I probably don't care (as I'll not likely ever sell it), but is it possible the watch community will come around to recognize this generation as the product of an actual watch company (even if the "in-house" movement is made for them)? And re-price it accordingly?

Easier to justify if can pretend it's an investment...

If you're a porsche guy and like the watch go for it. I know previous watches were made by Eterna and some of their other movements were based of ETA 7755 calibers if i remember correctly.

For the price, there are other watches you can look into that will hold value better and have more name recognition. Maybe try to pick up the porsche watch second hand to have someone else take the depreciation hit?

If it were me I would try both of them on. Depending on your wrist size a 39mm chrono may look a bit small as there is a lot going on in a smaller sized dial.

Sure. Can't want something partly just because it's different and expect it to be liked as much as more popular watches.

Just means to talk watches I'll have to be the one to bring it up (I can explain how Eterna hasn't been in the picture for a decade).

Would be nice to not fight the Porsche identity confusion, but I've just not seen anything else I like as much.

Visited a friend this last weekend who showed off his new Hulk. Really only made me want something other than another Rolex/Omega/Breitling and made me really appreciate the minimalism of the Porsche Design.

I think the problem with that is that will never appeal to a non Porche guy. If you don't like Porche you will probably never wear that watch no matter how good of a watch it is. You would just wear a name brand watch that costs the same value. That's going to affect its resale value compared to other watches of similar value.

I used to have a pretty expensive Porsche design watch.. all my previous wrist movement watches I broke the movements.. when I was playing pool when you break the shock screws them up..

Well I was not gonna let that happen to my nice watch.. so I took it off and put it on the shelf. Needless to say I don’t have it anymore. Lol

My wife and kids bought me a stainless Apple Watch 7 for my Birthday and I set it up today.

I have to say that it does a lot of really useful things, all by voice. The vast majority of my apps are available including the Havasu house automation, email, phone, messaging, photos, music, car monitoring plus health monitoring and so much more.

Although I’ve been wearing my Omega automatic for years, and have a few other nice watches, I’m really thinking about wearing the Apple daily.

Casio makes surprisingly good watches.

That particular watch is not an investment.

You can find a few (in eternity blue) on Chrono 24 for way under new MSRP.

I dont see the watch community recognizing this particular brand as a stand out, or an appreciating brand even though they make a cool watch.

That’s a sharp watch also, we have similar tastes. I was a finance guy too. Wifey bought this one for me when we started to make some decent coin in my 50s.

And I have been a fan and owner of Porsches since 1979. I love Porsches and their automotive products.

I've never personally liked The Porsche design products.

If you like the watch buy it - but I wouldn’t hope the watch community will suddenly start thinking it’s a great investment.

To be clear - I know that watch is high quality and very well built but I don’t think watch collectors will be lining up to buy it in 30 years.

Beautiful. A grail watch, for sure.

I've considered a Bell & Ross BR05 as a nod to the Royal Oak (as I like to think of my blue dial Aqua Terra as Nautilus 5711-like), but think I'm only interested in titanium watches now.

Turns out it's not easy to see the Porsche Design watch. Only available at their boutiques, and the nearest (Houston) is "temporarily" closed.

I'll not buy until I can fondle it, so might be awhile.

If I like it, I'll buy it knowing it'll not appreciate or be much appreciated.

If we want to geek out, I have my eye set on this, but it's $50k and who knows if one can even get one anymore.

Completely hand-made movement by one man (in his own shop, like in the early days), he was the chief master watchmaker at the Patek philippe museum for a decade.

i like to see a watch thread. I don’t have any 10k watches. However, a fun story to tell. My wife bought me a Tag aqua racer, She was with one of her older, very well off, clients she represents. She commented on his watch and lead’s’s with, “I just bought my husband a Tag“ (we were early 20’s). Anyhow, elder gentlemen says that’s very nice of her to do so. Something to the effect that “Watches aren’t just a timepiece, but art and engineering”. “This here is a Patel Phillip that they made for me celebrating 50 years as a customer”. for those on the know….know (priceless)

My latest - Omega Constellation 41mm - My new dress watch, jumping hour hand is great for travel as well, how these things are not more popular here blows me away, only popular in Asia apparently.

Omega Seamaster Professional 300m - The watch that started the passion, I had wanted this for 25 plus years since seeing goldeneye in the theaters as a 16 year old. This is the latest version, not the Pierce Brosnan one, but they are very much in the same design family.

Seiko "Cocktail Time" - My second purchase and "cheaper" dress watch where I am not as worried about it. Dials designed by a famous bartender in Japan, each lining up to a particular cocktail, a very nice looking watch, I think, at a very affordable price point.

Who I have bought my Omega's from does not have Rolex, and considering the crazy nature of "getting the call" to actually buy a rolex, I might as well funnel my next couple of purchases in that direction, in the hopes after a couple years I do get the call. I am thinking of Hyde Park Jewelers in Fashion Island, they have JLC, OMEGA, many others that are in my wheelhouse, but wanted to know if anyone out there is getting new steel sport watches from a place where in reasonable time and purchase history, I might get the text message. I know the game, I just want to play it with the right people.

I have no current "new" Rolex connection.

For used watches I've worked with European Watch in Boston and Feldmar in LA

Chrono 24 is also a great resource, but you need to be careful of the seller - lots of these watches are simply arbitrage pieces - some one that knows someone with that watch and when a purchase is made they go source it.

I have definitely opened my mind to treating myself a bit with bonuses, and I honestly am really enjoying it. I work in tech, and in this technical age with everything being disposable convenience, being able to see the marriage of engineering and art several times a day, just gives me joy, some strange reason. A salute to skills not in everyone's mind any more. I don't purchase for an investment, and I don't really wear them for fashion, but I like "measuring" time, with a tool, rather than being told by a piece of apple crap, "what" time is. A relationship with time and the appreciation of artisans I guess is what got me going with it, I am curious from others, what compels them in the very luxury and unnecessary purchasing.

Me too, but I've been thinking of a titanium Seiko Astron as a travel watch.

1. If not as engaging as a mechanical, GPS/Solar is interesting in its own way.

2. Grand Seiko quality (built alongside the 9F and Spring Drive models).

3. Less to risk when out than the Omegas.

Pure coincidence, I was just watching this vid the other day…while they focus on the Master Compressor, they do a great job of telling the story of why JLC is such a significant watch company.

And they also pronounce it correctly, so folks can impress their friends at parties

I have definitely opened my mind to treating myself a bit with bonuses, and I honestly am really enjoying it. I work in tech, and in this technical age with everything being disposable convenience, being able to see the marriage or engineering and art several times a day, just gives me joy, some strange reason. A salute to skills not in everyone's mind any more. I don't purchase for an investment, and I don't really wear them for fashion, but I like "measuring" time, with a tool, than being told by a piece of apple crap, "what" time is. A relationship with time and the appreciation of artisans I guess is what got me going with it, I am curious from others what compels them in the very luxury and unnecessary purchasing.

The digital lifestyle pieces are fun toys that end up in the trash in a few short years and require carrying additional power cords and chargers - they tether vs free me like a good mechanical does and depreciate like used hand grenades.

Most mechanical watch guys love the art and engineering that goes into them and Im no different. Telling time and having a relationship with it are very different and my mechanicals are life companions.

I consider them at least minimally responsible spends in that they at least hold if not appreciate in value while being enjoyable all the time.

JLC is such an incredible house. The history and accomplishments are phenomenal.
There are many that think JLC should displace VC in the "trinity".
