You basically lose everything you own. Lol. Hence why we carry insurance with big coverages, especially on medical etc
That’s what I thought, making sure I wasn’t missing the logic lol

Wozencraft is another insurance option for high HP boats. They are a RDP advertiser, or was in the past.

I don't have a go fast boat, but I've got an Agreed value policy with Progressive with good liability limits and uninsured/underinsured boater coverage.

I can’t fathom why you wouldn’t carry ins. Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t CA boat owners still pay “luxury” tax on it. If anything, I think I’d want to get out from under that, prior to trying to shortchange insurance costs. Mines $300/yr and covers more than enough medical for all parties, $5k in personal, and roughly $8k over what I paid for my boat. Seems like a nobrainer imo.

One more reason to protect everything you own with a family trust.

...and yes, of course my boats and other vehicles are insured.

I currently don't have insurance. My old AAA policy dropped boats. Moved to Geico and they are working on a stated value policy for me but I'm having to jump through a bunch of hoops for that. Moved my motorcyles, golf cart and sxs to Safeco Liberty Mutual after I saw thats who Geico subed my house to and they said they would cover my boat until I gave them the info. Don't know why a tunnel hull Cheetah with an outboard is so tough. All I keep hearing is we don't cover that type of boat.
My DCB Eliminator isnt being used this season so it isn't insured either but feel I will get the same shitshow unless I go to some specialty company.

Trusts are good but if you cause an accident with negligence they can dig right into it and help themselves.

Liberty Mutual employee here, my understanding of SafeCo's underwriting for boats is that they don't touch cat's and don't do anything over 65mph.

Safeco wouldn't cover my Daytona, using foremost for the boat

Same here! Said he would call me back never did.

Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Same story with me..its amazing what a simple call back/email will do. Another RDP insurance member returned my call...and..well...thats who got my business.

Exactly...That is unless you have everything in a trust...However, If one does not see the value in boat insurance they likely have not taken steps to protect their assets.

ANPAC insured my Formula with twin blower motors, but it was 3800.00 per year with a 4 month layup and only in inland water ways. I had to call them when I went coastal or offshore and they never charged me any extra for it.

Insurance on a boat is a no brainier.
Like most have said why put everything you own at risk. Accidents are exactly that you can never predict when its going to happen.

For people who think they don't need it when they only use it 2 times a year, think about fire, theft, vandalism, and water damage, all this could happen while being stored.

If you need insurance or just have questions give me a call or text directly and I would be glad to help any fellow boater out.

We have programs that can insure just about anything performance boat related! 949-632-4500 Brad

our Malibu ski wake boat is insured through triple A.

most here, have never tried insuring 100mph 18/19' potato chips. with 700/800hp strapped in the back of them.
now when you do ? then call me and tell me who wants to insure you. and don't say your boat only has 450 hp and goes 60 and doesn't have headers o/t.
99% wont touch these boast with a 100' pole.
hence a huge retainer and umbrella and a trust.

Actually they aren't as hard to insure as you think they are.. When Stacy was writing insurance she insured several 1400 HP V-Drive Schiada's (legit coverage). Give Brad (post above yours) a call or give Andy a call. It's very possible.

You are correct on the 99% won't touch them.. Which is why we have the 1% advertising on RDP that will. :D

We went through Wozencraft for our little boat (Foremost), and will be using them again probably for the new one. Not having insurance is the dumbest thing ever.

Not having liability is crazy to me.

Exactly! I saved my money for my boats, trailers, water skis, all of the related equipment, and my dually, in a bank account that served as my “Boat Account.” This was due to my desire to “buy my own boat” back when I was in Jr. High years and spent a few holiday weekends at Lake Arrowhead with my cousins. My Dad had said many times he wanted to buy a boat, but that never worked out. I bought my boats and equipment with hard earned cash and determination. I happily recall taking my parents for rides on the lake, and my Dad skiing behind my boat. The memories of those great smiles and of the fun we shared together are priceless. Don’t finance your toys.

I carry it

I carry full coverage insurance for replacement value, as well as liability coverage too. You never know what may happen to you and yours or to others, your fault or someone else’s. Lawsuits, Attorney’s fees, Court Costs, Insurance costs raising, etc., it’s best that you cover your ass and assets as best you can.

