Toro, had one for years, zero maintenance besides regular servicing. I had a half acre, took less than a hour.😎

How much and how often are you cutting?
Even the less expensive models sold at Home Despot (Deere, Toro, etc) will leave an excellent cut.
The difference between them and more expensive models at and Deere and Toro dealers is the quality of the components used (how heavy the decks/frames are, bearing/spindle quality/transmission capacity etc).
Like most things - you get what you pay for.
I'd buy a brand that you know you'll be able to get parts for in 10 yrs.

Where are you at? Friend works for Stotz equipment John Deere dealer and other brands. He’s out of Escondido but they have stores all over and is a river guy he may be able to help you out.

If you need a big one, look at Grasshopper....fold up deck. Nice for storage and blade maintenance.

I bought a great Dane. Bought out by Deere. It will outlast me . I bought it for the triple leaf bagger and blower. Dang thing will suck up acorns with the right chopper blade.

how much you mowing? mom has 10 acres and a diesel john deere 997 zero turn. I have an acre and run a Bobcat brand zero turn. We also have a Ferris on the farm for bar ditches. my favorite with acreage is the diesel john deere. it will flat out haul ass and get it cut fast its a damn machine! Next is my bobcat zero turn, comfortable, easy to operate and adjust deck height on, quick response. one of the better ones. The ferris is pretty rugged does its job, but not as friendly as the bobcat...

I have a Walker which does a great job, not a conventional zero turn. We have a John Deere at the ranch, it is really solid and easy to work on.

How much area are you talking? Smaller yard would mean most will be fine. If you are looking at anything serious, stay with one of the bigger brand names. I know on the small tractors, there's a reason the green or orange paint is more expensive. They hold up with regular use.

All depends on what your plan is. That said, I really want a Dixie chopper. I mean who doesn't need a 40 hp standard lawnmower......

If you want a wide deck, Hustler has one with a 52” deck that’s competitively priced.
I have one with a Koehler V-Twin and it’s grea….bought It used (1 year old, looked new) for $1700 about 4 years ago.
Its a consumer model, not a pro model.

The price difference between consumer and pro is staggering.

Grandpa has 11 acres in bfe texas. Has a bad boy and loves it. His john deer ride on has been relegated to taxi duty for trips to the barn and house.

I have 3 acres…
We just moved to Texas from SoCal and needed to upgrade from having a Gardner to being the Gardner. I bought the Toro MyRide Zero turn and have been really happy. I tried my neighbors John Deere, Cuba Cudet and Troy Built. After trying these I thought the Toro was the best. Not sure how your 3 acres is laid out but you may want to go with a smaller tractor and bush hog type of mower .

Son has the Cub Cadet and loves it. 1.5 acres, flat but a few trees to mow around.
