Went to our new little “hole in the wall” for b fast and the prior customer left a cash tip right down to exact change. I dont think I have had change in my pocket in years.

Who still buys meals and tips with cash?

I always tip the bartender in cash after my first round even when I open a tab.
If service is awesome, I will usually tip on the CC and leave a cash tip as well.

As a past B&F employee (HS and college), good service = great tips and part of it is always in cash.

Me too
Servers like cash better

Someone left exact change?
I don't have time to figure that out
I do 20% of total and round it up especially for our local spots
Unless something sucked

Old people
People that need to shed under the table cash.
People that are cheating and don’t want a record of the expense
People helping out a server by tipping in cash vs running through payroll.

…..a lot of reasons I guess but I plastic everything. $20 in my wallet will last me a couple months.

A little bit of both here.

A bar for round of drinks=cash
A bar bill to keep open=card
Hole in wall place=cash.
A nice sit down dinner=card.
Gas, mostly cash
Paying for services=card.

I’d agree with this.

When my boat sold the person paid in cash. It was a little more than a meal...

Everyone has reasons

I rarely burden my servers with cash.
They have to pool it and then split it up at most places.
If you want them to have that cash you’d better sneak it to them.

When I was a Kid my first 4 Jobs were at restaurants washing dishes and bussing tables pretty much everyone (wait staff ) made minimum wage $1.35 per hour but the Waitresses made bank on thier tips which went in their pockets ;)

They're supposed to lay down some for everyone in a decent place - they used to call it kiddie back in my day.
In other places the waitresses would lay out something at the end of a night if you worked it hard and kept them busy.
Other places no one but wait staff get tip - and thats rough for everyone.
Thats why I'll toss something to the cook and bus staff -

I have a debit card, but it's only used for fuel. I don't carry a credit card. I have no business reasons to right stuff off, so no advantage for me. Meals, tools, materials...greenbacks from the billfold. Old school, but works for my lifestyle.

I prefer to leave cash. The less that Uncle Sam knows about how much they got or how much I give away, the better for all concerned.

I always tip in cash if I can, because fuck taxes.

I pay cash whenever I can also when doing larger purchases or home improvements, because fuck taxes!
