This was his first day out with a brand new motor in it. Was talking with him at the bar. Got up went to the restroom and saw this. One wave is all it took. I felt so bad for him. He had to call salvage.

Haha, same thing happened to a buddys boat years ago. He pulled it out, drained all the water and oil out of the engine and tanks. Filled the whole thing with diesel fuel and let it sit for 2 days. Drained the diesel, replaced all the filters, filled with oil and gas, and away we went. Ran a little rough for the first tank and then never sputtered again. Pickling with diesel definitely works.

I've done the exact thing too about 3 years ago visiting friends at Emerald. Literally two waves, I barely had the boat unloaded. Called my Dad crying I was so pissed, he goes hunny that's what called expensive boating lessons. Needless to say bow out was the saying of the day.

One too many Road Rapers!!! Oh wait... wrong bar...

We actually have a pic of our friend, passed out cold in his boat, with two Road Raper cups in hand :champagne:... like he was going to bail out all the water...

But the boat was running the next morning...

No need to pull the motor, just drain the oil, change the filter, and fire it up. Drain it again, new filter, and fire it up.....The circle guys do it all the time after a boat goes over, as long as nothing was "hydro'd" inside......You might get a little "milk" in the valve covers, but the moisture will eventually dry up.....Ray

Gotta Blame someone for the sickies.
I'd wager there were probably no WB boats on the water at all.

It's the huge wakes from Eliminator V hulls that always swamp us.

Don't forget to drain the v-drive and refill or you'll be doin a rebuild. Rusted parts in the v-drive add up pretty quick.

I agree, we've had several "Under Water experiences" over the years. Get the boat back on the trailer by whatever means, pull the plugs, drain the oil, empty the carburators, reverse the process, and fire it up! Assuming there are no bent rods from running underwater! (That's when kill switches come in handy)

so whos at fault?

the guy not watchin his boat? (i think not!)

or someone being careless with their large wake?

those wake barges need to be held responsible for the damage they cause.

i know its close to impossible to prove who did it....but threads like this get me a little hot under the collar as a low freeboard boat owner as well.

sorry but imo if you leave, dock or beach a low freeboard boat (let alone use one) on a busy day in parker then you are askin for it. everyone can cry all they want about the one guy in the wakeboard boat causing a giant wake but there are 50 other boats going by too at the same time. do i like it? hell no but they are just trying to have a fun day on the water just like everyone else. it sucks but nowadays theres a time and place for a boat like that.

maybe theres a time and place for boats over 25'....and/or boats that have a soul purpose to make big wakes.

im not saying to ban large boats or wake board boats from areas of the river....i just think consideration needs to be had. and those who lack common courtesy should be held accountable for the damage they cause.

maybe so but they aren't the ones that don't have to worry about gettin swamped. i worry about getting swamped (and have) in my daycruiser. besides the bluewater, i do not like taking my boat to fox's, roadrunner, etc, unless its after dark. im constantly worried about it. people should be accountable for what they do, is it gonna happen on a busy day at the river? probably not. with that being said, i just don't put my boat in the situation.

If they made the entire river a no wake zone, problem is solved. How fun would that be in a jetboat:rolleyes:

Hopefully it will clean up ok.

Maybe a sign at Foxies:

"Boats left unattended will be sunk" please watch your boat"

People lay blame on the WB dudes but seem to forget those big go fasts are heavier, have a wider beam and throw a bigger wake than a WB boat at 20-30 mph.

If you don't watch your boat then you can't blame anyone else for your problems. ON that note, you can't leave a flat bottom on the beach, or on a dock. I don't think you could've done that even back in the 70's when it was almost entirely flat bottoms out there.

maybe theres a time and place for boats over 25'....and/or boats that have a soul purpose to make big wakes.

There already is a law, and everyone is responsible for the damage their wake causes.. Ultimately it will be that law that is our undoing. IMO The greenies will use it on an erosion lawsuit.

Yeah.... No. Sorry Coz, having been around both, there's no way.. Wakeboats, and other boats of that nature almost always run 1/2 on plane when the water is anything but glass.. because they ride pretty rough. They throw monster wakes as they were designed to do.

I'm going to start by saying I wasn't there and don't know the circumstances.

I will say, I have parked my flatty (and walked away) at Road runner, foxes and Sundance and never sunk it. I've also spent many a 3 day weekend in Havasu.

Growing up, we used to shore camp at Lake Mead occasionally (Dad owned flatbottoms).

In my experience a flatbottom or low jet can survive the onslaught of ocean going nerds and wakeboarders at the river (Havasu included). All that is needed is sobriety and common sense.

Here's an example of what I consider a dork. Someone taking a big ol' grandpa boat to the avi. Wouldn't it be more fun to take this barge to Mead Tahoe or Newport harbor? People are unbelieveable these days.:grumble:

i took some big waves at roadrunner easter weekend and all i did was drink a beer go pull the bilge go back drinks another beer and go back and pull the bilge.i wasnt worried about it til some moron came within 10 feet of the bar and then a couple swells filled multiple peoples boats parked including mine.some people just dont have the common sense or realize how close they get and whats gonna happen after they do a drive by.in the end i had to bail some water out tof the interior part of the boat and i was off.i look at it as smal boat (low freeboard) your gonna have to expect this and just be more cuatious if your gonna roll to theses types of places.it is what it is

It's more of a common sense campaign. Would you park a flatty "ass out" and then start drinking Dave? ;)

that and a coulple of road raper cups worked great:D. i would of thrown an anchor out and face the boat out but it was a little crowded to start with and my little dingy wasnt worth the waist of hogging space

Automatic bilges are your friend....

With my flat there was not a bilge pump in the world that would have kept me afloat.

Casino toon, wake, two shots over the transom, and plunk. About 3 seconds...maybe.

Rule of the day...don't break down in rough water with a flat.
