People like me? What is that supposed to mean?
People like you who question authority, It seems pretty simple if you don't want to be "one of those people" just do what ever they say and all will be good in the world:rolleyes
It doesn't seem to matter how many different personal encounters are shared on how people were mistreated by a cop. They will almost always side with their own. There is always more to the story. We must have done something to deserve the attitude we received.

So quit being a pussy and ask them. But you rather act like a tough guy behind a keyboard.
8 post? talk about acting like a tough guy.....Are you a cop?

This is interesting advice.

Too many computers and radios running to shut the car down for an extended period of time.

It's important to have everything up and running in the cars. To put it into perspective, say you get a 911 phone call and aren't familiar with the area. With the computer on you have maps and can see the location of your partners.

What happens if you get into the car and can't find your way to a location where someone is in desperate need of your help, because your system is down?
Not good.

I wish people would do a little research before bashing law enforcement on things they know nothing about.
Like Voodoo said. Why don't some people try doing a ride along.

Not trying to stir the pot. But your taxes really don't mean shit as your pay comes from taxes.

Well I guess you would also have the opinion that Police Officers should pay no tax I guess..... since they don't mean shit. Thanks buddy, I could use the pay raise.

I actually build Police cars for a living. Most agencies have a timer system that keeps the electronics running for a preset amount of time after the key is off. Every K9 build we do comes with a fan and thermostat that alerts the LEO when the temp inside the cage reaches a certain temp. Depending on the car and agency most cars are timed between 30 minutes to 2 hours or more on the timer depending on the use of the car (undercover vs. traffic etc.) I am more inclined to think AC is a big part of keeping the cars running.

Uhhh Nope Mr. C. I answered his question before he asked it because these threads always go the same way. Maybe you missed it, so here you go.

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself... "Should I really criticize something I know nothing about?"

NGE is the perfect example of the "Y" generation. Why this, Why that, Why now, Why not me, Why can't I, etc.......

There is a big difference in asking questions to learn about something, and criticizing things without knowing anything about it. Not to drag Dave into this argument, but he was a perfect example not too long ago regarding how and when police can search vehicle and or people. Super critical and opinionated about something while admittedly lacking actual knowledge on the subject matter.

This thread is merely just another example of that. And I'm just about positive regardless of whatever reason given, he's not going to approve. So what's the point unless we all just want to post back and forth for a bit?

Exactly, instead lets wonder why all the Lapd cars park in the red zone in front of Starbucks in downtown LA on Central. They park in the red zone, blocking the left lane causing a traffic jam because everyone else has to merge. I don't know if the cars are running or not, but there is a parking lot. If it's in case you might get a call and have to leave in a hurry maybe they shouldn' be hanging out in Starbucks LOL

And this "Y" generation is the exact kind you don't want....Don't question me, I have a badge and a gun, I told you what to do now do it. Sorry, but you can put me in the "Y' generation with him.

No reason to go back and forth, You won't change my opinions and I certainly won't change yours.

You asked if unoccupied idling police cars is part of your public safety. I responded YES. Question answered.

You forget I talk to people like you all day long.

you know as I sit here and watch as everyone goes back and forth I start to wonder why I even keep reading. I want so badly to comment on things that are said but I tend to just keep my mouth shut. Then I come across this post that I quoted above....

t&y in my opinion without knowing you personally. Its LEO's like yourself that make people question our officers. Comments like "you forget I talk to people like you all day long" that is a completely unfair and wrong comment. Is this the way you act toward people who have questions? Is it because he is questioning law enforcement that you get so defensive?

My question is why does law enforcement automatically go into defensive mode when asked simple questions??

Im questioned by people everyday at work... I chose to answer these question to the best of my knowledge and as politely as possible..... Perhaps you believe you have more power than "PEOPLE LIKE US" ? There for we do not deserve to be treated with respect when posing a question because in your eyes we are smaller than you? Because you feel we are attacking you?

Just playing devil's advocate here...but how is this different from the arguments made in Ferguson (minus the rioting, of course)?

My encounters have never turned into a racial incident, and I have never tried to make them one. that's a huge difference imho

Wait a second on just this highlighted point.

I share the same opinions as RD on the search and seizures. (I think)

His point was more about how the current system is a bunch of B.S. and an infringement upon our constitutional rights. (4th amendment) The law as it has evolved over the years has given the police too much power in this area as a result of certain court cases. Also there is WAY too much grey area. Now of course this is not your problem since you don't make the laws just enforce what is on the books. (I realize you have a job to do)

But getting to your point, say a "questionable search" (i.e. grey area) occurred on someone like me who opposes such things on principle and has the $$ to hire GOOD lawyers to make a point. I would imagine the outcome would be different if the lawyer's motion to supress the evidence is granted. :D:p

I also realize that you use this against gang bangers and such (good ) so this is really a double edge sword.

This is just our opinions on the matter. Take it or leave it. We would just like to see some change in the laws. (But until then I will leave the contraband at home :D ;))

Now the rest of this thread is stupid so I won't participate in the rest. :D:p

Feel free to go to the political section and see T&Y as he really is. Here is an example of his true core as a LEO.

"My free will says I'm coming over to your place and taking all your shit. You don't believe you have a right to stop me from imposing my free will. Sweet.. this should go real smooth."

You nailed it on the head.

I said nothing about parking on red curbs. To each their own. There are law enforcement officers who have no place being in that line of work and do things they shouldn't just like any job. You don't get a break for lunch in law enforcement your always on call. Again not justifying illegal parking.

This thread has gone completely off topic haha

You assume I'm in defensive mode because that is the inflection you are placing on my words without really knowing.

