto the boat and we drove up to pick it up together and were looking to partner in building it. Unfortunately, the motor took a turn for the worst early on which ceased that thought. Now it is really a project more than just gel and a slight tune up and my wife is jabbing me to do something with it.

What do you think river Dave? Does it look like a bolt in the cylinder could be bad? LOL

I am most livid at the fact that a few people worked on the boat and I cannot pinpoint who dropped the bolt down the intake. SO I have to move on and learn from my mistake.

Yah, Drake stopped by my house and we swopped stories... He left me with the build info... :drool
I offered to buy it and give him some trailer work... That is what I mean about serious sellers. Low ball or not. No word from him since. Lets get serious. Maybe he is waiting for the right buyer. Dunno.

There is still a bit of work to get that motor to run in the V-Drive since it is coming out of the Jet.

I have a client in Temecula who does gel repair. Initially, I do not intend to have anything wild. probably solid one color undecided. Probably a no brainer.

Honestly, details on the build and specs would help. Used has me a bit skeptical especially without history. Anything used has me telling myself it is used. Once bitten, twice shy.

I hear ya bud. I just called the previous owner. The Guy is a fucking PRICK.

Long story short he started getting into it with me over the phone, and the last words were not pleasant...

I listed most of the parts in my thread. What if I take the motor to my buddy's shop who has a start up stand. I cant start her up and run her on the stand to show you everything is all good.

I wish I could get the spec sheet, but like I said, the previous owner is PRICK

Maybe it is just me... Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Apparently, as of today he should be getting back to me about the trailer work when he gets back from Havasu.

I think its a great deal for the price I offered considering there is work to be done once I have it.

I did not see the compression ratio. What is the story on the previous owner?

I am sure you would. However, you would be in line with plenty of others. Last time i checked I did not see very many people lining up at $7,500.00

Trevor Hampton - Hampton Trailers

He can do new and/or rebuild (partial, complete, or anywhere in between). There are more than a few threads on RDP showing the great work he's done.

I agree. Your trailer came out really nice!:thumbsup As for the MTI and Dave's 12' the prep work around the L.e.d's where they did metal fabrication was crap, and the paint was not up to par in my opinion. Im not 100% trevor did these though. Thats just what I was told.
