Unfortunately That’s how a lot of people get a pay increase.

Finding good replacement people is difficult and usually costs more.
exactly. i didnt tell him he was still shy of the new offer, but told him my mind is made and im out in 2 weeks. did everything i could to help the guys i was leaving.

Good for you for putting your balls on the table.

I’m considering doing the same next month myself.
I applied for an open position which I’m am currently backfilling free of charge. It’s been 2 months with no interview scheduled.

Contemplating pulling my application, the way I see it is if my performance for 2 months hasn’t convinced you this deserve his job then nothing I say in a good interview will.

To be in your position with that knowledge is
Fantastic.
Plus the guts . That’s Where most people fail.
The last couple years pointed that out. With the Covid bs .
There afraid to do what is right and you saw millions , just go with the flow

I never have been and to stupid to be in your position .
I have been self employed for close to 40 years
And stayed true to my heart
Even if it fails.

Life is to short to put up with BS
Good luck
Cheers

I never had the balls to do that....I timidly grew some when I was forced into a spot, and it's worked out OK....I'm withholding judgment for a bit here. You've read my thread about starting my own business....it's a mess, but maybe an OK mess. lol.

Life is too short to work for someone else.....I really don't care if I'm making money or not, I don't hate getting up and heading out to the shop now, which I did hate for the last 10 years. Change is a necessary. best of luck in your new position. Don't cave.

I have worked in my industry for my whole professional career, started with some smaller companies and have worked my way through MANY positions with a few different companies....there are 4 major players in the industry, with a bunch of smaller niche ones....the previous company I worked for was #4, when I received an offer for where I am at now at the #1....I gave a 3.5 week notice, planning on going over my projects, possibly training the guy I thought should take my place, etc...within 1.5 hours of sending my resignation letter I was locked out of everything before my boss even called me...everything was just turned off and I was done...they basically said see ya later!

Literally, was at my new company about 3 months, and I get a call from the VP of the previous company and he's in town and wants to meet...so I agree to meet him at a bar for a drink...he wants me to come back, asks me what it would take....I couldn't believe my ears, I couldn't understand why they would let me walk if they valued my work so much....in the end, he put together a pretty solid offer, one that was better then where I was at with the new place...but I turned it down solely because I felt like they had their chance and at the time didn't even bother with an exit interview...I am completely happy where I am at and I haven't looked back since..
I like that story!

I would need a bonus money up front, to hang around, and see if I’m happy. 😉

Having owned a light manufacturing business, then working as an executive for the buyer of said business, I’ve been on the other side of this a number times. I can’t recall a single case in which I gave concessions to an employee to keep him/her around, and they didn’t resign or get fired within less than two years. I finally realized that if someone is unhappy, it’s not going to change.

You should do what feels best for you and your wife, but my prediction is in.
Yup, it's a lose/lose for both you & the employer if you take up their counter offer. If someone's heading out the door, they will end up out of there no matter what.

We literally bumped a guy from 50 to 70 hr because he knew we needed him at that moment, and we fired his ass within 2 months.

Like you guys, I am on pins and needles here..

I did hear from my boss, who informed me that he had spoken to the president, and agreed with one section of the offer. He didnt tell me what it was, and didnt give me any clues.

But by the way he worded in a text message. I think that I will be offerred a VP position, which puts me over my current boss.. Thats the key reason I think the president would have talked to him about… Again, thats what I think… guessing game…

But I am confident I should hear something pretty soon.

The longer this takes, at least I know a counter offer is coming. But as I have stated, I think its just prolonging the agony. I truly doubt I will accept it, unless its game changing, I doubt thats something they are in a position to do. Because it would mean pissing off lots of people over one person.

Like you guys… just guessing at this point.

I think I’d still leave, if I was in your position. You’re frustrated and fed up, so what will actually change if you stay, regardless if they give you a promotion or increase in powers? It’s a culture problem and it goes up as much as it goes down you can’t change the up part and changing the down part won’t matter if the up part is still doing stupid things.

You leaving might shock them into change, but im guessing that still won’t solve their corporate issues.

Sounds as if you have outgrown your employer and you should start your own company. I've made this recommendation to many an employee over the years..
This is a massive multi billion dollar company… Yeah… I dont think I can crowd fund a couple billion to get started.

The last time I had a resignation letter put on my desk I accepted it and told the person good luck. Never burn a bridge on the way out.
100% agree. I always wished them the best and never wanted to hold anyone back but the truth was I always paid very well proportionately to performance. Over half the people who quite later asked for their jobs back. I hired a few back but most we never even noticed were gone.

Putting pay aside, are they going to correct what you need done to make you stay? If they are just going to pay you more but not correct what you need to do your job, are you going to be happy? Whatever you decide, leave on a good note. If you feel the need to vent, write down whatever it is and read it a day later before sending it.

I truly hope for the best outcome for you here.

I constantly wonder why folks openly discuss private, life altering decisions with strangers that you will never meet.

Your plans are out there on the inter webs for literally anyone to see.
I found out that somebody on here knew my old employer before I started my business (30 years ago) but nonetheless, he knew him. Had I vented on here, my business plan could have been fucked and my life might have been different.

