Because you're doing something wrong. I have two networked laptops and the rest of my network is XP. I can print from both laptops no problems. Plus, I take one of those laptops to work with me and I can print on both printers there as well, all computers are XP.

Yes, I guess I only implied that. Both laptops are brand new, both running Vista Business Professional or something like that. Networking with Vista is exactly the same as XP.

Can you see the networked printer?

Yeah, you've got a setting or something going on. I had one computer (XP) that I had similar problems with. I never did get it going properly. In fact, I'm using it right now and it works fine now, but only after I did a complete reinstall of XP after a hard drive crash. Have you tried googling you exact error message?

Question? You are on the correct network right?

Get yourself a really big hammer...

It will work right the 1st time, or never again. :D

Might want to check your security settings on the network, one might not like vista for some reason.( it is Microshaft we are talking about here... heaven forbid something new works with something old.)

I'm also having a problem with my new computer with Vista. I got a new video cam that shoots AVI video. Well when I load in on my computer and try to play it in windows media player I get video but no sound. But it will play in Quicktime with the sound. So I loaded it on my g/f's computer which is XP and it plays fine in her Windows Media Center. Go figure.

+1 on the same problem. 4 computers in the house, all on a network. 3 on XP and they print fine, can't get the one with Vista to work and am going with a standalone printer.

Vista blows, but I know someday, we'll have to change :swear

I know this sounds rudimentary, but did you guys check to make sure that you have the Vista printer drivers loaded on your Vista machines? Even if the printer is properly installed on another network computer, you still need the correct print drivers installed in the machine you're printing from.

Also...

Did you enable sharing on the host printer?

Are all your computers on the same workgroup? Windows XP's default workgroup name is WORKGROUP...not sure what it is on Vista.

If they're all on the same workgroup, you should be able to go into My Network Places and see all the computers on the network.

Vista isn't bad. Its just a little different. It'll be a while before all the bugs are worked out in it. Plus a lot of updates and downloads out there aren't Vista compatible yet. Other than that I like my Vista.

Why can't a corp like Microsoft with all it's geeks make the whole thing just plug and play. Networking 2 brand new laptops & desktop along with a 2yr old xp desk top. It was all working, printing, interneting and then the printing stopped I have been on the phone will dell's tech support for multiple hours and multiple sessions. They can't fix it.

I Want my $ back from Dell:swear
Then I'll get a Mac

If all my crap wasn't already PC, I'd get a mac too.
When the day arrives that I have to switch to Vista, I may just make the switch.
The Dell I am on now has been FUBAR since day one, but my little HP laptop has been unstoppable. It is the only thing that makes changing even a question mark.
