06 Range Rover HSE…. Sometimes you get in and start it, all is well. Next time the rear is jacked up and the front stays down. Sometimes nothing fkn happens….. Well, today, after 3-4 attempts, it is stuck in the lowest position, kicks an air ride failure notification on the dash, and is stuck at 30mph….. Any suggestions?

It’s a Range Rover out of warranty. What did you expect? Can you hear the compressor kick on? And is it building pressure. First place to start.

Oh I’m well aware of what I have. I just need to limp it along another 40k or so.

Compressor at times seems to work, and others no, but there’s no rhyme nor reason on when it runs/dumps.

After further investigation (after a cocktail) it seems that the compressor is operating as it should. There is air leaking at the rear side of the front right, which is where the solenoid valve block is. At times there has been no air leaking sound come from there, and at times (thinking about it now when it’s doing weird shit) it sounds like there is a huge air leak there. I’m going to pull that out and clean the solenoids and see what happens.

Most of the time the air bags fail from age . Get some soapy water and spray everything . Go online and get a trouble tree diagram and follow it . I have a Ram with factory air and I love it .
When factory air is working, it’s great !

Ever since we got our RR it’s the only thing I launch with. Lower the bags, get under the trailer, raise the bags, hook the other shit up, gone. Same in reverse order when putting the boat away. Love it! No more effing with the jack for me. $70k (used) so I don’t have to twist a little handle for 10 seconds. Totally worth it! I guess I coulda got an electric jack, but come on, which is cooler?

Bosses RR did the same thing. After a looong trip to the dealership and I’m sure quite a bit of money he just traded it in on a new one. 🤣 Some guys just love these things regardless of how unreliable they are.

Yeah convert to springs or have the air ride system rebuilt which is like 4-5k+. I’d insist on just fixing the part of the system that is broke which is gonna cost the least amount and then dump it. My Range Rover they want 4k to fix a few oil leaks!

Reporting back here.

1- fuck I hate working on vehicles!

2- I got a little time to investigate and concluded that the right front bag had a hole in it and at times would hold air reasonably and at other times the crease it was in would shift and the gash would open up and down it would go and the compressor would just run until it over heated and would shut itself down. So, $169 for a re-pop on eBay, and about 2 hrs of my life (should have been an hour but one of the spindle bolts was seized, what a cunt) and it seems to go through all 3 level settings as it is supposed to.

Waiting on a couple replacement headlight lens and then I’ll stick those in and go for the first test drive.

Buy the air bag replacement kit, replaces the air system with good springs, then you never have that problem again. I've done it on 2 of mine in the past, super easy to do.
