If you are going to purchase a car with a salvage title, make sure your insurance will cover it. Some companies do not offer insurance for salvage/rebuilt titled cars. And if you do buy it, post pictures! I always enjoy a Porsche.
… I checked with my Allstate insurance… They will cover it, and the increase in my policy is not as much as I expected…
… As this was the closest Cayanne to me… I thought I should go over and at least sit in the drivers seat and feel what it is lke… I drove it around the streets of Glendale… And I really like the way these cars drive…. It handled almost like a sports car and was Very very comfortable… the dealer did not go for my low ball offer… but given all the red flags… I just didn’t want to go any higher???,.. neighbor, girl came over and drove it… Since she most likely will be sporting me around… and she approves of these cars…

As an inspector for those insurance companies, I can say that is fucking horrible advice.

No claim, no pay. Submitted after the act? Against the agreement terms you signed when you bought it. Toss up on if they will do anything for you.

Since around 2000 almost all manufacturers went to a cartridge type system, where the entire assembly is replaced. Very expensive.

But that is what insurance is, for accidents. Any qualified inspector can easily assess most types of damage these days, as you need to have decent qualifications to be an inspector now.

10 years ago any guy with a camera could do it, now they only hire people with industry or aftermarket certification. IE: ASE Mastertech or any Master certification from a Manufacturer.
Well, i don’t know what to tell you. None of our customers have never had any problems? For the record i am talking about glass claims only. Which are usually handled by scumbag 3rd party administrators anyways. I will not waste any time arguing , nor waiting for a part approval, with someone about what they try and tell me i can charge for a part , which part to use and how much i can charge for that service.

There are some panoramic roof panels that can be replaced seperate of the assembly(movable) but fixed panels are mostly urethane in.

I still have my Cayenne diesel. It had one fix under warranty that would have been $$$. This has 170K on it and the mechanic just fixed the EGR cooler. That bill was $2,400. That is the biggest bill we've had with it and the Cayenne has been cheaper than my 16 Ram and a POS 07 Outlook my son still uses that we fix while hes in graduate school. My daughters Lexus (that we pay to fix) has been way more expensive than the Cayenne. It drives better than all the above by a long shot. I dont know about the gas cayennes but the body on the car is very solid. Im driving this one in to the ground andf have no intention to ever sell it, but getting a Panamera sport turismo pretty soon.

When the dealer sent us home with a new Macan while having service I preferred our Cayenne to the brand new Macan. Its just that nice to be honest

The dealer gave a loaner Macan while my Panamera was in the shop. That thing was horrible. Way too small.

Id gives this a long bit of consideration.... and you definitely can warranty these thru 3rd party.... I had a gal who owned the VW version of this and I'd wash it and was amazed at the simiarities to the Porsche version. You'll be paying for that brand name but you know that. as mentioned these older Euros are real costly when go down.... and they always go down I hear.
… I talked to a guy across the street from me today …whose wife drives a…I think it’s a 2016 Cayenne GTS,.. and he Flat told me do not buy one of these… And he started telling me what it cost to replace an air ride shock, and various other things… What I’m not too sure of …is if those are things his wife’s car needs …But he was emphatic about don’t, buy one???… I think the GTS that they have gets hammered. pretty good as I have heard him takeoff late at night… pedal to the metal…???…

I had a stage in my life where I liked expensive cars.... Range Rovers taught me my last "Euro Lessons" with their air shock systems. Think my last bags cost me several thousands to fix. I went full on into Chevy/ Ford and never looked back. Lost some Show Pony attention for sure but life continued just fine.

Don't do it, Willie. Door damage doesn't cause a salvage title. Something else is going on.

If you’re going to take the plunge and buy a money pit euro car, I’d suggest one of 2 routes. CPO with warranty, or a clean 1-2 owner with all maintenance records included. Newer and low miles is not always better- it’s all in how it was maintained. Do not buy anything with a salvage title.

The No-name and buy here/ pay here lots are full of cheap euro cars, and most of them have no records, questionable history, and hidden issues. It’s really easy to hide things from Carfax.

I would find a reputable independent Porsche shop to do a pre-purchase inspection. If the seller is hesitant to allow an inspection, run.

I would also find a Porsche forum and spend a few days reading up on trouble areas and the associated repair costs. Those same forums are also good places to find well maintained vehicles for sale.

Keep in mind, even after doing all of this, you are still going to go through the usual love/ hate relationship of frequent overpriced repairs that you overlook and forget about once you drive it, lol. Do not buy one if you are not willing to deal with a couple of expensive ($$$$) fixes a year. They may never occur, but you might have 2 or 3 over the course of 6 months.

If you want a slightly more boring yet comfortable used luxury SUV without the maintenance nightmares, look at Lexus.

