Code P2149
Fuel Injector Group 2 supply voltage circuit/open

In laymen’s terms does this mean it’s time for injectors?
Has 182,xyz miles.

Tuner/no tuner? If tuner, set it stock or unhook it. Clear code and see if it pops again. Could also be the under valve cover harness or connectors. Usually if the injectors are going, it's not the solenoid/electric parts.

Stock.
Runs like shit.
Stopped at the closest Autozonr to use their scanner.
That code was the issue

Pull the two connectors on the driver side valve cover, see if they're oily. Clean, dielectric grease and stuff them back in. It could be a break in the wire, or a loose pin somewhere to the main harness.

This is for the whole 4.5.6 group, valve cover gasket failure is one issue, or a failed injector(s).

Poor connection, terminal fell/corroded off, oil in plug, broken wire.

Remove valve cover and OHM check the injector solenoids, they should be .6 or less (should be .6). Any open ones or 1.0 or higher need replacement. If they are all good, you need a valve cover gasket, since the wiring harness is built into it.

I can give you much more detailed trouble shooting information, if those simple checks don't come up with anything, these do rarely have ECU driver issues, and other wiring harness failures.

Injector is very likely done. Bosch injectors are very sensitive to any kind of water intrusion etc at the connection so make sure that isn't occurring when you replace it.

Rockauto hands down has the best pricing/availability on Bosch injectors from my experience...and a pretty good warranty.

My early 2004 dropped a cylinder with no codes. With 288k I decided to replace the original Injectors with a kit from Industrial Injection.
Also putting on a 2 micron CAT fuel adaptor kit as well. If this fixes it I'll post up the results. That Kit was less than $2k and they are flow matched, new Bosch tubes included. I will send mine back as cores.

I have a three plug harness and am tempted to change it because all the work involved to remove it.
Were 1/2 way in on the project and are pulling tubes today. If codes were thrown I would be working this in a different direction...maybe.

I've already done injectors on the Glacier Bay's 5.9's. Rebuilt and a couple new by BECS in Whittier. Issues from failed After Coolers and ingesting salt water.
I've always wanted to try these Ind. Inj. guys. These are 8 hole. Only 03 and early 04 use this tip. 555/305 (ours) or std output same part number. Everything newer uses a 5 hole tip and are less prone to clogging.

This is the 1st repair to the truck where the valve cover came off minus one valve adjustment.

Looking at the price of injectors reallly makes me long for the days of a simple carburetor....
I could have already replaced it (without a valve cover gasket replacement made of wiring and whatever precious material it’s made of) and be on the road.

Do they make a 4150 to Cummins adaptor kit? 😂

I feel ya im at 288k on my 04.5, my timing cover is puking and I’d rather put the funds toward a rebuild. If the damn thing blew up today I couldn’t be mad It’s been a great truck. I run a 2micron cat filter and a Baldwin in my bowl but I know my injectors are on borrowed time.

Lol.
Ya know?
My parents old 3+3 never experienced that, and, it had a B&M mini blower on it. 🤷‍♂️

Now please excuse me.
Going to go up the street and start removing @sintax Allison trans as a just in case backup plan.
I’d take the Duramax as well but it probably has more miles on it than my Cummins does.
Well. That and my engine only needs 6 injectors, not 8. That’s saving me money👍

My old man's 3+3 454 would do it all the time when it was hot, this was in the early 90s when they switched off leaded fuel though. He ended up getting a 96 powerstroke, the non-intercooled version and never looked back on gas trucks trucks for towing. There really is no comparison.

You’re going to love this.
Technically, my truck has more miles than yours. By about 40K.
However.
Moss Dodge/Cummins long blocked it at 48-50ish thousand miles.
A dead number 6
Because?
Injector failure. 🤔

Went in for a trans rebuild (on Dodge’s dime) and left with a rebuilt trans and engine.
I’m a fan of Dodge.👍

06 Cummins here

I’ve had numerous codes and strange running issues due to old batteries.

When the Ram is acting up, I always start with chasing battery cables and fresh batteries. More often than not, those alone resolve my issues.

(Admitted I don’t drive it much)

My 03 is still stock other than turbo and downpipe. I've got about 350k on it. Still runs great

Now I've probably jinxed it
Probably😂
I spoke with “The Godfarher” a couple weeks ago.
I was working for him when I bought this Ram.
He liked it and bought a silver MegaCab about 2 months later.
He has over a half million miles on it.

cant ever imagine buying a 2wd truck, but I know some people do.

well thats a bummer to hear, rebuilding the front end of these trucks isnt exactly cheap, as the duramax guys know

Ha, the ball joint was 56 bucks from dodge. 75 from napa. It's actually easy to change. The hardest part is the spacer for the 1 tons. Can only use an end wrench with about 90 degree turns. Should be easier on a 3/4 ton

I’ve got a TTVA code and looooong shift 1st to 2nd issue on and off for 7 or 8 years. Built trans, holds fine, but a delay in the shift from 1 to 2 I’ve never been able to solve.

Some tell me to swap the ECU ($$$) others say I need to replace the harness (also $$). I don’t tow often, but when it’s acting up I can usually clear the code with the programmer and then be good for another couple days.

My trans guy replaced the plug off the wiring harness to the speed sensor on the trans and fixed my holding a gear too long and the shift back a gear issue.

I would say the kit is the same price.

All the rockers and bridges are bagged and tagged separately so hopefully I wont need to adjust the valves upon their reinstall. Well see on that one.

We have not worked the truck since my initial post. We're heading to the river today and will attack this thing next week.

We have a slew of shitty old cars to drive in the interim.

I have the same truck and had the same issue at 196K, Pull the valve cover and put a meter across the terminals on the injector. More than likely one of them is shorted out. I got 6 rebuilt bosch injectors from Diesel injection service in Colt/Fontana. The rebuilt boschs include all new bodies and are tested more than the new injectors and have a warranty.

Oh what a painful sight.

17 years before the mighty Ram see’s a tow truck.
I’m sure to hear some heckling from one of you😂

Mechanic calls me, I had already told him I don’t want to replace an injector or 2, let’s do all 6

He explains I can have Bosch injecrors outbof a box that says Dodge on it.
Or Bosch injectors out of a box that’s says Bosch for about a grand less🤔

I ask about +50hp injectors.....
😂
Now I’m back in Dodge territory.

We may be looking at 6 Bosch injectors installed.
We will be talking about a 6 Gun tuner.

Stay “tuned” 😉

Idk its an urban legend or true....but was told many years ago that on the paint line in Mexico, the bathrooms are really far away and that there was a period in time where the Mexican's were pissing in the paint tanks to avoid the walk. I always just figured thats as good of an explanation as any.🤣

My son and I finished replacing all 6 Injectors last Sunday. Dead hole is gone.

Industrial Injection - super pleased. Their "Stock" remans and new factory Bosch tubes and a couple gaskets later this thing have NEVER run like this. Hardest part was locating all the fastener torque values on line.

I am sending the cores back today. I did check resistance of the injector coils and all were within spec. I looked at the tips and can clearly see all the holes (8 holes) were completely covered with Carbon on one. I still don't know what hole was dead because I didnt number the injectors as they were removed.

Plus side all valves clearances within spec. This one is a win.

Keep the oil changed, and a spare waterpump...as long as you don't let the injectors go to hell (and keep driving), they last forever.

my timing cover is leaking and I think it’s blow by related I’d hate to spend 1500 to fix it all to find out it blows out again. I figure put that money toward a rebuild. I have the usual valve clatter lol.
