Am I the only guy with a granite top?

IKEA Stainless Steel front bottom cabinets topped with a slab of black granite.

Heavy, but the big drawers are nice. Plus someone paid me to haul it off. LOL

I was gonna build a bench, then saw this at Home Depot.

I’d have $50 in lumber alone before I started cutting, seemed good value to me.

The top is MDF so I’m gonna put two coats of Shellac, then some clear polyurethane, over the top of it based on suggestions from a woodworking forum.

Put a piece of Masonite on top of that and you're all set. When the Masonite looks like crap you can turn it over or put a new sheet on top (just don't glue it down). See what Kevin did (below). And he used a Kreg jig to build his bench :D

Built my bench over the weekend, 4x4 legs, 2x4 frame, 3/4 mdf top with a 1/4 Masonite on top.

Now I need to build some storage shelves to organize this mess.

That's exactly what I did! After I bought the masonite I realized it was wavy and warped like crazy, my FIL said that I should have bought tempered masonite instead of untempered masonite? So when this one gets beat I will replace it with a flat one.

You can always do the white trash scrounge whatever you can find approach.:D I used glue-lam scraps to put this together with old bottom cabinets out of a local store that was remodeling. It looks like hell but it’s solid.

All you have to do is call it butcher block instead of glue-lam scraps and you're good to go :D
