That was a staple for us going cross country as a kid in 76. It was about the most consistent place that you could find in the middle of nowhere…
A buddy came out here from Alabama last summer. He brought me 2 pecan logs.
Heaven!!

Stopped at Cracker Barrel for Xmas eve dinner. Tomorrow will be hit or miss food wise.
We traveled on Christmas and the day after last year (due to Southwest issues). Had to break down and eat fast food since day after was a Sunday.

Wouldn’t it be more enjoyable to drive the Range Rover Sport and tow the truck?

The truck is too long for a uhaul and too wide. Plus at 7k plus a 2000lb trailer it outweighs both the RR and Mercedes towing capacities. (Wife followed in our gl550… which rides waaaay better than the RR, massage seats, auto cruise control, etc) As much as I don’t want to drive the truck I do need to remind myself that this IS what it’s made to do. Big radiator trans and oil coolers etc. I was able to pull 65+ most of the way. The Allison transmission really does a great job in tow/haul mode with hills up and down. Having the boost/vac gauge helps with seeing how the engine is doing with the go pedal when driving. Usually cruises around 12/14 and up a hill around 6/8. Anything lower and you’re just wasting fuel. Not to mention the RR is packed to the gills with stuff, probably another 1k lbs. The bed of the truck is full as well probably another 1k. So a 11k load the whole way it didnt even flinch. The 8.1 really is a great engine. 2800ish rpms up a hill at 55 easily. Got a bunch of waves and honks from people along the way. People take pictures at gas stations. I’m averaging about 10mpg though. But when gas is 2.30 I don’t really care. It’s weird that the bus at almost 50k lbs got 10mpg as well but diesel was upwards of 3.70.

I'm going with Dallas/FW or Tulsa. Looks like 6 hours from the 40/TX border to either.

Shoulda stopped at the Big Texan in Amarillo. Bucket list type stuff there.

We had our Christmas dinner at the Chinese food place last night. stayed a nice hotel kids went swimming then we told him to go outside in the 28° weather which was funny. Now we’re back on the road. With only three hours to go to our final destination.

I'm guessing final destination is somewhere near Kansas City. Based on the following clues:

A) entered Texas on US-54 @ 2:30pm CST.

B) At 5:30pm CST, post 131, he is going NE direction, it's 34*, and he states about 3 hours to go. You can't be going NE in Texas 3hrs after (A) and it wasn't that cold yesterday south of Wichita Falls (as one example).

C) six hours after entering TX on US-54 puts them at/near Whichta, KS for Christmas night.

D) post 144 - ~3 hours to final destination. That would be the Kansas City area.

E) alternatively, the timing of him posting pics could mean final destination is Iowa or northern Missouri?

In any case, good luck in your new home!
