Would you still boat if the Colorado river dried up tomorrow?

I’ve thought about this. I can say with confidence I’d be out. I can’t afford a place in North Lake Tahoe and Florida would be the next best thing in my mind but I hate humidity. What would you do? Would you still boat or like me does anywhere else look like a distant second?

Get rid of the boat, keep the Sea Doos.

There will always be a suitable body of water somewhere.
You’re lucky I guess.

My boating consists of the river south of Needles Bridge, Pirates, Topok Gorge and the Sandbar. I also split my time between the river and Lake Mohave and a couple trips to Lake Powell each season. If all that was gone I’d be out.

I thought the Columbia River was pretty cool...

But I liked the town of Sand Point a lot...

I've been going to Havasu and Parker for just about 50 years. I truthfully don't even recognize it anymore.

I miss the old Sundance and the way Havasu Used to be.

There are tons of other places to boat.

Got our ass beat this afternoon at 3pm from 3 dunes to springs. I think the pacific is out for the 28 magic. Took a beating. Ripped the screws right out of the fiberglass storage compartment lid.

I get it. Half the reason I love the river is that I love the heat and the desert. If I ever get tired of boating or the river dries I’ll probably buy a place near Palm Springs and spend my weekends by the pool and golfing.

My wife is part owner of a couple of family lakefront cabins on Lake Tahoe. The problem is the distance from San Diego to Tahoe. I would probably go back to boating in the ocean.

Not a bad view of the lake from the deck:

I'm old and there's not a chance in hell that the river will go dry in my lifetime. Now if I move to Seizure World as planned I'll get a skip jack and hit the pacific. I just might take up drinking and gambling as a hobby.

expand your boating horizons. there are tons of lakes and water ways all over. even in California. you just have to open your eyes and look. Havasu, Parker, Mohave etc are not the end all be all (as I also once thought once upon a time).

Colorado existed before any reservoir. Pump the great lakes the new leo base by topock might need it.😁

Wouldn’t even blink. “The river” as you guys call it is about 1 millionth of a percent of what’s available to boat on.
Especially in CA.
Havasu and the river are not the best pure boating areas, not by a long shot. They ARE, however, the in place to be, and convenient from SoCal, and awesome in there own way, and I get that.
But no…Hell no…the Colorado drying up tomorrow would mean nothing to me besides my new house depreciating.
Then again, I’ve actually been in a boat on the Colorado river IN Colorado…and that’s a whole different deal.
There’s a difference between being a boater, and being a fan of the river and havasu and owning a boat just for that.

nope…but I have boated on the Ohio river in 3 different States, and crossed it at both its narrowest (Wheeling WV) and it’s widest (Kentucky)

I’m sure I would enjoy other lakes and rivers temporarily but it wouldnt be the same as the river lifestyle I have access to now. I have a home at the river and there is a ton of boating convenience in that. I also love the desert, the heat, dry air and warm water we have. I know I wouldn’t get the same enjoyment out of boating if my only trips were towing hundreds of miles, staying in a hotel and towing back each time to waterways that aren’t the river and aren’t the desert climate. And probably only doing it a handful of times a year. I may come across as a well-to-do snob but I can assure you I’m not rich and I like to think I’m pretty normal and down to earth. (Haha.. I suppose everyone would say that about themselves) Anyway I was just curious what others would do. Maybe I’m alone in this thought. I know the river isn’t going to dry up so luckily I won’t have to make this decision. The thought crossed my mind and I thought I’d throw it out here.

Red circle shows new boating location. View attachment 1272712
Ya maybe. I grew up in that circle so I’m well aware. I’m more of an inner water way guy. There is a guy on YouTube I follow called Sailing Doodles and that guy is living his best life in the Mediterranean Sea. I think he’s been at sea for a few years. Thought provoking.