…Thanks… I am pretty sure this car has a pretty sordid history… the door was the only thing that had been repainted… the MO of this lot appears to be…buy cars at auction and do whatever it takes to make them salable… I watched a truck back in and deliver a junkyard motor to them… what that was for I really don’t know… they had what appeared to be a pretty complete mechanical shop in the back …my main idea of going there was to hopefully be able to drive a Cayanne… which I was able to do👍
.., The co-owner of the lot…Art.,. actually seemed pretty straightforward and honest… not your typical car salesman at all… I have a feeling that he usually did not tell his customers as much as he told me… Two possible reasons … I think it’s because Krystal✨ showed up… she has a way of kindly making people open their mouth…and tell the truth???…lol…… I also told him my history of being a picture car coordinator in the movie industry … about all I could tell him in this day and age is to look up picture car coordinators online… he had a pretty, nice older Corvette..,he wanted to get in the movies …I honestly didn’t really know what to tell him … my time was decades ago, …
..;Krystal✨ wanted the Panamera that he had on his lot… That was salvage titled because someone had stolen the Vin number off of it… really nice car… but I didn’t want to spend $23,000 on a small four-door sedan🤷🏽‍♀️
… There was also a beautiful Bentley…That was not a salvage title that he would’ve worked a trade for my Lake Oroville property… A Bentley in the Hood… probably not a good idea???…
… From what Art had told me… It was either during the Covid or right after the Covid …everybody was so confused that many cars were totaled for less than door damage…Dunno???…

Willie, Art seemed straightforward and honest because he has years of practice. That there's another car on the lot with a salvage title screams run like hell.

I don't know what else to say. Maybe a member in your area can help you out.

…Re… A Lexus SUV… A friend of mine…A mega millionaire bought out the lease on his Lexus SUV… I can’t remember what year it was and he has passed away, so I can’t very well ask him.???…
… I am very aware of how easy it is to circumvent Carfax… I got the lowdown while I was living in Oklahoma….Still trying to find my 12 valve dodge ram diesel pick up…
… The co-owner of the lot where my first view of a Cayonne was… Said he had no problem with me, taking the Cayanne to anybody within a 10 mile radius to have it fully inspected… why within a 10 mile radius… that struck me as a little odd???…
.., As far as a Porsche forum… that is how I used to do things… for other vehicles that I have purchased… I seem to be doing things kind of backwards in my old age… I know I’m never going to get to be 100%… But at least I have to try…

Friend bought one of these a few years back... it was in great shape and several years old but still looked modern and he's had zero issues mechanically so far ... things built like a tank and moves. Its a good one but he did get some shit as a glorified soccer mom auto. It lacks the manly look.

My first Jag was a 1978 XJ6L.... thats when my love affair began. So smooth and the smell of those interiors wasn't like anything else. Electronics [Lucas?] broke my wallet & heart in the end. But I was hooked.

… I just read an article on CoPilot… basically stating that Porsche Cayenne‘s are generally quite unreliable… and that the years 2004 and 2011 are the least reliable… and stay away from those two at all, costs…it indicates they are midsize luxury SUVs, and have all the creature comfort goodies, but they might wear out brakes too soon, which doesn’t bother me the coolant lines which are plastic don’t last very long… and various other things…

I have my C5Z06 Corvette up for sale and would like to replace it with a performance SUV (more practical for where I live). I would love to have a Cayenne, MB, Audi or BMW but just don't want to deal with the repair costs.

I really wish Lexus made a performance model but they all seem to be more luxury oriented. I've been thinking about buying a used Tahoe and modifying it. Forced induction and suspension mods to make it handle decent.

Another option would be the Trackhawk Jeep Grand Cherokee but they are way too expensive however the SRT8 models are much more affordable. People say they are not reliable but I've had several of them with no issues.

… On the Lexus… The only new thing I currently know about them is there is a lady across the street that comes home from work every day in her blue Lexus SUV…
… I asked her husband what it was because I really didn’t know… and was a bit surprised when he told me…a Lexus… it looked kind of smallish and plain Jane????… maybe there are two different models a big one and a little one???… in thinking about it… She looks very relaxed driving it… but does have to stretch her legs and walk a bit when she gets out of it…🤷🏽‍♀️
… Another person…a guy across the street… The same one whose wife drives a Porsche GTS Cayanne… often times has a ballsy jeep pick up parked in their yard… huge off-road tires… it looks like a serious off-road vehicle… but no clue as to what the model is???…

I had an English neighbor who bought an XJ6 and the first thing he did was to put a 350 chevy in it. He wanted reliability. I thought it was interesting.

… That was a very popular conversion.., my first XJ6 was a small block Chevy conversion when I bought it… My next Jag a coupe XJ6C had a light knock in the six cylinder …probably nothing serious but I don’t drive cars around with knocks… so I put a 350 Chevy in that one..,

I'm not even gonna join this thread lol. I've had lots of older and new BMWs and other German cars, never had a problem I didn't anticipate.

Do your research, put a $1-2k aside each year for "surprises" and you will be fine.

Nothing beats driving a BMW or Porsche.

It's like a boat, you gotta pay to play!!!

