I sold Ciro Mancuso two new Nautique boats. He ran a 140million dollar drug ring. His daughter was famous too, but for a better reason; she won a gold medal, silver and bronze in the Olympics in skiing.

Even took him water skiing behind one of our shop boats a few times at Boca Reservoir and Donner lake as he lived in Truckee (trying to find the photos of him ripping some turns). When he wasn't spending time in the mountains, he was surfing out his front door his beach house in Maui. Poor guy, hahaha. Still had tons of money and owned a lot of property in California (Truckee /Tahoe and Nevada). Definitely didn't give it all back to feds I guess. Probably had millions buried.

The night stalker Richard Ramirez struck two houses from mine while we lived there in Diamond bar . Happened in Aug 1985 , we lived on Fern Hollow Dr . Cops taped off my neighbors and our yard where there was a set of rose bushes were they did a plaster footprint . There was a green belt next to the fwy that had stairs going down into the green belt were they said he was there for a night or 2 . Dogs kept barking for two nights .

A good friend of mine once owned a very successful Defense Law Firm in OC. After a while they got out of the criminal defense business and concentrated on personal injury. While doing the criminal defense they once had to let go of a client because of “conflict of interest”. It was Ramirez. They were already defending his cousin and apparently they both may have been involved in some of the same murders. He used to tell me that criminal defense business could be about as sleazy as it gets. There were times he’d arrive at the office and see some homeless looking guy(s) sleeping on the pavement in their parking lot. He said you had to be careful because there were times those guys sleeping in the parking lot would later wake up and come into their office with shopping bags full of cash, to pay their legal fees. I also asked him how could he justify defending some of these creeps. He told me they’d do their best to get them a quick and just trial. He said some police departments were known to try to clear their files on one perpetrator guilty of a particular crime. The personal injury law often meant their client was one of the large insurance companies. He said some of the scams people tried to pull off on their Home Owner’s Policies were ridiculous. He also said it was not uncommon for a minor to have to sue their parent in order to get an insurance company to pay for certain coverages.

My bad - I confused Ramirez with Bianchi. It was Bianchi, the Hillside Strangler, who was once a client at my buddy’s law firm.

I wouldnt say infamous but shook hands and talked with Yancy Robert Andrews maybe an hour after he got back from disposing of his sisters body just after killing her. My step dad is a residential contractor and Phyllis (the mother) was a client. We were supposed to start a remodel that morning but when we got there she was in a panic because they couldn't find Rebecca. Looked like some one broke in and robbed the place. We hung around for a while to see if we could help in any way eventually leaving as it didnt seem right to start working.
I still get chills thinking about this. Yancy was so calm and casual talking to us while his mother was worried. He was even consoling his mom, bringing us coffee and greeted the police when they showed up. Little did we all know what had just transpired a couple hours earlier. Fucking crazy and you never know who you are really talking to!

Crazy world that is for sure. Back in '78 just out of high school I was ordered to be a third wheel as a chaperone on a beach day date. (Dad made me go he knew if this guy crossed the line in any way I would easy be able to put him down at the time, or so we all thought). Kenneth Bianchi, known as the Hillside Strangler, that was known for committing at least 12 rapes and murders, most in conjunction with his adoptive cousin Angelo Buono who owned an upholstery shop in Glendale ca.. At first meet kenny seemed like a OK guy but at the beach he started to creep me out, he did absolutely nothing and was very polite and respectful BUT my gut was turning and I had no clue why. We ended the day with no issue, 2nd visit we went to his uncles upholstery shop and again I was ORDERED to go with so I did. At the shop the uncle Angelo seemed very nice but he also turned my gut for no reason that I could see not sure why but he did... finally we went to their shop a 3rd time and were hanging out with both Kenny and Angelo and my family member got the creepy feeling and when we left she said nope nope nope no way will I ever go out with him again I don't know why but NOPE!. Like 10-15 months later we found out who they were and what they did, my family member totally freaked out, we all thought WOW this could have ended her life in the most terrible way. Once they were jailed she was scared shitless that he may get out, I made a promise that if either got out I would be the one going to jail, thankfully he died in prison and so did his POS uncle.

