I've seen this gong show first hand before. Con artists excel in this industry for some reason. I to this day am still trying to rap my head around how huge type A personalities that are inept at best at any form of business sense can dupe people much more intelligent and financially successful than them in to handing over large sums of money to people that have a track history of screwing people out of money.

I was really young when I saw this happen, but at the time was astounded at how easy one personality that was full of bullshit could convince upstanding people to hand over money with no little questioning.