Ok, so lets say you work with a guy who's opinions on underwater basket weaving are completely different than yours. You have gone round and round on how your technique of weaving is done this way because _____________________ and his technique of weaving is done this way because _______________________. No matter how you explain it to him, you never come to an agreement. You've had this discussion over and over and over and over... So one day you decide, not going to waste my time explaining it to him. He brings it up one day and asks if _________________ is part of how you basket weave and you say.. "Yes." Is that really so bad?

Should I assume then that YOU are the reason why people question underwater basket weavers? Is that the way you talk to everyone who has questions about underwater basket weaving?

Warrantless searches are always a point of contention in any court case. Dave said he didn't think we could search a vehicle at all without a warrant, I said we could and gave numerous examples and reasons. He was going to contact an attorney friend to confirm if it was even possible. We are expecting the results in two weeks.:skull

...When they aren't in them?

I pulled up to Chipotle last night and parked next to two unoccupied police cars running in the parking lot. When I walked into Chipotle, there were 3 officers sitting at the table enjoying their "lunch".

I am sure there must be some logical explanation for LEO's leaving police cars running while they eat. So could someone here enlighten me?

I'm no LEO but, I play one on TV....Actually, I let em run all winter long!!:D I like a warm truck/car when I get in.

Yes, I hope he goes to the political section and see's who I really am. I hope he pays real close attention to where I say You Absolutely Have A Right to Protect Youself from illegal seizures and or protecting yourself from people who are simple imposing their free will.

And just so he can find it easily, it's on the second page of the Proposition 47 thread when I am trying to explain how a persons choices in life actually do affect those around them. And that those around them don't have to take it lying down like you apparently chose to do.

Police, ambulances, fire/rescue should NEVER use a drive through......you can get trapped in there. Remember, they are always on call. You want the unit trapped in the In and Out Burger drive through lane when you baby is not breathing, your father is having a heart attack or someone is breaking into your home and you wife is all alone?

I don't get you guys that are against emergency service workers being prepared to immediately respond to an emergency.

Who is against it?

Not against it, just can't except why we park along the curb occasionally. Ask yourself this: You or your loved one needs police at their location NOW... whatever reason, being robbed, someone is trying to break into your house, someone is chasing you... just pick. i'm the cop responding. Do you want me to be able to exit a restaurant, 7-11, or Starbucks, jump in my car and go? Or do you want me to exit a restaurant, 7-11, or Starbucks, and take the extra 30 seconds or minutes it will take to get to a car if I'm running when it's parked in the parking lot instead of along the curb right outside the door?

I'm not saying it should be the norm for every police car or firetruck out there.. and honestly there is zero reason why parking enforcement or any other non first responders (exclusion to Bomb, SWAT vehicles) should be parking in a red zone to begin with let alone to get a cup of coffee... But there are reasons it's done and it's not just because we all think we are superior to everyone.

Since my cousin is RCMP they have a bigger patrol area over most agencies. They are like a state patrol along with being a cities only police force, so they can get pretty spread out. Her detachment serves 3 small towns and two Indian reservations. Regardless of which area they are in the target emergency response time is 3 minutes. Parking in a stall, starting the car, etc. can add to that time.

Shouldn't an LEO be familiar with a city before he is employed to serve one?

No but since you guys are always on call, pack a lunch and thermos and stay in your car so you can respond faster to my emergency. I'm paying you to be there when I need you, not inside a restaurant or 7-11 leaning on the counter hitting on the checkout girl. LOL

The "Y generation"? Hmm.. Seems like human beings have been questions everything since the beginning of their existence, it's how we evolve. You must be part of the totalitarian group of society where everyone has to just shut up and do what you say.:rolleyes

Hmm. You should re-read the thread. I never criticized. I asked a question only which you couldn't answer. Luckily there are some people here that have the mental capacity to understand a general question and did.

Man I tried giving you the benefit if the doubt and you still act like a jerk. What is your problem man? Would you put your badge number under these posts?

Exactly, instead lets wonder why all the Lapd cars park in the red zone in front of Starbucks in downtown LA on Central. They park in the red zone, blocking the left lane causing a traffic jam because everyone else has to merge. I don't know if the cars are running or not, but there is a parking lot. If it's in case you might get a call and have to leave in a hurry maybe they shouldn' be hanging out in Starbucks LOL

Seriously! This happens all the time at one of the busiest shopping centers near my house.

And this "Y" generation is the exact kind you don't want....Don't question me, I have a badge and a gun, I told you what to do now do it. Sorry, but you can put me in the "Y' generation with him.

No reason to go back and forth, You won't change my opinions and I certainly won't change yours.

Yep. I'd have to say that based on his attitude towards myself and other, T&Y is a narrow minded cop on a serious power trip.

you know as I sit here and watch as everyone goes back and forth I start to wonder why I even keep reading.

I am glad someone else is picking up on this!

No but since you guys are always on call, pack a lunch and thermos and stay in your car so you can respond faster to my emergency. I'm paying you to be there when I need you, not inside a restaurant or 7-11 leaning on the counter hitting on the checkout girl. LOL

Amen!

I keep a cooler and snacks in my truck everyday so that I don't have to waste time and money. Obviously my own time and money as I am running my own business, therefore I must be wise with how my time and money is spent while working.

What a disgusting individual and in my opinion a disgrace to all of the good cops out there.

Come on now. I imagine you are ribbing T&Y, because you can't be serious. Can you?

C-mon :wink

Ok just checkin.

I don't think T&Y is one of "those guys" out there, as we do have a couple on this board.

So I was just making sure your post was in context.
