Kinda surprising but not really. We have 3 stand alone within a quarter mile of each other. All in prime locations.

Several years ago, a guy I knew who managed a mattress store told me some company came in and bought almost every area mattress store, regardless of brand. Sleep Train, Ortho, independents, didn't matter they bought them all, including the one he'd managed, which closed shortly thereafter. Win win, unless you bought at Jeromes, Ashley or Costco, you were putting money in his pocket.

There is one on the outskirts of the parking lot of the Havasu Walmart, I forget the name, the chain is all over the place. Nobody is ever in there, just one car in the parking lot of the employee, all the lights on, empty. How long can that add up financially or is the raping on a mattress or two sold a day enough to cover costs?

I wonder how that place stays open every time I drive by.

Just drove my, Mattress Firm, nobody there. Maybe its somebody's big loss leader they use to offset profits on their other businesses.

They make a killing on markup then finance kickbacks. Did some reading on them a few years ago. I've still always thought its a money laundering operation...they are fucking everywhere.

Times have definitely changed in car buying. I am old school, and I kind of like the games played and the grinding process, it kind of amuses me since I grew up around the industry, my dad was 50% owner of a dealership growing up, and I am pretty familiar with the game.

So my wife goes to the Brea Mall one day for other reasons, stops at the Tesla store in the mall and they have her take one for a spin, no salesman in the car, she's being tracked by Tesla basically and they can shut off the car if she decides to steal it. She likes it and wants one, but cant buy one at the dealer, you go home, build the car the way you want and give them $100 to order it. 6 weeks later it arrives at the "distribution center" in Scottsdale, the nearest one to us. Had we lived closer they would have delivered it to the house. She does all of the paperwork on line and they draft the money from your bank account. From there she downloads the app for her phone and she starts watching tutorials on how everything works. Tesla emails her what numbered spot her car is in and you set a time to get it. We arrive in Scottsdale go to the center and there it is, sitting in the numbered spot. There is red folder on the seat, she signs a few more things and drops the folder in a marked box on the building. She starts the car with her phone and off she goes. No humans involved at all.

Different but it works, probably another 100 cars there at the distribution center and people taking them home left and right.

What model did your better half end up getting? Curious if you've been able to make the journey across the desert non-stop without recharging?

Its the new long range dual motor model C. She is on her way now to work in OC, she stopped in Needles since she didnt get a full charge at home since they installed the super charger in our garage about an hour ago. The supercharger in Needles charges at 434 miles in an hour, so she is just going to stop there for 15 minutes and top off.

Optimally it has 375 miles of range on a full charge, computer says it will make it but a bubble pops up that it wont make it if she goes more than 75 mph. She always stops at Barstow Del Taco anyway so she can add 100 miles while she eats.

We drove my wife’s Model 3 to Phoenix and stopped once at some Superchargers right by the 10 off ramp and ate lunch while it charged. No one there and like 15 chargers empty. 30 minutes and cost 18.00. You just plug it in, it knows the car and your account when you plug it in. Tells you the cost on your screen then just debits your account. It also tells you how many chargers are open everywhere on the screen

I’ve done several river trips in our Long Range Model Y, OC to Needles. We stop in Barstow and charge both directions. I have a 50amp circuit at the river house so I can charge at 32mph there with the mobile charger and the 14-50 adapter. Also did a quick trip to Fresno up hwy 99 and had supercharging the whole way. Vegas is also a breeze with one stop along the way for charging. You do have to watch your speed, terrain and wind conditions a bit but the car will tell you if your cutting it close and to slow down to make it to your charging location.

Found the woopie cushion feature last night. Great thing to do to guests before they get in the car. You pick which seat, the type of fart you want and then when the person sits in that seat the fart goes off in the surround sound.

exactly how Ive bought my last few rides.

Butttt. I helped my 19 year cousin buy his 1st car this weekend. No cosigner, ghost credit, but good job and a decent down payment.

It was a dam nightmare, we dealt with Moss bros in san bernardino and there are shady as hell. Turned a 12k car into a 17k with all there crap. GM said it's like a hotel, we don't advertise the resort fees... Then the new Car xchange dealer. Little more upfront but still a joke with the extras.

Then we hit carmax. Carmax was awesome! Good price, transparent, approved him with a decent first time rate and pretty quick.