… I had no plans of not having a bunch of cash set aside for whatever might go wrong with a Cayenne… other than maybe grenadeing a motor…

… I had to put a trans in my Expedition and the rear…rear end in my Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins diesel… 4x4…so I am somewhat used to the surprise hit😳

…Hmmm???… have never even sat in a BMW… But man they sure can get a bad rap???… never paid any attention as to why???…

… And I have had quite a few boats… and I know how pricey that can get🤷🏽‍♀️

…So…I guess it is what it is???…

Everyone was dropping those 350s in em at that time. I'm sure it was the smart way to go but I just couldn't .... and besides it was the electrics that were crushing em as I recall. Not sure what folks of that era were doing about that Lucas crap. I only had one used one before getting into new.

A Lexus is a nice vehicle, but don’t expect any sporty sensations from it. We went from a 2011 BMW 550i to a 2017 RX350, what a rude awakening it was. It was a very nice car/suv, but it was boring, no sporting pretensions at all. If you want a very comfortable ride from point A to point B this is your car. But if you want some excitement look elsewhere.

Haha, basically did the same at our home…had the 2013 Cayenne Diesel which the wife really loved(but the extended dieselgate warranty was ending) but I had concerns with all of the diesel equipment going bad…if we kept it I’d probably do the delete. Then replaced it with a 2023 Lexus NX450H+ which checked the pure electric 45 miles range and ICB for the extended road trips. Definitely didn’t have the sporty feel of the Cayenne. But I put RS-R shock and springs with some 22” Vossen rims and it’s definitely improved.
Funny thing,we sold the Cayenne to my BIL and will be using it for Paso Robles trip coming up. Hopefully it does t make us regret selling it.

Man that already sounded like the winner too
.., So… Said female friend shows up unannounced yesterday evening in the 2012 80,000 mile Cayenne… This car is immaculate… She said do you want to drive it and I said yeah… So we went out cruising… ended up at the 7-Eleven as she got thirsty… The 7-Eleven was really close to where she grew up… I don’t know how that happened???… we got back to my house and just sat and talked for a very long time… She kept saying I gotta go. I gotta go as she was going camping the next morning with her horse buddies and six horses… she didn’t leave for the longest time… This is the chick I’ve been sort of chasing for six years… we played Kissy face in the street …in the car… Neighbor across the street pulls up in whatever some sort of big off-road Jeep pu is… and said… well did you buy it and I said no …now she thinks she doesn’t want to sell it…. maybe because she and her sister had spent a couple of days detailing it inside and out???…
…I said… Sam talk her into selling it to me …He didn’t say a word… other than asking her what year the car was and what other kind of car she had… She had his interest at …her other car is a Porsche Panamera???… He finally pulled away… And she said who was that???…I looked at her straight in the eye and said… I have no idea???… she looked shocked… So I finally told her thats the guy across the street whose wife drives the Cayanne GTS hot rod…
… So here is the bottom line… Screw the car… I want the Chick???…😳

…My life being a double Scorpio … Scorpio, sun sign and Scorpio, rising sign …has been a strange trip indeed…🤷🏽‍♀️
…Made the mistake of talking at length to my girlfriend before last also a Scorpio… and a drunk… I had to notify her about a girl from the 60s…who had passed away…, but I told my old girlfriend way too much and got my ass chewed about said girl with the Porsche Cayenne… Basically she told me since her sister had been my girlfriend… Like 59 years ago and I had slept with her sister …that said Porsche Cayenne girl could never sleep with me… Why I didn’t just hang up the phone then… I don’t know???…
… These are the two sisters, both of them my dear friends… the blonde is my old girlfriend… The dark-haired one is her sister who I have been sort of chasing for six years???… The one with the Porsche Cayenne… and also a Porsche Panamera🤷🏽‍♀️
… Yes I am a dumb ass when it comes to women… But damn I’ve had some beauties and I’ve had a lot of fun🤷🏽‍♀️

… OK I just had lunch… I’m ready to carry on… Wait a minute what did I do with my cane???…😳…hmmm???…

…Definitely have one more fling left in me…
…Said Porsche girl as we were talking Friday night and she already had figured out what hooking up with me was going to be like… she is a Virgo… And they just intuitively figure that stuff out… and my weakness in life, Virgo chicks… There is a trail of them???… anyway said Porsche girl made a comment about afraid of falling in love… I said I don’t worry about that not gonna happen… Then she said I’m not worried about you. I’m worried about me…Yikes…???…

I cant... I just cant
… Ahhh… fuck it… go ahead… I always enjoy your opinions and your take👍… and your old beater truck…🤷🏽‍♀️

… And what am I going to do for the next few hours… Going to go with the very cute 29 year old Hispanic neighbor girl… To the body shop where her Mercedes is… After America’s tire fucked up her car… she is going to hand-deliver the check for the estimate which America’s tire would not send to the body shop…
… I knew people …in the old days… get an estimate for the repairs… Get a check from the insurance company… Cash the check… Find a backyard guy… To fix the car for 75% less than the estimate… keep in mind I just heard about this🤷🏽‍♀️…I think???…

I think the only practical way to own a used Porsche is to either live near a German car repair center, or become your own mechanic.