Again, good luck and hoping for the best for you

dick😆
department or division VP is different than company VP. Like VP of marketing or VP of finance, VP of; product development, sales, HR, property management etc. There can also be 50 VPs of the same job title in different “regions” all around the world in a large corp. He could be 1 of hundreds.

Never go backwards. Up to you to make sure what they offer you is several steps forward however a Leopard cannot change his spots and you may just live in the same world of frustration with a different title.

Best of luck to you.

I'll jump in here and offer my $0.02

Having worked for a megacorp for over 20 years and reaching Sr Engineering Manager level in Corporate Research and Development..,There came a point where the "C Suite" became an impediment to complete success. They would only allow about 35% of what I would have done. Never going balls deep to take the 90% market share. They wanted to remain at no more exposed than 35 to 40% because if theft them room to sell the division if the need to raise cash ever became necessary. Also a 90% market share scared them because of previous and successful anti-trust suits and the subsequent breakup as a result.

Hope it works out well for you.

You strike me as one of the more intelligent guys on here.... I'm thinking this thread's got the scent of a well known past banned member on it..... but I've been partying since noon so there is that.

Wow.. Some of the posts…
First I dont have time to dig into all of them, when I have had 5 hours of sleep in the last 48 hours.

ASSUMPTIONS… fuck me… the assumptions that some make, and assume as fact, JUST DONT FUCKING APPLY.. Instead of calling people out, like I am known to do… I just don’t have the energy tonight… Even though I just started my third bourbon…

Lets just get to reality. In my professional life… do you think I share everything? Fuck no.
In my personal life… do you think I share everything… fuck no…

Especially on public forums. There may be one person in all of RDP who knows where I work… ONE… I can guarantanfuckintee… no one in my professional life has ever heard of RDP…

Quit that stupid nonsense right now.

I have been given a few details of what the offer will be, but those details are not coming from the President. From what I am hearing from the internal peeps. He is fighting tooth and nail to get what he wants, but is getting serious resistance, because that creates larger problems. As in, the fallout of giving me what I want, is not worth the political price the executive team is willing to pay.

Right now… I may not get the offer… I know the president if fighting hard, but that doesn not mean he will win the war.

Based on that info alone, even if he where to win…. I would be put in a no win situation, because of the enemys created in that process.

Pretty sure my fate is sealed. Hopefully they dont even put an offer on the table. Which makes my life alot easier.

Spoke with a buddy of mine… “Randy” who was a mentor to me many years ago.
We worked very closely for many years on some huge SDGE projects back in the day.

He is older than me, one of the best substation engineers on the planet. Would alway take my calls, answer my questions, and give me advice, even when I didnt ask for it.

Well he is now in a new role, that put him out of his comfort zone. He called me today. Havent spoke to him in 5 years. He is calling me because his new role, which he knows very little about, happens to be what I used to be an expert at.

So I address all of his questions with infinite details. Why, because he did that for me numerous times, when I was a young pup.

When we get past me giving him the answers to all of his questions… I literally outlined the position I am in that this thread outlines.

Randy got right to the point. “Dude, I know you, why are you beating your self up when you have already made up your mind. You set a path, the moment you agreed to the new position. You cant forgive yourself if you try to take that back. Accept it and move on”..

Thats why I love Randy… I havent seen the offer yet. It may or may not come. That dude gets me, and probably why he is a mentor to me.. even though I am pushing 52 years old. Got rattled in my own head, as smart I think I am, one simple statement from a friend puts shit in perpective pretty fucking quick.

I will do the politically correct thing to do.. I will listen to the new offer. Tell them I will think about it, and politely decline, hopefully convince them to make the necessary changes, and extend those promotions to my key team mates who have a chance of righting the the ship.

Damn… The moral of story. I CARE ABOUT MY TEAM, I CARE ABOUT MY WORD/REPUTATION. That got me to this point, right/wrong. If I didn’t care, I probably would not be in this position, and would have been locked out within minutes of my resignation letter.

Thanks for riding this wave with me…
Pretty sure this wave has hit the beach…

Time for a new adventure with a team that hopefully cares for me, and I hope to care for them. With out a team, you have nothing.

3.5 bit site.
Dave gets docked .5 because he's self admittedly late to his own events.

If I have the timing correct, you submitted your resignation on Tuesday night, and had multiple conversations about what it would take for you to stick around on Wed. It's now Fri, and you don't have a solid response, correct? I would move on to your next opportunity and don't look back.

I had a similar situation back in 2021, and am very happy that I made the move. The grass isn't always greener on the other side, but when you clearly see the yard full of weeds where you are it might be time for a change.

Good on you for having the difficult convos.
I can’t imagine the anxiety I would feel if I was in your position.

I think posting it on the forum has to be cathartic to help your mind deal with everything.

You already made the decision to leave because of the resistance from above for the company to become successful. Do you really think those that have been putting up resistance are automatically going to give you what you have been requesting? No, they’re going to be pissed that you talked to the president and ratted them out. You may get more money, but your headaches will be larger and more frequent. As was mentioned earlier, listen to the offer, tell them you want to think about it overnight then politely decline the offer and start on your new position with a new company.

Whatever your decision is I wish you good luck.