Yup got the wife’s X5 there a few years ago. Best car buying process ever.

Let us know.
Ours isn’t the performance but it’s the dual motor AWD. Just a few clicks slower than the performance.
Amazing how quick it is. 😁
Ridiculously quick and effortless. No heat soak, no spinning, just launching. I enjoy driving my wife’s more than i thought. If Ludicrous mode wasn’t so expensive I’d pull the trigger.

I really thought my wife drove her Audi like a bat outta hell. Now with her behind the wheel of her Model 3 it’s just another level of craziness. That’s one quick car

Did you pay the $2k to get it to 3.7 0-60? I’m always so damn tempted to hit that buy button.

Am I the only one that thinks the front of the Model 3 looks like a boat? Maybe an amphibious car?
It needs old school Dakar Rally lights. Like the Rockers in London put on their Vespas or anything to bust up the Disneyland Autopia look.

Cars, beds, solar, hvac, roofs... any large ticket item is a pain in the ass when it comes to getting a straight deal.

Tesla ain't the only game in town for much longer, Ford, Audi, VW... pretty soon EV's will be available everywhere.

I think the nose on all Teslas look they designed the car from the rear bumper towards the front and they ran out of " Creative Gas" by the time they arrived at the nose and front bumper. I can't imagine a more uninspired design, like looking at a featureless face. If asked "What do you see when you view the car from the front ? "
Mean, happy, energy, aggressive, romantic, exotic, wealth ? No, I don't feel anything, basically it conveys nothing at all.

Battery heat soak is ( Or was) certainly a problem if you're attempting to run laps on a race track, or repetitive acceleration launches. At least according to the various mags who were trying to do comparison testing against gas cars.

WELLLL.... if you are trying to reduce drag, that is kind of how its done. Just a thought.

That's like trying to convince yourself that you should marry the Butt Ugly girl because it's what's inside that counts. There's a whole lot of really cool looking cars with amazing aerodynamics that don't look like the designer got fired the morning of the day he was supposed to design the nose.

I know that is not criticism of me (i cannot change my natural engineer or keep it from speaking...dang me).

I agree, they probably could have done better. Maybe it was cost related? IDK. MAYBE there is an aftermarket opportunity there...???

what's your impression of the Model X?

FWIW, the roadster (original and the new one coming) were very stylish, but Tesla cannot take credit for what Lotus did. Still, the new one is nice.

It's a thing between me and Tesla 😁 I like the model 3, think how I'd bang that bitch, then it turns towards me, as if it heard me and I gasp 😲--- NO WAY BABY 😂
I think both the old and new Roadster look great, and I'm in lust over the looks of the Lotus Evora, so there's that.
It's not just Tesla, seems designers are just not sure what to do with the front end of EV's in general. That new Mustang Mach-E, is slightly better, but only because they put something on it.
I do like the nose on the Porsche Taycan, so a good looking EV face isn't impossible. 😁

MAYBE improve aero by incorporating a bypass from front to back...put more styling and open grillework PLUS augment the Cdrag

They (Well somebody) certainly did a nice job on the Roadster nose, very similar to the Porsche Taycan, I'd take either one. 👍

i used to think the look of Tesla’s was a bit plane but it has grown on me and the front is only one view of the car. I think Tesla’s have great lines.

The thing that stands out to me after owning our Y for a few months is how archaic gas cars look to me now, even brand new cars. Lol...The thought wouldn’t even occur to me to buy a gas car if i was in the market for a car or small SUV now.

i think it takes people a while to wrap their head around owning a Tesla. Most people’s initial reaction is to find something wrong with it and say why they wouldn’t buy one. I was that guy. It took me about year to get it but then the “ah ya!” moment came, and now after owning one....well you saw my comment above.

Took this pic on our way back from the river in February after we just got it. We popped it’s cherry (first river trip) within a few days of getting it.

True, but most of us here prefer to reduce our carbon footprint

Wife let me drive hers for the first time yesterday, takes a bit getting used to with the on off switch throttle, I was pretty jerky with it, just takes some practice since it’s instant on basically. Never owned a car that will slam me back in the seat like this thing. My wife is going through juice like crazy but she doesn’t care, she’s on the pipe, or cord I should say all the time in the thing.
