i know we still have a while before the boats have to be put away for the winter but this is my first season owning a boat and would like to get a jump on anything i might need to but the boat to bed for a couple months. what do you guys do for the motor, fuel, batteries, all that stuff. i guess i will clean the boat really well and wax it, is there any other advice that will keep the boat close to ready when next summer shows up. thanks

Where is the boat stored? Indoor or outdoor?

Stabil (or other fuel treatment stuff) and full fuel tanks:thumbsup Be sure to run the boat and get treated fuel into the carbs as well...

i live in phoenix, so it's not like i have to worry about a whole bunch of freezing temps and will probably take the boat out a couple times during the winter at the river but i figured there might be some stuff to do for extended periods of the boat just sitting on the trailer in my shop. the boat will be indoors.

Pull the water passage plugs in the block and get as much of the water out of your motor as possible. Also try to drain anything/everything that is sitting in the exhaust system. Some exhaust systems have petcocks in them so you can just open them. If not, crack your lines and let the water flow out of them.

I just did my boat last week.I first run it on the hose and warm it up real good, then just before shutting it off spray some fogging oil down the carb while at a fast idle for three or four seconds. This coats your intake manifold and upper cylinder walls. After that I open the block drains and bottom water feed lines from the exhaust manifolds.Last I pull out the spark plugs and squirt fogging oil into each cylinder.Disconnect the coil and crank it over a couple of turns.Clean and inpect your plugs and reinstall them and your done.Always use the Sta-bil ,the stuff really works.I also use Marvel mystery oil in my fuel,it will help keep your fuel pump and gaskets happy.

DCM's right; drain the block (nd anything else for that matter). The crap that collects will downright scare you, especially if you are using an iron block. One last tidbit to add to the others: If you don't have the capability to crank it over periodically during the down months, undo the rocker arms & release the tension on the valve springs.
Hope it helps

well, not sure if this is a great idea or not, but it seems to have worked awsome for me this last year.

i filled a bucket with anti freeze, ran a hose from the water pickup on the plate, and fired it up for a few secounds. then i used a small hand pump and ran anti freeze through the intercooler, oil cooler, v drive & trans cooler. then let her sleep. pulled some things apart to do some maint, before the season, and it all looks great... no more white crap in the an fittings and aluminum parts. fired it up and its ready to roll.

anyone see any big problems with doing this?

I do the same same w/my turbo motor Nelson. It's a PITA but well worth the time it takes. My intercooler radiator stays quite clean. Besides, it's kinda cool when you first light it and folks think all that red stuff is rust...
