Sub'd, I was just looking at them an hour ago at home depot and came home to do some research before committing.

I'd like to find a efficient, affordable way to get the calcium out of our water.

I use 2 simple whole house filters.
One is outside and filters everything from the irrigation to the house to the pool
2nd one is inside before going into the house and RO system
Saves replacing filters in RO
I buy cases of these 1 micron sediment filters when they are on sale for $37. No noticeable loss in water pressure.
Amazing how much crap they trap after just one month.

I have a whole house water system by Water Boy. There are other similar/same systems out there. But this greatly improved the water taste, my fridge filter can go 3 times as longer before changing. I see very little calcium on the faucet and shower heads. This is not a soft water system, but it does reduce the hard water spots on the shower & faucets. Also I put a new water heater in at the same time as the whole house filter system, and I’ve notice allot less sediment in the water heater when I drained it.

The only thing that is different about these chamber tank filters is they do a weekly backflush to clean the filters and make them last longer. It’s suggested to tie the backflush into your plants, so not to waste the water, but in my case that was not an option, so my flush just goes down a drain.

Also something to think about is your outside hose bibs. If they are on the side of the house, then your hose bib water is going through your filter. I don’t use the two hose bibs on the walls of the houses because of this. But I did run multiple hose bibs off the irrigation line, which is before the water comes into the house.

Depending on the size of system you get the filter tank can last 7-10 years before needing to be changed. I chose to go one size bigger then what was spec’ed for my size home, number of people in the home and past water usage. It was not a whole lot more money, but in theory the filter should last much longer.

I put this system in 5 years ago and has been working well. Easy to plumb yourself. I just replaced the medium in the tanks too. Also DIY.

put something similar in my house.......a BIG ass carbon filter. chlorine is the number one thing you want to get rid of for taste anyways. these aren't cheap but yu wont be buying filters all the time and this is big enough for the whole house, and has other benefits

We plumbed this to our water in Parker since the water company warned users about the fact that they do not remove viruses from the drinking water and not to drink it if immune compromise…no shit.

It’s a robust filter. https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/v100825082/ Or https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/b5005118087/

I was great, since then we added it to our home fridge and a separate ice maker and it taste as good if not better than our RO water. I’ll ditch the RO soon and just run this as it’s easy to change twice a year.

My wife will only drink out of our Royal Berkey with fluoride filters. Loves it. It’s great for natural disasters as well.
We have the royal as well and even take it in the trailer. Works well for the pirate cove camping water. I did think my wife was nuts for getting it, but had to eat my words.

I run this on my commercial ice maker, probably wouldn’t run a whole house though

We have the Water Boy system as well and it seems to work great. It backflushes itself and no maintenance. We've probably had ours for 7 or 8 years now. Had them out last year to test everything & all is still good.
