Besides the well known shops (Mercury, Teague, etc.) what other builders have members used and had great results with? Just looking to get some insight on shops that build/rebuild quality engines for boats.

B&G Racing Engines in Yucaipa, Corey Hallburg and his father are avid boaters/racers and honest as the day is long, first class shop.

Where are you located, and what kind of build?
obnoxious001 - Barry here on the boards is the first that comes to mind, assuming you know all of the big guys... Gordy @ Pfaff, Alexi @ Boostpower, etc...

Can't go wrong with one of Barry's motors. See Obnoxious001 on the boards here. I met him years ago when he built me an 800hP Whipple S.C. motor for the boat. we've been good friends ever since.

Tony does great work! He built the powerhouse the the P550. If ya hadnt seen it yet its pretty bitchen! My dream team of boat builders would be teaming up Wolfie for the hull and hardware and Tim stokes for the motor!

So if you have a specific engine, Mercury, Teague, etc. would you only recommend going to these builders for rebuilds? In other words, do they have their own setups unique to their engines where you would get better performance/reliability?

My buddy builds motor for street racing and boats on the side. I asked him one time if this is the correct way to setup this motor and he said "if you ask 10 engine builders how to build the same motor all 10 will have their own way of doing it". He also said all 10 ways will probably work to. Lol

A lot of great names in here. My last 3 engines were from me, Paul Grichar and the last one Pfaff. My next one will be from Barry Obler hopefully.

Ain't that the truth. My dad and I have built all my engines with good success. If I were to have an engine built it would be Barry or Alexi.

I don't have a boat with a car motor, but my buddy Tim used Brian @ B&D Marine (a RDP contributor) to fix some problems that plagued him for a few years...he went from tearing the motor down 2-3x per season to fix stuff to now it's been in the boat and running great for 4 seasons. 540 w/8-71 dual carb.

I have Lance do my stuff, he backs his work up, Havi local, and will follow up if any issues arise. There"s a reason he"s sought after bt IHBA/NJBA guys:thumbsup

Bucket Marine: Lance is Merc certified, was the lead tech for Eliminator when they had a repair shop in Havi

Clay Smith in Buena park does all my blueprinting and machining.

Bob Jeanblanc, recycle performance here on the boards, just finished a major rebuild on my Hallett Mini cruiser. BJ turned most of the wrenches, but he has Clay Smith do the machine work. I've had this boat since '89 when I bought it as a bare hull and had a crate LS-6 dropped in it. Back then the rigging was handled by Tom Papp. Well a few years back the pump was done, the motor was tired and I had just bought the Howard, so the Hallett was left in the back of the shop.

I keep planning a full write up on the work we did, but here are a couple pics of the motor.

I would seriously give BJ consideration on your next project, his attention to detail is clearly visible.

I've had Teague, GT, Larry Peto and Boostpower motors. Never had an issue with any of them.
