I bought an old grey skiff, the year was 1969 and I was in 7th grade. Me and a buddy fixed it up and coated it with a fresh coat of Navy Gray paint. I found an engine got it running and somehow conned someone to haul it down to King Harbor. I bet we weren't in the water more than an hour and the Harbor Patrol busted us for no registration, boat was too long. So I pulled the engine and we headed home with a citation and an engine I no longer had any use for.

81' 19' Sanger Family Ski Boat has slight V and was great running boat. We bought this winter 94' I was 24... holy crap time flies.... Gutted the boat, stripped the fadded red anno off everything. Only ran on 7 cylinders when we bought it and the son of a B was freaking loud. Ended up having a bent valve and broken spark plug in one of the holes where it had sucked the screws from the 660 center squirters into a cylinder and pounded them into the top of the freaking 13:1 piston. Sold the tunnel ram and headers went to Nicson logs and thru transom with a single 4 and new 10:1 pistons... she is still running today in my Blue Sanger :) This was a blast to build with my Dad, we rebuilt the trailer as well.

I loved this boat but guttered her like a pig three years later when I bought my 77 18'6" Sanger which I eventually named "Stupid Move" I still have that 77' and I call her that name (behind her back) until I drive it :) My Sister owns the Yellow Sanger, I traded my BIL the yellow hull to plaster my Garage.

Mine was a ‘71 hondo flat with a 400” SBC when I was 18. Guy said it ran 80 which I felt was reasonable because nobody would lie about a flat that went that slow. It barely ran once it was in the water. Once I figured out the total timing was around 5 degrees AFTER TDC, and put it where it goes, it ran about 40mph. On my second test run at the river the prop shaft pulled outta the coupler, tore up the prop and bent the rudder. I put it on the trailer, towed it home and traded it to a buddy for a carton of smokes.

My first boat was a 26' Sleekcraft Executive with a Harman 440, purchased new in 1979. I was 22. Sleekcraft didn't have a dealer in Texas, I called up Bruce Nescher and he agreed to sell it to me for $750 over dealer cost.

I drove from Houston to Santa Fe Springs, handed him a cashier's check for $16K, and came home with the coolest boat I thought existed.

I hope your a good story teller as I would like to now more detail of the build.
Yes, there is a story to it. I saw an article in Science & Mechanics magazine that you could build your own boat for $20.00 and a week's spare time.
So I sent in my $5.00 to buy the plans. Summer vacation had just started so that was going to be my project for the summer. It took all summer, not a week as advertised
and it cost $100.00 which doesn't sound like a lot today, but for a 14 year old kid who's only income was a paper route that made me about $20.00 a month it was a very lot of money. It was a great experience and as you can see in one of the pictures there is two boats. I eventually sold my boat to a good friend (he painted it black) and I bought a nicer one that an adult neighbor had built (he was a professional carpenter). The two of us used to go to Hansen Dam and race our boats with each other. Fun times.
I later bought an old beat up DeSilva 10' Class D racing hydro and restored it and put a Mercury MK55 outboard with a Quick Silver racing lower unit on it. That boat ran about 55 MPH.

I had use of the family Glaspar at age 11. We boated Cabrillo Beach a couple weekends a month and I took that sucka all over the LA Harbor and out past the Angels Gate and down to Belmont Shore on a couple of occasions. It was usually friends my age with me or my sisters, no adults.

Found a photo of the Glaspar running it hard at Ski Land.

When I graduated college Dad gave me the family jet boat as my graduation present to make room for his Hallett. I fixed it up and rocked it a few years.

The first boat I bought myself is my current Schiada