I have full coverage as well, in other states I would be over insured but being in SoCal there is no such thing.

its not just a simple phone call for us. that run these water rods.
we just cant call your regular insurance agent.
it is easy to insure your enclosed engine 60/70 mph boat.

99.9 % will not insure 100mph, exposed engine, headers over the transom. bottom line.
even paying premium amounts of money. they don't touch these.

so do we sell them ?
50 years boating the same way. open engines , headers.

I agree insurance is a must, but pretty tough to get if nobody will insure you.
I’ve called everyone for insurance on my flatty.
Wozencraft, Nick Rose, Andy etc.

Two of the three above wouldn’t even return my call.

I’ll try Brad above as my last option.

The underwriters these days aren’t touching these things...

Safeco insured my Spectra 18 Jet boat, full coverage stated value. But they wanted pictures showing the engine cover and through hull exhaust. They also cover my boat trailer.

Gotta admit, thought Grads was trolling on this one. Didn’t realize how many people don’t have insurance or how tough it was for Hot Rods to get it.
Also surprised to hear some of the reviews on Andy. I called him at 8am on a Saturday and was covered in just hours. Never met him, i don’t know him, but his service was more than impressive.

That was kind of what I’m getting at. At what point do you say it’s not worth it. I pay $800 a year and I’ve been boating 4 times this year. So I’m paying $200 a pop to take the boat out.
sounds like you need to knock the sand out of your fur box and get to boating more, gotta get out of the kids pool(folsom) and tread on over to the deep end and stretch the legs on that formula.

My vehicles are all insured through the Automobile Club of Southern California. They insured my first boat, a Hondo 19’ with 454 Chevy power and jet, with a custom tandem trailer. Full coverages. Owned the boat for two years then purchased my Schiada 21’ V-drive with acustom trailer. Added the Schiada and trailer to my boat policy, and when the Hondo was sold a two months later, that line item was then deleted from my boat policy. Yes, my annual boat insurance policy is not “Cheap” but, I have excellent coverage that fits our needs. We have never had to make any claims over the many years with AAA.

So what is everyone's Boating Liability amounts? Mine are capped through Boat US at 500k liability and 50k per person medical each. Which seems low?

I can't speak for how BoatUS policies work, but it sounds like you have 500k in liability which will cover medical expenses for someone you may hit, or to replace a boat you may hit. The 50k per person in medical sounds like it is for the occupants of your boat if you are involved in an accident and is designed to cover the deductible on your health insurance. Again, I don't sell BoatUS so I may be way off on that.

Andy wouldn't give me the time of day after i was ready to switch everything over
Not sure why he's recommended or even mentioned here
There's better out there

I didn't enjoy my dealings with him either. I've given him a shot on 2 boats...Each time he told me they were worth 15-20k less than they were and the premium was higher than every other quote.

I actually had a hard time getting 500k liability through a couple of the listed insurers on a 650hp 45k 210.

42 years old boating since birth with never a car/boat blemish.

The only person that could do 500k was Eric Lopez at Allstate.

All the other quotes were capped at 100k. I wasn’t even shopping price just wanted the coverage on a 85 mph boat and it was a struggle.... I can’t imagine what some of the new 120mph cats go for or how they insure them.

lucky you . AA of so cal wont touch neither the Cole or Cp. there exact words ." NO WAY are we going to insure those" kind of the same line I get from everyone. the Malibu no problem.
but hey ! you can by a new see do, that runs over 70 and sign on dotted line . if your a first time boater.

I just try to be where there is no one most of the time. with the 2 hot rods.
my boating practices are .
super defensive driving. but definitely like to haul ass at given times
never weekends
June/July never Parker. we head south to Blythe. or north to delta.
might see 1 or 2 boats most of the time during the week.
Back to Parker middle of August until the following June. lol
never holidays, exc. maybe thanksgiving at parker.

It all depends what you have and what YOU think it's worth, If James built you a motor you already know trying to go fast isn't cheap - Same applies to the coverage, triple check your policies to make sure your "affordable" coverage is actually covering you for what you are doing on the water.

he built me a V8 for a dune jeep so not water related. But the first red flag was "21 daytona - 300 mercury promax - 90mph". she said..there is no way you are going 90 mph with a 300HP engine.

had to explain this wasnt a jet boat. haha maybe they just dont know outboards? but i did compare my current policy and everything was matched up? oh well. still good people regardless and she insures a ton of lower river guys so i know her work is great.
