My first real job was at age 15 working with my best friend on his families farms. Started the day after we got out of school and had to be at the main farm at 5am. First chore was to pump diesel fuel from the main tank into 6 x 55gal drums that were in the back of his dad's truck. From there we took the big flatbed truck to the seed store and hand loaded 55lb bags of fertilizer and green bean seed, about 5 tons total. Drove to the first field (some were 30 - 45 miles away) and waited at the end of the rows to load the planter that would plant 8 or 12 rows at a time. Some fields were so big it would take a week to plant it, dawn to dusk 7 days a week. At dusk we would head back to the farm where we would do a couple of chores for the next day. It was always about 10pm or so by the time I got home. We did this for the whole summer without a day off for $150 cash per week. We finally graduated to the big John Deer 4X4 tractors to disc the fields after the beans were picked to plant soy beans. When going from field to field we had to take side roads and even with the disc folded up you had to almost ride the ditch to stay out of oncoming traffic. If there was a mailbox or road marker sticking out to far it was removed once we passed. :D Our lunch was served everyday in the field by his Dad. At high noon he would come barreling across the field in his truck, slide to a stop drop the tailgate and perform his daily task to open the can of Spam, slice it with his pocket knife and slap it in between two pieces of bread. We would have a Coke to wash it down and back to work. On Friday's he would bring Ham for the sandwich and that was a treat! One day my buddy said to me if he brings Spam today I'm going to tell him I ant eatin that shit today. Well he pulled out the spam and Jim said "I wouldn't feed that shit to my Dog" his father looked at him and replied "by God I wouldn't give it to him". Well Jim didn't eat that day and never remarked about the lunch meat again from that day forward.
It was the hardest work I have ever done and really gave my the respect our farmers go through to get crops to the market and to try and make a living for themselves.

I think I was 15. Worked at Gemco as a seasonal employee during Christmas.

I was in charge of cutting Christmas trees with a chainsaw for the customers. No training, no protection. Just jeans, long sleeve tshirt and tennis shoes. :D

"here's how you start it...........here's how you turn it off. Try to make the sawdust go away from the customers"

That was it.

Fun job for a 15 year old surfer. :D

Started working early. Lots of odd jobs. Cleaned a catering truck and stapled motorcycle seats together for a while! :p Worked at KFC cause I liked a girl that worked there. When I realized she didnt even know I was alive, I quit (lasted a whole 2 weeks!). lol

First REAL job was at Valley Auto Supply in Alhambra. (I was 17) Started as the parts driver, and after a couple of years, I ran the whole machine shop by myself. Those were fun days, we actually fixed stuff back then! Kinna a lost art in the automotive field these days.

Not unless you were developmentally disabled lol:D
I worked at All Nations Camp. Aside from the afore mentioned types they also had a contract with Youth Gang Services in LA. If I had a dollar for every gangbanger that threatened to kill me I would be a millionaire :thumbsup

My first real job was at the Zacky Farms Chicken Kitchen on Valley and New Ave, but I spent every paycheck at Valley Auto trying to build up my International Scout.

You are right .... in a sense, but I am responsible for it all, and that has consequences...

C-mon just a little humor. I'm a custom concrete and framer, turned heavy equipment operator, turned foreman. I know your pain:D:D

From 10-12 I mowed lawns all up and down the street with a push mower at first, saved up and bought a used reel gas mower and edger.
At 12 I worked with a friend who had a large paper route for the Long Beach Independent Press-Telegram, and then in the summers had a job sweeping floors and "learning" the trade at McGihon Sheet Metal on Temple ave. in Signal Hill. I'd ride my 10speed from 1106 East 46th in North Long Beach over there. Dropped the paper route at 13, mowing bizz got busy...sold my mowers and "client list" to a friend and left the sheet metal shop at 14 to go to work for my friends Dad,who ran a catering business.
He worked my ass off, and by the time I got my drivers license he was sending me and his son all over SoCal on jobs. We made huge tips on those parties and weddings, etc. Sometimes 10 bucks a night, which was big dough for a kid in 1972.
I went to work for an ARCO station at Market and Orange in LB at 16, and slowly phased out the catering gig by Christmas of my senior year. Getting home from a catering gig at 1am and getting up for school at 6, then going to the gas station at 2 after school was wearing my ass out...worked doing lube jobs/oil changes and running the pumps at ARCO until I graduated in '76 and left LB for NorCal.
Went to college carried full load and worked on a water well drilling rig for 2 years til I got on with the cop shop...
No wonder it seemed like I'd been working forever.
When I write this down I guess I did.

15- Worked for a janitorial service. Dude had the contract to clean the local Smorgy bobs. I had a key, would go in after hours to vacuum carpet and hose down kitchen floor. Oh and they served beer and wine so I kind of helped myself.;)
21-Drove tow truck for the local AAA contract station. Pretty cool job but the 3 AM phone calls kind of sucked.
25-Hired on with Caltrans. Still there, been there 23 years now waiting till I can retire.

First Job at 16 was at Trader Joes on Rosemead across from Fowlers before it burned down.

I heard it burning from my house, we drove up and parked across the street and watched it burn. It used to be Don's Market before it was Trader Joes.

The Trader Joe's guys would heist beers and trade em for burritos from us. LOL I would call up the chicks at 31 Flavors and trade out burgers for Ice Cream....

Did you grow up in the neighborhood? When? I lived on San Pasqual from 1968 to 1984.

I started working at a gas station in Grand Terrace at 15-16. At 18 I started working in construction at a house on the north shore in Lake Arrowhead. The house I worked on later became Liberace house. After that I was a truck driver for Super Shops. This was when San Bernardino Racing Equipment first started to expand and had three stores. I then went back to construction as a union laborer on a townhouse project at Beach and Malvern in Buena Park. I worked for a lot of different construction companies after that. I got tired of being layer off after Thanksgiving every year so I got a job at Home Depot in San Bernardino. That was short lived because of getting hurt on the job. I started my own business as a Home Inspector in 2003. In October of that year I got an account with IndyMac Bank doing draw inspections until 2007. I tried the mortgage business for a year. I started work with Magic Powerboats in 08. In 09 I started my handyman business and then the summer of 2010 I started selling the beef jerky and will probably do this till the end

My first job I broke into a drive up photomat collected about 50 bucks in change and some film. That job lasted about a week every other night till they figured out how I was getting in. Second job I hired a couple buddies and broke into a skate board factory, I think we pulled that off about 3 times. That job didn't last long either. By that time I was 15 and my dad had me roping houses when ever I wasn't in school. The rest is history.:D

Mowing lawns when I was in 4th grade.
Then wanted a gym membership, so started working 30 hours per week at a local gym when I was 14.
When I turned 16 I started working full time at a local pizza place, and have worked full time ever since.

First Job at 16 was at Trader Joes on Rosemead across from Fowlers before it burned down.

I was working at Big 5 up the street from Fowlers. Saw the fire and wandered down to watch the excitement. Ammo started popping of and hauled ass out of there.

First job McDonald's. Before they had breakfast!