51 years in the car business, a ton of stories of con men and crooks. My friends tell me I should write a book. Not sure if it would be a comedy or a drama? One of my favorites was the guy who showed up to buy a new Expedition. Thankfully he went to the bank and got his own loan. Used paperwork from his ex-wife's company to get financed. He never owned any part of the business. I got a call from a friend that sold him a house full of furniture. She was worried about getting paid and he already had the furniture. When he showed up to get the Expedition, he gave me the keys to a new Mercedes and told me to have some fun with it, he would be back in a few weeks. Things start to feel odd. I hid the car, and track down the owner on the registration (she was from Cincinnati Ohio). He was suppose to be handing it back over to his ex-wife. Had a long talk with her. Dude is a con-man. Before she could come get the car, her cabin burned down on the lake. The only thing she did not protect, he had his name on the insurance yet. He moved all the new furniture to another one of our customers storage garages. So he gets arrested for arson ,the Expedition get repossessed, the furniture store got all of it's stuff back. She rebuilt the house, I go by it all the time in the boat. He never made 20/20 that I know of. But he got taken down by a bunch of small town hicks. LOL

When I worked at Cole CPD we had a contract to service all PD, SO and CHP cars , A new "hire" apparently didnt know that so when a Black and White rolled in , He took off from his work stall on a dead run thru the parking lot , turned out he was a "wanted criminal"

I was going with a Girl when I was in my 20's whose Father was a day shift patrol Sargeant for the Seattle PD, I worked as a hard chrome plater in a big shop with a huge bay door next to where I worked. Roger would stop in and hang out checking out what I was working on, he thought chrome plating was fascinating.

More than once when he parked where most everyone in the shop could see his car and then him walking through the bay door someone would take off running, he thought it was funny as hell.

Roger was an old school cop, he wasn't out to arrest everybody, just the really bad people.

When I was in high school I delivered pizzas to him, he lived in San Antonio Heights, all the drivers would fight to deliver to him because it was always a great tip. One time I took a couple pizzas to his place, he opens the door in a robe with topless girls walking by. He paid one of the guys to hang his Christmas lights also.

When I was in junior high I would go hang out with some older guys @RVRKID friends, that worked at the local 76 station on Friday nights, these guys were in highschool, gas pump jockeys, there was still a full service island and people would come through to find out where the highschool partys were. From about 5:30pm to 10:00 pm the highschool guys were in charge of the place before the night shift guy came in. It was a really cool time and place to be in our little town, still had a small town vibe. Around that time period Will Nix was larger than life, car dealership with tv commercials, wore a big gold medallion around his neck that said “WILL NIX”. That guy would come through there all gilled up on coke to fuel up his super rad cars and motorcycles, drove a cobra around quite often. It was the Will Nix show when he pulled in, always had hot chicks, fast cars, and big money. He would tell us crazy stories, I remember he said that it was not a good idea to open the top on a mustang convertible at 80mph, but his service department was able to fix it I liked the guy, he was a charectors charector.

The other got into a relationship with a hooker, and together they robbed a diamond dealer in a Vegas hotel room, and killed him when he resisted. In 1993 I was the Project Manager and Super 7PM to 7 AM on a 7/24 project at City Walk in Univeral City. It was the 1st phase TI build out of a special effects photography studo before Photoshop was even conceive. Michael Jackson came in with his entourage at 1 in the Morning just as we were wrapping it up. I sat and talked to him for 1/2 an hour while the scenes were set up. Honestly he didn’t seem to come off as he is currently portrayed. I have copies of the pics of him taken that night (somewhere) but I’d have to look for them.

The books an interesting read. So much happening around me as a kid I had no idea. I knew everywhere he describes. Reading about monsters you actually know is an unsettling feeling. You know who they are and what they do. But you don't know specific details unless you're inside. Frankly if you're on the outside you don't want to know. You just want to be friendly and stay on their good side.
