[WTB] WTB - 4 seat RZR or Can-Am

So I fully admit I know almost zero about UTVs except I want one for Havasu and looking to buy now.

We recently rented a house on the island and I want a car to take the wife and two golden retrievers to the beach (1000 yards) and to roll around this winter. I do not need to be the coolest or fastest but would like ready to go, street legal, and reliable.

The last UTV I owned, and still own here in California is a Rhino 660. I looked at buying another Rhino 660 and they seem to be around 5-6K ready to go but a 4 door would be easier.

I checked out Facebook Marketplace and find myself looking at the RZR 1000 and they seem to be around 15K but I have no idea what accessories are the must haves, what is high milage, or what years to avoid.

So.... lets say $15,000 +/- a bit or a deal so good I could use it a year and still cash out even.... what should I buy?

Coworker has a nice low mileage 2 door Jeep Sahara TJ 4.0 auto he's gonna put up for sale soon. Just had the trans serviced, AC blows cold and fresh oil change and tires. Think he wants 11k

Street legal but it is in California right now. If interested I am coming to Willow Valley next Tuesday and I could bring it.

393 hours/6862 miles
Fluids always changed ahead of schedule, just serviced the clutch with new sliders, one way bearing and governer cup
me and my wife routinely go on 100 mile loops with this car by ourselves and it has never let us down...Super reliable!!
I'll let it go for 20k today...Located in Havasu...street legal and title in hand.

I would be looking for a low mileage turbo rzr. No offense to anyone but i personaally would never buy a sxs with over say 2500miles unless you want to start replacing big dollar stuff. High mileage stuff is hard to sell.

Find a garage queen with low miles.

Lots of improvements compared to the 1000 for not that much more. There are guys on here that would be better on telling you what years are more reliable with updates/fixes.

It also really depends on how you plan to use it. Are you going to hit the trails and if you do do you plan to ride hard? Are you riding w others in a group? You want to kinda have the same capabilities of the cars you ride with. Car to car , cage , radios, seatbelts 4/5 point, rims and tires all these are not a must but makes a ride much more comfortable. I would personally go with 2015 and up and around 2500 miles max How the shocks are set up is also important. I’m sure there are plenty in here w way more experience than I have but this is in a nutshell what I would look for. If you plan on drinking a cup of coffee and it’s to travel from point A to B disregard everything I wrote

A few things to know….

Friends / family what do they have, Who would you go for a ride with?

Need to look at how you plan to use it,
during winter you want to go out all day and run to topoc or bunker bar or the cabin etc then SXS is better. And you should go do some if these with a group
if you just plan to stay close by and run around the island, maybe the sand dunes out behind Blondzee’s and zip up the 95 to bunker bar then it’s a jeep

jeep vrs sxs cliff notes

jeep heat & AC easy to drive, zip around town and mild off-road but sucks on Havasu trails very slow and washboard easy to put the dogs in and go down to the beach , grocery & shopping

SXS no heat & no AC for $15K, noisy / loud need headphones & radio to talk while out running around it’s more enjoyable, in the 15k range you might be buying a money pit, rzr’s transmission goes out it’s 1500 to 4,000. SXS is great off road in and around the Havasu trails, you need to be somewhat mechanical inclined and able to swap out a belt when they pop

in your price range a Rzr is probably the better bang for the buck, look for one that has low miles. Or look for one that has been fixed up -
trans mission the bearings can go out between 2-3,000 miles / updated rebuilt turbo if you go w/ turbo car etc.

the can am that is listed above is a good car!

My 2018 can am has 7,500 miles on it & runs like a champ ! I plan to add another 2,000 + miles this season.
We typically do longer multi day rides
However -
w/ a higher milage car typically needs more maintenance to make sure you have a good winter & a trouble free season.

so my list of maintenance items for this summer is -
frt A arm bushings
new shock oil and seals
new oil all around motor trans diffs & coolant
new ball joints
new belt
New brake pads all around
check all movable joints for loose wobble / play

during this process I find a few other things that need to be looked at
