WTB Truck for my son

Looking for a good used reliable truck for my soon to be 16 year old son. He loves Ford Rangers (crazy how popular these trucks are with teens) but I like the idea of a F150 or 1500 since he rides dirtbikes he can put a few in the bed and go. Not wanting to spend a ton of money, somewhere up to $14000 would be good. Either registered in AZ or CA would be ok.

I wouldn't rule out a ranger. Had one in college. Easily fits 2 bikes and gear. I have had 3 bikes in it (2 front facing, middle one was backwards) but no room for gear. Gets decent mpg and small enough to daily drive. I would get a stick as they are down on power.

My son had 2 Rangers, one in highschool, the other right after. If you're looking at Rangers, make sure it's an Extra Cab, he's gonna need the room for gear bags, and jackets, or backpack when he's going to school.
I'd also make sure you're only looking at the 4.0 motors, they're a great motor and tons of power for a little truck.
Also like mentioned above, you can definitely fit a dirtbike or 2 in the bed.

Young buck teens do love these vintage Rangers and basically any pickup these days.... I'd suggest something like ole Fernando if he likes to mechanically tinker...This was built by a desert guy who wanted to haul his 16 yr old daughters bike out with his for rides together... but be warned about gas mileage on the larger older models with V8s

The crazy part is when my dad bought it four or so years prior, he bought it on a whim at some random used car dealership he was passing. Knew he paid too much for it at $9,000 but it’s what he wanted so he didn’t care. Fast-forward to Covid pricing and BOOM.

I found a great deal on a 2003 Ranger Xtra cab...all stock but the guy bought a long travel kit and front and rear fiberglass fenders for it.
Truck has 187k miles but is clean enough for me to cut it apart and build it with my son.
Thank you to all who helped with this.
I will post a build thread when I get the truck home.
